View Full Version : Magick in Slimelight

Hi everyone,

I visited Slimelight for the first time on Saturday night and found it a very powerful place. The colors were so strong! Has anyone tried to tap into this power? Do they let you? I have a spell for this and would like to try on saturday, but will i be allowed? i'm flying back to Atlanta on Tuesday, so i won't have another chance.

hm you might want to bite into some glowsticks, for those are the only colours there... ok, the neonstuff as well ;)

(and who should prevent you from tapping into the power there?)

Are you sure that's not 'Atlantis' you're flying back to??? I dunno if you've come across a calendar recently but the dark-ages are actually over, we have a thing called science nowadays and Magick spells have been kind of abandoned due to their 100%record of not working....ever.
Having said that, I don't see any harm in a bit of spell-casting providing you don't have to ravish any virgins, behead any goats or do anything that involves chalk, fire, blood or....well anything more intrusive than reading the latest Harry Potter novel really. I'll have to check with the owners though as apparently the building lies on the convergence of a number of ley lines and an old pagan burial ground so you might screw up the natural resonance of the....erm....karma!?

Let the poor child believe whatever the hell she wants. We have the choice to ignore her.
Note to Silver Dark: Sometimes religion is a very personal thing, and you open yourself up to criticism if you expect others to understand your ideas. Keep eating the happy stuff.

Oh! Is it a girl??! In that case I take it all back, don't want to risk offence. It's just I thought it was a Wizard writing that, and I hate Wizards, always leaving magical buckets clogging the place up and stuff.
Annnnnd....'poor child', hmmm. Seems that could be interpreted as a tad patronising, unless you're at least 70 years old....and live in a cottage in the forest.
'We have the choice to ignore her'...I'd never DREAM of ignoring someone who can provide material like this!
"Sometimes religion is a very personal thing"....hang about! What's personal about it??? Either your god exists or it doesn't and in the case of anyone who believes in a god.... IT DOESN'T. Trees aren't personal are they, and they exist, I've seen one. Ducks, there's another thing that's not personal, and I've even fed one or two of those. God's and magical powers! Hmmm, bit trickier that one. Try substituting the word 'personal' for 'misguided' and I think you may be on to something.
And I have no idea how to respond to your final crude allusion to what I can only imagine is fellatio other than to say 'behave you naughty little minx you'

With a pinch of salt, Silver_Dark (Hey, are we related?! LOL)

If you're into a faith like magic, you must be used to getting mixed opinions? That's what you just got.

Do your thing, what people think doesn't really matter - as long as it's unobtrusive, I'm sure no-one will care (and Fad's said as much, in his tongue-in-cheek way ;))

Fad!

I would have thought someone as liberal and intelligent as you would appreciate the need for tolerence and acceptance of others especially within our own community.

Whatever happened to: "I remember when goths used to look out for each other, not fight amongst themselves- we've got enough antagonism from the rest of society not to attack our own kind?"
Or don't you remember saying that?

Y'know looking down upon or mocking people for their spiritual or relgous beliefs isn't so far from the facism you're so critical of.

But far be it for me to advise you, after all, anything anyone my sort of age says is automatically unrespectable rubbish isn't it.

fad

"anything anyone my sort of age says is automatically unrespectable rubbish isn't it."
Absolutely! But if I'm ever looking for advice on what flavour of 'lowwy-pwop' is big in the school yard this week or how to get those irritating staples out of Justin Timberlake's navel be sure someone of your age will be my first port of call.
And on another serious note, while people are dicking around figuring out the best way to cast a glamour over that boy they fancy or the correct way to swing an incense burner they seem to miss out on the basic attributes of being a decent human being. Religion is an excuse for insecure individuals to be controlled by power-hungry institutions on the promise of a non-existent reward system. This magic/mysticism drivel is the same thing.
The last time I had the misfortune to hear about the 'tappable energy' in the club it was from an individual who turned out to be utterly lacking any moral code or shred of decency whatsoever. If someone thinks there's a shortcut to a happy existence through some unprovable spell or prayer it avoids them having to treat others in a civilised way or take responsibility for their own actions. (Does that boy not like me because I cast the wrong spell or is it because I'm a complete cunt?? Must be the spell, I'll try a different one.) It's all a distraction. It's an emotional crutch for those who also claim that only 'religion' has the insight to create a moral frame-work by which to live. Fuck your religions, and make no mistake, this is just another made-up belief system identical to all the others at the very end. It was invented to control you. Liberate yourselves and concentrate on what's really going on in your head. That's where your gods and magick exist.

Oh, and of course Hitler was big in to his black-magic rituals, same reasoning, he saw it as a short-cut to power, free of any moral obligation to decent human behaviour. Facism and mysticism (think Wagner) aren't an awful long way apart.

And I don't look down on people, I look down upon sheep.

SILVER_DARK-

You have a p/m.

FAD-

I wasn't sure who was going to do it first, I think you beat me on a technicality, but inevitably one of us was going to play the Hitler card, Argumentum ad Nazium.

This form of guilt by assosiation criticizes an argument by linking it in some way to Hitler or Nazism.

Naturally no one wants to be associated with Nazism because it has been so thoroughly discredited in both theory and practice. This argument is however completely and logically fallacious: Yes; Hitler believed in magic/spirituality, he was also a vegetarian. This doesn't discredit vegetarianism or magic any more than the fact that he didn't smoke discredits not smoking.

My argument with you is not whether religion is right or wrong, in fact I agree that blind faith and extreme zealotry are responsible some of the most harmful/damaging things we as humans do to each other. Instead I put it to you that evangelism and zealotry are wrong.

