Okay, in light of recent years of bitching and maoning about setlists and DJs wreteched hours of playing, here is the thread to thank the DJs for a great set over the weekend......So go ahead and thank him\her for a great weekend.......

If you know the DJs name put it in

Music on the main floor was a good selection last Saturday, at least during the time I was there - from about 10.30 to 2.30 (or 3 - can't remember)

I don't remember a night when I did not approach a DJ to let them know how happy they had made me with their set, so they know(specially Pete, Francesca, Alex, Uwe, Mak and Kelly-because I am VERY shy I have not said anything yet in person to Untermensh and... well, don't remember his name, the third DJ from the glorious threesome in January).

I never tend to tell a DJ how bad/disappointing their set was. I just leave the dancefloor or ask for if it is possible to know what DJ is coming up at what time.

So I thank them again from here for the very good moments I had thanks to them and how much I learnt and enjoyed their music.

much liek Pamdora, i usually tell the DJs too when i liked it .. in fatc i sing their praises and ask them when they will be back next.

Francesca, Matt, Untermensch and when in a good mood Pete make my night on a regular basis (well when they are there)

i just wish Francesca had been on longer last saturday, as usual there was nothing bad at all (make a nice change eh? ;) ) to say abo0ut the set, its varied, its hard, its spot on :)

i would love to see more of the noise loving people to be in a group, they seem to bounce off each other... :)

You were lucky because music in middle floor was "weird" from 3 'till 6:30...there wasn't any difference with the top floor!!!!!

Obviously something was going wrong with middle floor yesterday as it's not very usual to find a club where there are more people dancing at 7 than at 4!!!

And did anyone notice that two of the most popular song yesterday were "Temple of Love" and "More"?

funnily enough is disagree, cos i danced for a bit on the middle floor and then went up and there was pounding noise upstairs, wheras i heard ebm downstairs... actually i would say it was pretty good ebm downstairs ;)

Well, I'm not an expert on ebm.... and I hope I never will

It's just that I would like more "crap" traditional goth in the middle floor instead of those mainly "electronic" sets...

To give names...my favourite Dj on Saturday was Loki. He was the only one for me. He make people dance!!!!!

whatch out for the three floor thingy, as you find that there will be a goth floor all to itself. :) a noise floor would be fantastic once a month btw :D

hehe missing APB... normally only found on the middle floor unless the DJ really wanna freak out the noiseheads ;)

i dont think i would ever even want the middle floor to be gone, its great mix floor and from time to time i chill there with a bit of terror ebm and industrial ;)

its even been seen that i danced on the goth floor once ;)

thanks Loki for playing Rose Clouds of Holocaust... great song! :D

Usually the middle floor *does* have a good mix of noise/industrial and more trad music , but I did find that there was a really over long chunk of the light devoted to industrial etc all this time!

depends on your definition of noise and industrial...

i presonally think that terror ebm ebm noise experimental and noise would share a floor well as much as goth and trad industrial and 80ies and electronic/futurepop

Very much depends on your taste in music really, personally i don't like the goth/80s stuff

In my opinion middle floor truely sucked Saturday night. So instead we spent most of our dancing time from 11ish - 2:30ish on top floor which owned :)
We then stayed on middle floor and it didn't really get any better it was mainly trad goth stuff being played and whilst I was there around 3 EBM tracks. =\
Oh well I still had a great time on top floor :)

Few !! I wasn't dj'ing between 3 and 6:30 8) but thank you for the kind comments . . .about me on this thread (my times & set list on the DJ postings) but you can't please all of the people all of the time as they say . . whoever they are .
But I'm sure all D's do their best :D

Speaking for myself, I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy the middle floor; and to be honest I didn't play much EBM.
The reason was that Steve and Neils normally play a great deal of EBM so as a rule I normally take mostly goth with me together with a small amount of punk and industrial to try to give a balance of music. I played what I normally do. My main set was the first 2 hours followed by 45 mins at 1:15am and the last hour.
The idea of the middle floor is to play Goth/EBM except when there is a trad goth floor when it mostly plays EBM. At least you had a good time on the top floor ( does this lead to another thread?)

