Hi there,
Would be interested in the singing part, BUT, I am absolutely unable to write Lyrics, so I guess if you need a singer/song writer, I'm out of it.
I tried to start a band a few years back with a friend and a mate of his with whom he was in a band previously, it was fun but never went anywhere and didn't last long as my friend got caught up with the "other basic things of life" ie: got his girlfriend pregnant and had to start playing happy families! After that I guess, there would have little scope for band stuff in his life so it died a quick death.
One point: I was not born forward and confident and it takes a lot for me to stand up in front of people. But when I was singing with my friend, the more I did it, the more I gained confidence and the better I got (mind you, the futher it got was in front of him and his mate as we rehearsed in the spare room, so, not really the Albert Hall!!)
Apart from that, my musical tastes remain pretty much all the old fashion Goth stuff: Cure, Sisters, Mission, Siouxsie, And Also the Trees, Chameleons, Breath of Life, Rosetta Stone, Killing Miranda, Altered States, HIM... I also LOVE Type O Negative (from Bloody Kisses onwards) and quite like Nickleback's Silver Side Up album type of thing. But I'm not at all into "New Metal", stuff like Linkin Park, Papa Roach...
I like a tune myself, both on the vocal and instrument side of things, not so much growling and hammering of strings! I guess that might make me too much Goth and not enough Metal for what you are looking for?
What would your role be in the band?
Anyway, give me more details and stuff...
Good luck in your search until then,
Trinity

I am looking to start a band. But I'm male and I want to sing and play guitar. However I'm not looking at making a band that is 'goth'. A Cure, Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Bowie type act which appeals right across the board is the kind of thing I'm looking to do. Can't sing much but have plenty of ideas.
I'm currently playing lead guitar in a band called Martyr, but unfortunatly our vocalist is moving to Birmingham and we've decided to give it up.
What exactly do you mean by goth/metal? something like Field of Nephilim? My music taste varies widely, i like a lot of trad goth (siouxsie, cure, bauhaus, echo and the bunnymen etc.), newer gothy stuff (Crüxshadows, London after Midnight, etc.) a bit of techno/industrial but I also like some completely random things like NiN, Alanis Morissette, Disturbed, Nirvana and Gary Numan...
I would quite like to give playing guitar for you a try, I have a Gibson Gothic Explorer and a Peavey 5150 stage amp, but I must warn you that as i'm dyspraxic it takes me abit longer to master stuff, but I should be fine. If you're interested, you can email me at Gother__Than__Thou@hotmail.com (two underscores between each word)
have a nice day :)
and also I know a fantastic drummer who has worked on quite a few albums of differing styles in the past who would be willing to work as a paid touring drummer (not actual band member) if you want.

Hey phoenixthecat, if you're willing to wait till sept/october, HELL YES. I live in Ireland at the mo' and am in a band called Cinderella's Ashes, but we're playing our last gig in July cos I'm moving to England. I sing, play keyboard & a bit of bass, etc. Plus I write lyrics and keyboard music (but I can't write tabs for shit!). My lyrics are simplistic but meaningful. I REALLY like your idea(s), Illuminated. All I ever listen to is trad stuff/ new wave/ 80's pop! I'm one of THOSE... you know. An 80's fan who CAN'T LET GO! lol.
So, when I move to England, I'll come to slimes and we can discuss this over Sambuka!
where are you? London? if so im your bassist. Huge range of influences. I can write lyrics too.
Been playing 3 years, im on a diploma course in music. Had recording and gigging exp too.
mail me if youre interested.

was just about to ask location.
im a bassist & in birmingham if thats any help.
was in a band a couple of months ago, but the singer kicked me out coz i told her that i didnt think it was a good idea for us to live together next year. o well, she didnt write the kind of stuff i want to play, dodgy girly 'punk' *shudders* but it helped me improve imensly, so its all good. & tbh i would have left as soon as i found something better anyway.
[edit] oh yeah, i also write lyrics occasionally

Singer/Lyricist, can vary styles and pitch, NW London. can play piano and compose but would rather not play the piano.just useful for figuring out harmonies etc methinks, in a band situation, obviously i just enjoy playing it for the sake of playing it when alone.
methinks i'll leave it at that and if interested send a private message.

I would also like to register my interest (oooh, look at me, all posh!.
I have been playing guitar over a year and now really adore good rhythm playing (shredding ain't my thing!)
Can't sing neither.
Gimme a shout if you're down with the sickness!