And I put it to you that by presenting such a hostile attitude to religious/spiritual people and so fervantly preaching your belief in atheism you yourself are guilty of blind faith and evangelical zealotry. Isn't the hypocrisy obvious? My own personal views aside, no one can affirmatively prove anything. The existance of a supreme being/supernatural power is no more provable for a religious person than the non-existance of god is provable for an atheist.

If it was actually provable either way, it would be big news by now. News that would change the world permenantly.

So, as we don't know for certain let's not aggressively shove our beliefs down each other's throats. This is not a right/wrong issue.

Here Fad, you are judging/stereotyping a whole and populous group (believers of all denominations) by the actions of a few. It's equivalent to saying that "Islam is a lie and a delusion" based on the events of September 11th, 2001 only of course it's not as politically sensitive.

You don't know Silver_Dark, so I don't know how you can decide whether or not they're a decent human being based on a couple of words on a bulletin board. Your mockery of Antagonist's beliefs is skating very close to breaching the terms and conditions of these boards.

I think if you were anyone else, I'd report you to a moderator, but we're both allegedly mods here and resonsible for maintaining this community I think this is unacceptable.

Edited: for spelling.

Just to go all science/philisophical on you, you can't prove absence.

There is no way that you can prove that Dragons don't exist, or Unicorns, or Vampires, we just accept it as years of human experience has taught us this. the same way that you can't prove that gravity will carry on working tomorrow, you just accept it based on experience.

Actually, having said that, half of you lot probably still believe in vampires, Dragons, and Unicorns.

Ahh, therein lies the beauty of weighing up years and years of the combined experience of billions of people. Philosophically, you can't prove that gravity *won't* pack its bags and cease all operations tomorrow, but experience and common sense tell you that you'd have to be stupid to jump out of a 10 storey high window just to give yourself the infinitely improbably chance of proving that gravity might indeed be partial to a day off.

I think this is what Fad's getting at. You'd have to be stu^W severely challenged in the common sense department to truly believe certain things. Some people have outlandish beliefs simply because they like to dream, or enjoy wishful thinking - everybody has a crutch or three. I am not the sort of person to challenge anyone on these things *unless* they make a point of asserting their misguided thinking upon others.

I make a point of tolerating almost any human characteristic apart from the ones which are blatently harming others - and stupidity. In my eyes, stupidity is an attitude - not a state of ignorance or a lack of mental capability.

Going around in public asking about tapping into the Magickal energy sources of a club is about the same as going around explaining to people how you can fly. Expect that someone will laugh at you, and realise that it's because they have every right to, whether you think it tactless or not.

Ahh, therein lies the beauty of weighing up years and years of the combined experience of billions of people.

This is it exactly.

I believe in things which can be demonstrated to me, or reasonable extrapolations of this. I can see why people would want to believe in magic - it'd be great. But I have absolutely no reason to believe in it.

To be quite honest, I really cannot understand people who do. It is as Fad says, a psychological crutch. It's not going to solve your problems, and might make them worse.

Having said that, I'm not going to slag off "believers". I just genuinely feel a bit sorry for them.

science of course is just another philosophy, it seems to work and explain things as did religion when it was founded. As far as they could see the origins and explanations of there religions worked ,as they, as we would say "didnt know the whole truth." We ofcourse believe in science, this has only been around since around the late early 17-18 century. Christianity was believed to be true for much longer than this and so was paganism and any other religion, eventually these were proved as untrue by the philosophy and theories of science. It is inevitable that another philosophy that explains everthing in a more clear way and seems to work with the modern world will also wipe out science! As did science with religion. My piont is know one really knows the truth and i dont claim to know it either i believe that we really know nothing!

science has overtaken religions in many countries for one simple fact. it sucessfully predicts, not just explains. Other than that it is a philiosophy like any other. it even has it's own trinity the proton, electron and neutron.

Unlike many other religions it has gained acceptance through its willingness - even demand - to be challenged and disproved, thus has the fount of 'knowledge' been enriched and built upon. it is democratised in that no one is barred from knowing anything - the inner truths are not guarded by a secret cabal as they are in many religions.

Nonetheless much of what we hold to be fact is wrong and will in the future be disproved. example - 40 years ago the thought that humans emitted and were receptive to consiously undetectable pheromones would have been seen as ridiculous now it is accpted fact. I persoanlly am a beleiver in science, but remain a sceptic i doubt i am alone in that ive witnessed things that (as a science graduate) I cannot explain.

Hmmm, science, to me, is 'knowledge' based upon results passing some thresh-hold which makes them acceptable as 'fact', and the inability of peers to come up with an alternative or more plausible/likely view (or disproof).

As far as I'm aware, there is little (if anything) that we actually KNOW beyond all shadow of a doubt. So, therefore, even science requires an element of faith.

We ofcourse believe in science, this has only been around since around the late early 17-18 century!

You would do well to read about the ancient Greek philosophers, and people like Archimedes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes) who were scientists hundreds of years B.C. Science is merely a means of successfully predicting the behaviour and granting understanding of the things around us, some of which we observe directly, and others of which we observe through consequence. Even completely invisible and counter-intuitive things (like quantum mechanics) are successfully predicted and described more and more accurately through ever developing theories. There is no faith involved apart from the realisation that the theory that is currently understood is so far the most accurate.

Fuck all this religion, magick, and other bullshit, and fuck anybody that compares science to this stupidity. Wake up. Try cursing someone with death while they rely on the predictability of the bullet whose trajectory has been accurately predicted by the theories and laws which science has understood to be heading directly towards your head.</rant>[/url]

To be honest i completely made that up and tried to look intelligient. I thought it sounded good and made up some liitle theory. When i said 17-18th century i meant modern scince. (scientific revolution etc)