Saturday 20th March - Industrial Floor...
There is no worlds at all to describe what occured between 12am and 7:30am in that floor today...
I did say to all DJs what I thought about their sets so they now exactly what is going on by now.
A bunch of criminals who want to kill us people by just making us dance to death.

My body aches but I am floating: Resistance, an intense saturday  at home and again Resistance and Slimelight...

I was stuck on that floor, found the coolest spot(it was hard to keep it) to be able to carry on dancing and make the most of it, having little breaks sitting around the dancefloor, about to jump to it which was far "too often". The whole big spanish noize bunch was extatic.

It was gorgeous, powerful, intense, pleasurable...

Once again, thank you Franceska, Pete and Mak.(Also to that German guy DJ who came out of nowhere)

9th of april

thank you Untermensch, how did we (noise freaks) cope before you came along?

i am still not a friend of techno (at slimelight) but you handled the mix very well as you did not let us wait for long for the next noise track, i find that sort of mix easy to handle and either gives me time to get a drink or i just carry on til the next noise track...

Cool, I hope we can find the right balance and keep lots of people happy! I definitely lean more towards the noise but last night there were a bunch of hardcore / techno heads about so I threw in a bit more of that than normal, and took requests for a change (hehe). Hope it went down ok with the rest of you lot!

Aye, she played some good stuff...but really dunno why she slipped that cheesy Axel F trance track in there...it was utter ARSE BISCUITS! (plus it was being played all of five years or so ago in the more mainstream clubs...I know cuz I know someone who used to play it :P)

Meh. She could've at least used the Iszoloscope mix...

but honest, i thought it gone a little uplifting at some stage but as soon as the thought was formed it was back to heavy stomping.. maybe she wanted to save our lifes by making us take a break?

That's Shelagh - I quite like it when she plays because she always has a few kickass tracks which I don't know. Also, she's the one playing the new XoToX :)

"It makes real cup cakes, with a 40 watt bulb...and the secret ingrediant...is love!"

*** I love Sealab 2021 (^_^) ***

ah shite, i thought she did use the izoloscope mix but i was desperate for the place unmentionably horrid things lurk, so i went for lil rivets when that was on ;)

as i said, she wanted to save our lifes by forcing us to take a break...

also somebody who plays the new Xotox got at least 3 crap track free in my book ;)

A massive thankyou to Matt for two great sets upstairs this weekend. Finally some music it is actually possible to dance to! Judging by the number of people dancing, I'm not alone in thinking this.

This is precisely what has been missing ever since Andy left last year. I hope this is going to be a regular thing now?

Oh, and is there a set list?

*takes a bow* thanks well it was a little biased being the only person dealing the hard stuff all night  but the top floor rocked plenty of cheering and hands in the air - gave me a real boost - the set was totally improv and i didnt make a note unfortunatly - i can however give you an idea of what i played if you like

As for regular - i have been spinning on the top floor since October every couple of weeks bar a few, many people did say i should consider myself a resident now ive done one on my own so to speak, but as always its up to Mr Mac to decide who plays and who doesnt and so far he hasnt asked me to leave...... (it will have to be kicking and screaming and being cut away from the decks - trust me)

Ill be there every 2nd and 4th Saturdays where possible provided i am needed, plus i may be moving to old london town in the near future depending on work so you may see more of me - oh yes

Now i have to find some gabber as many pretty ladies qwere requesting it, hmmm....*scratches noodle*

Catch ya later

As much as I enjoy CHEESEBM, Flux does have a point that on the 3-floors, not too much EBM should be on the top floor (altho I think some is still a plus), the same as there shouldn't be too much goth on the middle floor. The joy of a 3-floor is that you get more variety

EBM on 2 floors is not needed particularly when some tracks were played on both floors, the top floor is SUPPOSED to be industrial/noise etc i think old school industrial, noise, hard electro, techno, gabber and hardstyle should be on the top floor with djs who know their particular genre well and concentrate on a good mix of popular and unheard of tracks bringing in djs who specialise in a given area to add an extra element to the whole club, this way the top floor will have that 'alternative rave' feel for those that want it and more easy listening EBM, electro, electroindustrial etc should be kept on the middle floor, this will ensure non of the same will be played on any floor, which i thought was the idea....

There does need to be some definate distinction between the floors otherwise whats the point..!?

You can please all the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time......

I didnt intend to turn this into a floor Vs floor music rant... :/

to say the music was toilet is a bit unfair tbh - noone is ever going to be happy with the selection of music that is played (like Slimes is an Utopia!) anyway, i think the general consensus is that EBM should stick to the middle floor, MattC played a couple of good, well mixed sets i thought but would be better placed on the middle floor, i believe Pete was at a Kendo comp or something and Francesca is busy with work atm so fair enough - i personally wouldnt mind playing a 4 hourset (and would LOVE to actually) also Untermensch doe a good set when he is about and there are a few other djs knocking about that would fit the bill, but you have to bear in mind that sometimes there just arent enough hours in the day to get things organised (pfft there is never a dj list when we do play- not that that is a big deal or anything as we usually work it out amongst ourselves and it all goes smoothly - normally) and if its a last minute thing the most i,mportant thing is to have djs to provide music rrather than having the same dj all night.

Sounds like some of us are just top floor noise purists

kylon
01-06-2005, 09:56 PM

Personally I enjoyed it most when Andy, Pete, Kelly and Uwe were DJing. That way the top floor played through a spectrum of sound, from rhyhmic noise through to trance-ish techno, taking in heavier EBM stuff and even a bit of old-school if we were lucky. Not everyone who went there enjoyed all aspects of the music, but the variety maintained the momentum of the night. I like 'noise' stuff, as i keep saying, but when I hear the same Sulphuric Saliva track 3 times in the same night, then the DJs are doing something wrong.

Anyway, the posts on this forum are hardly reflective of most of the club. If you payed attention to this place, then its quite clear the next guest DJ should be Vin Diesel.

Industrial Freak ... I think I said hello to you last time you played ... great night as usual!! ... thanks!!

As Kylon says, I don't think this forum is particularly representative of peoples' tastes in Slime. If it were, we would have "noise" only on the top floor & nothing else.

Most people that go to Slime and frequent the top floor, love the whole cross-section of music that gets played there, which includes the EBM. There will always be some "winers" that follow a trend of only wanting a particular genre and criticising anything else, but I'm not one for following trends as I'm sure is the case with most Slimers, so I say "fuck 'em!", let the DJ that's playing do his/her stuff.

BTW ... I do of course realise that you don't play the EBM, but your tunes are fucking great IMHO ... so, just keep doing what you do best dude!! Nice one!

Hey Sp we did indeed say hello last time - nice to meet you at last!

true this forum isnt represntative but still many have voiced their purist views regarding the top floor and these have been watched and noted by myself as well as others, im not saying the variety of music on the top floor is bad only that it should be kept more underground (where EBM isd NOT underground) i know a few great djs up North that play some dirty, dirty, filthy techno that would be good, blended into the noise, thye top floor should be for the skilled underground massiv - innit! and i would like to bring some of these people to try something a bit different to the usual - if its a winner great! if it isnt - well at least i can say i tried.

Thing is it doesnt matter what music is played on the top floor - it will be busy.

(apart from when Pete and i have our 'who can empty the dancefloor most with the most fucked up track' competition - so far im winning 3-2 :) )

Some of the djs dont listen to other djs and do have to go between floors hence a possible crossover of music, sometimes thjis is unavoidable.

at the end of the day this is my opinion of how to keep Slimes one of the best clubs in Europe - as it already is

Oh where is Snowwy when you need her, to argue that it shouldn't be played in Slime if it is played in other clubs? Or is that only when it is the sort of techno she doesn't like?

But can we distinguish between 2-floor and 3-floor nights. On 3-floors, I agree there should be a bit more differentiation; but still some cross-over (I am thinking of stuff like TMO and other "terror-ebm" or whatever the fuck it is called.) But when there is only 2 floors, you have less airtime to fit in all the music, so the two floors should provide more of a continum (or else it means if the top-floor is all noise, then either the EBM or Goth people we be complaining about there being too much of the other on the middle floor)

Crash_Dark

I think it's the variety and experimentation that are a big part of what makes Slimelight what it is. Giving new stuff like gabba a try seems like a good idea, to see how it goes down (yes, there will be complaints, of course). Dirty techno already gets played sometimes, and seems to go down well. Thankfully no-one seems to be taking seriously the idea that any floor should be restricted to just one type of music (be it noise, EBM or whatever). Some crossover is inevitible, and (in my view) isn't a bad thing, as long as each floor sticks largely to its remit. Again, there will always be some complaints, because peoples' opinions on what constitutes 'largely' sticking to these remits will vary.

I agree with Blink that, in the event of a three-floor, it makes sense that the trad floor plays mostly trad, the middle floor lessens its trad content, and the Industek floor lessens its EBM content. Ultimately it's part of the DJs' jobs to get a feel for what's working on their floor at any given time, and to adapt accordingly, and I think that on the whole, the Slimelight DJs do a pretty good job of this.

no nothing wrong with a bit of this and that thrown in but when this and that becomes the style of the whole night and genres which really would need a good home (shudders at the tought of slimelight being a home) such as industrial (old style and new style) then the annoyance begins.

also check the venue for crossover style of music, its happening, i personally would not really like it if slimelight moves yet further away from being a goth industrial and "Schwarze Szene"* club

i have heard so much techno in slimelight, to be honest, i wish there was a re-embursement sceme for when you hear townie music the whole night.

i still fail to see what exactly is so good about playing that stuff, gowd knows i could be into classical music. why is there no classical music playing at slimelight?

in fact, i think that there is a good old number of slimelight customers who like classical music, so if they keep requesting it then slimelight changes into a classical, powernoise, goth etc club?

is that why people wear pink tutus at slimelight?

actually, i prefer the nutcracker to swan lake ;)

Oh where is Snowwy when you need her, to argue that it shouldn't be played in Slime if it is played in other clubs? Or is that only when it is the sort of techno she doesn't like?

actually, she would much rather argue the point of people who attend far less hours per month than her who then argue the living daylight out of why synthpop and townie club music should be played there.

the techno i like.... hmmm well i could say the techno i actually *like* is so noisey that you might as well call it noise but even that bores me when i am subjected to more than a couple or tracks in a row occasionally no problem.

can we get Industrial Freak to tell us when he plays an all techno set as i would find it a bit sad to having to wait all night for a couple of noise tracks.

besides once again, as i am more than happy to please Blink, techno is played in its filthiest version elsewhere, why would slimelight have to cater for it, when you can so easily go to a different club?

i know full well who the boss is of slimelight, all i do is voice an opinion and hope it will be considered.

But can we distinguish between 2-floor and 3-floor nights. On 3-floors, I agree there should be a bit more differentiation; but still some cross-over (I am thinking of stuff like TMO and other "terror-ebm" or whatever the fuck it is called.)

actually TMO is quite tribal and i think of it as heavy enough for the top, somehow, now that years have passed since its release, The One Eyed Man has found its way to the lower floor occasionally. also i have requested a TMO track yesterday on the top floor (and it was played, its played frequently). the thing is, its more tribal and its very rhymic, which is the type of stuff people often like even if they cannot handle the very heavy noise.

But when there is only 2 floors, you have less airtime to fit in all the music, so the two floors should provide more of a continum (or else it means if the top-floor is all noise, then either the EBM or Goth people we be complaining about there being too much of the other on the middle floor)

hehe, very very very extremely rarely has to top floor been all noise!

also again, hence me pointing out that industrial gets seriously neglected yet would fit the bill totally.

come to think of it there were much less all noise nights than goth floor nights.

terror ebm (as its pretty industrial), yeah, i dont mind that stuff, i prefer noise but why not terror ebm and industrial and noise floor as long there is still enough of the noise and it doesnt get neglected again, i think a lot of industrials would warmly welcome it and you Blink and other people who like lighter music could still get synthpop and electroclash and ibiza goth (futurepop/electro goth) on the lower floor, which sounds totally fair to me, does it not?

i somehow doubt though that the concept of the slimelight will ever change, i guess its all down to voicing opinion and then go back next week and hope it wouldnt be the musically speaking week from hell ;)

also, i have had my very bestestest club nights at slimelight ever! well but also pretty dire ones.

*Schwarze Szene (black scene) - german term for industrial, ebm, goth, neofolk, etc scene, because their followers wear a lot of black and are coming from a gothish/punkish/industrialish background.

i totally agree with you there Loki, D&B has got loads of clubs, breakbeats too (even if i like it, i would not disagree if people say it doesnt fit the style of the club) also techno is in my opinion mainstream. also trance and even if its the wildest psytrance, there are plenty of clubs (in better furnished clubs, i may add)

then also neofolk gets played way too rarely, ah yes, i licked blood and minimal, which i havent heard at all i dont think but i havent heard much of it altogether, so i could have overheard it.

why not stop suggesting making a townie club out of slimelight and explore more music that should be more played at slimelight for the variety?

i like it when you DJ Industrial Freak because you often play great noise - but i dont like raves, i used to but point here is that those raves exist and do you really need to replicate them at slimelight and also what kind of people would such a night attract?
well if you ask me, the kind of people that i usually get hassled by, cos they think that i am on my own, as i dance on my own, i do not usually get hassled by goths or rivetheads (which i bemoaned as long as i was still looking for a partner ;) )

well who ever you are Star Fucker reading this and other post it's clear that you don't like what I play . .well tough shit!
You say nothing positive and hide behind some invented name.
You don't hear any of us slagging your taste.
But I ask one thing are you realy a representative of Synthetic Culture as you claim

hey, i did not say that, i try not to flame anyway.... also i really dont like upsetting Loki as i think he is a nice chap (hence me running when he got upset last night ;) )

Saturday 11 June 2005

yes, we saw another night of total intense noise mayhem!

thank you sooooo much

Untermensch (goddamit your mixes man, you rock!)
Gassmann, Francesca, Industrial Freak (excelent stuff btw, yes you win, you know good techno ;) ),
i have got no idea if Matt DJed, as at some point i saw him but could not see if he had been on the deks too.. if you did, i take everything back that i said about your lousy taste ;), Mak (inspired me to do a serious stomp in the end and i didnt mind the weird trance stuff one bit as the night was so utterly good)

who did i forget?

you guys really know da noise...

also the dancefloor was boiling over at some point, really very well done

btw you created a new noise fan too, somebody very close to me simply needed to hear noise aloud :D now he is hooked ;)

I think AS A RULE, those who are more likely to feel aggreived/pleased about the DJs music selection are far more likely to congregate on either the top floor or trad goth floor (when it's open). The middle floor doesn't seem to have as many music anoraks like the others floors do and seems (on a whole) content with whatever Steve/Nils play.

Heh, maybe those of us who like those floors don't have such narrow tastes? On the whole the music on the other floors is pretty good. Yeah, they have what I view as bad patches (which some others, no doubt, love-so I'm not saying they should only play to my tastes or complaining about it) - I just go and talk to people or try a different floor in that case. Such is (at least part of) the beauty of Slimelight.

The music on the bottom two floors this Saturday was, on the whole, maybe not as good as it normally is, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the club much. I still had a great time.

speaking of good or bad

TOO MUCH TECHNO ON THE TOP

reently spolit the noisehead's enjoyment of the top

again, do not take my dancing for a sing that i like the music, D&B be4longs to other clubs

please stay "alternative" please.

oh and give us some more "filthy" noise and maybe terror ebm like combi chirst and feindflug (thanks Uwe and Francesca) who also seem to fit the bill of the "hard industrial floor"

please do not include nambi pambi shite that can be heard on the lower floor...

we are sick of covenant, apoptygma berzerk, vnv nation ect...... please

also i still think that townie/mainstream music should stay in townie/mainstream clubs, no matter if they were slimelight regulars 10 years ago or not!!!!!!!!!!!!

thinks seem to change....

I think that is mainly (speaking in the broadest possible sense) because a lot of the middle floors patrons (certainly ones I know) do not have so much interest in the music, they are far more likely to make do with a few fairly recent compilation CDs containing all the latest "electro-goth hits". Music for some people is secondary to having somewhere to go of a Saturday and hang about with your mates.

I agree though that it's always the "upstairs" and "traditional" floors that seem to provoke the most debate as far as music policy goes.

Brilliant night thank you.

Thanks especially to Francesca, Untermensch and Matt, very much enjoyed your sets.

also, i liked the more harsher ebm stuff Steve played upstairs from 6 something ish AM, it was a very welcome change to the less goth/industrial compliant stuff that we sometimes hear at that time on the top

again thank you very much, it was a great night!

1st i would just like to state for the record, as someone who frequents the middle floor that i have never bought a compilation CD in my life ""electro-goth"" or anything else!!! (cant speak for anyone else mind and i have met some of the people of whom Rivetmike speaks)

I would aslo agree that middle floor music has become (with a few exceptions, I missed saturday but was told it was awsome) rather dull and repetative and I think this is due to a lack of interest in middle floor music policy which, its true, is primaraly beacause middle floor mostly frequented by people with more relaxed musical tastes.

Just to prove there are some of us out there who are interested in what is played on the middle floor could anyone who wants to add to or critisize the folowing do so ASAP and lets get a genuine middle floor musical debate going on.

I for one would like to hear more Raised in Black more Project Pitch Fork (specificaly existance their version is the best) and more VnV and please stop playing the song (whatever its called) about the woman who became a spider and the man who became something else its well Jarring (note the capital J)

More to follow...

I agree I think that the DJs on the middle floor would play a lot more varied sets with a more receptive crowd. For example I know how much new music Steve gets but I'd wager he wouldn't dare play most of it on a Saturday night.

Just to prove there are some of us out there who are interested in what is played on the middle floor could anyone who wants to add to or critisize the folowing do so ASAP and lets get a genuine middle floor musical debate going on.

I'll reserve judgment on what's being played currently at Slimelight on a Saturday until I next go as I'm not exactly qualified to speak at the moment as know that the music and even which floor the DJs play on has been a bit more mixed up recently but I have not been there recently to form an opinion .

It was what I call a proper Slimelight night, eclectic and buzzing. With a constant flow of people dancing and visibly enjoying it. The atmosphere was there and the DJ's that had to be there where there. Not more, not less.

no youre right, its a matter of sorting out where to go but Leipzig is a hotspot and Berlin and so is the Ruhrgebiet. once a month a good night would be enough. weekly clubs are fine but its almost impossible to guess what type of night one will have at slimelight. it would be easier to judge wether or not one wants to go if we knew what type of music who is djing and when.

also it would be very good if the upstairs djs posted a playlist.

just when i thought its not worth going ever i am being presented with a FUCKING KILLER night.

thank you slimelight, last night was super.

thank you Loki for putting a few tracks on when we arrived and special thanks go to Francesca too who is upholding the industrial tunage.

i danced all night and for once, i am a very happy bunny.
all there is left to wish for is maybe a little (lot hehe) old style, non guitar based industrial.

also thank you over the year for all the mails i was sent by people who obviously liked watching me going round in circles like a caged animal ;) and who took their time to tell my man and myself how much they liked our outfits.

and sorry to those people who tried to talk to me or said hello and i have not been in the mood for socialising. much apologies to "Kevin's Girlfriend" who patiently told me for the n-th time who she is and i keep not remembering but it all came back when i headed home, so there is hope ;)

Have to strongly agree with Einsatzkommando here, last night was a blast. Though I think the best part of the night was after three or so, when they played loads of excellent songs in a row in the middle floor, had me dancing like mad almost in perpetual motion. And while the usual eighties-like stuff began at 5, the top floor offered some memorable moments after that, especially the Combichrist (I think) song played a little after 5, had me jumping all over the quietish dancefloor there. Good stuffs.

And hello CIW. :)

Loki played some excellent sets....

We got there around 10:30 and Loki was on the middle floor... we entered to the sound of "This Corrosion" and I was thinking, is he going to be playing goth until 11pm... a couple of songs later, I heard "Under the Gun" by Run Level Zero, and was a bit puzzled, cos at my b'day bash at Slimes in October, I had brought a CD with me with some tracks i wouldn't mind hearing, in case the DJs didn't have them, and "Under the Gun" was on that CD....
Loki had said to me that Run Level Zero were rarely played cos it kills the dancefloor, though he played it for me on my b'day night...
So, hearing it again on the 21st, I went over to Loki, reminded him of the CD I had made, and what his comments had been on that night, and here he was playing it... to which he said "Oh yeah! Come here, you!" and he grabbed me, hugged me, and kissed me on the cheek...
After Run Level Zero, Loki then tried to kill me by playing stuff I like, about six or so tunes in succession, and tunes I'm positive were on the CD I had made...
I think Loki took that CD home with him and finally got round to listening to it... LOL!

so yeah, top marks to Loki, LOL!!!!

Fantastic music on the top floor this weekend just gone. Lots of crunchy, rhythmic industrial noise... As always, though, it got shit at about 6 / 6.30 when we got the usual breed of Prodigy, Leftfield etc etc...

One question. At pretty much dead on 4:10am there was a tune played on the top floor with a really unusual beat... Who was DJing? Anyone know what the tune was?

Even the "big" acclaimed Maschinenfest has a dancey ending every night when people go absolutely mad and let us not talk about the last night when the last dj play even quite cheesy music and people are extremely happy with it...

maschinenfest is not a club, in fact the DJing area is the merchandise stall area too, so its hardly the same, also it is the same munted crowd, who really are not all that interested in industrial anyhow, who love the dance music. i for one did not hear any cheesey music at maschinenfest apart from the throwing out stuff, in order to make the people retire to their respective hotels and prodigy is still shit if its played at maschinenfest, dedicated industrial nights or in normal chav clubs. but if the DJs think its great to play shit then thats up to them. at least maschinenfest provides actual industrial stuff too like brighter death now for instance, who oddly will play at KOKO and not at slimelight in april.

the dancefloor, no matter what people are saying aloud is packed when certain DJs are doing their stuff and those are not the ones who have to resort to the same chart tracks that they have been putting on every saturday for the at least a whole year in a desperate attempt to get more favours from the management or good reviews from people who would be better off goiing to frantic, wild child, gods kitchen, psyched or the fabric, which is only 20 minutes on foot from slimelight (but not quite as cheap)...

slimelight and its DJs can really not compete with any of the big clubs, even though some like to believe that they could. most of the mixing goes totally wrong, beat matching seems to be a huge problem for some and the breakbeats are not broken, they are disjointed. as for the techno, in the words of a techno loving mate of mine: slimelight's techno is shit. but what to expect from a club where you get told that electronicat is industrial? there are some guests at least who are well able to tell what is industrial and what is not.

the good DJs though get crap slots, maybe its a desperate attempt to rescue the musical night but simply adds to endless frustration with the club and the numbers of guests on the top floor speaks for itself i think.

but thats how we love it, thats how slimelight is. i still have good nights there and bad ones too but i can just say, its not what it used to be and the reputation will wear thin some day.

long gone are the days of every saturday being a 3 floor night and people being required to at least look the part in order to get in. things are constantly changing, maybe sometime in the future the changes might even equal an improvement?

Pete managed once again to squeeze the excellent Young Gods in his second set...

Mak, your set was too short! Bad man! Not that you will read this or be bothered by what I say, but it is common exercise to complain here and I just dislike to stand out... oh my god, i thought francesca was trying to kill us last night....

whoever was on before francesca's second set upstairs, a blonde-haired dj, played hard dancy stuff, which i danced to simply to keep myself moving.

once she came on, though, it was stomp-fest all the way! proper harsh, noisy, stompy.... it was absolute heaven!
then steve weeks was on, and he played some quality tunes as well. not as noisy, but good stuff all the same. then whoever was on after him played another noise-laden set, and i stomped my arse off all damn night!

You, you, you and you weren't there tonight and you missed a fantastic upstairs night...!!

Francesca was great, Pete showed the world how to mix as a professional tune after tune after tune of... I don't know, but if you start a set with Manufactura(Dance of Blood) and carry on in that line till the end, you just have to kneel and dance on knees... No Ibiza Techno(not that I have ever been in Ibiza yet, but...) and if someone think it was, then I am Lady Di!

And Mak got some T-U-N-E-S in his set he had not played in ages and are pieces of art, such as that Discipline from Malhavoc...

I can not say more...

Well, yeah, thanks to the people who were there and made a beautiful dancefloor several times where everybody was dancing with everybody.

Why is it still sunday and it is not saturday evening so I can get ready to go out again??????????
