last night was my first foray into slimes this year...
..and a most enjoyable one at that :)

mark was on fine form upstairs, his second set was inspired and a surprise mid slimes set from mak had the top floor packed.

and none of the shutting the industek floor at half six nonsense this week either.

i left tired, happy and sated :D

Yeah, it was a lot of fun last night. Nicely busy too, and on the middle floor Simon and Steve were on top form, keeping everyone up and moving until late. But I guess things got a bit too tired downstairs after 4 AM or so.

To be honest, I was tired myself too. It's hard to do all night without energy drink if you're used to having it, like I am. But it's healthier not to. :D

Most awesome night with enough slimelighters dancing most of the night including myself! Two blinding sets from Mak and Untermensch!!

My first set was very fast, noisy and very experimental new tunes and maybe too fast??
My last set playing with the Doc had some sound hiccup's at the beginning, not enough sound coming from Doc's laptop but in the end we managed to keep the dance floor going.. "Cheers for that"
This is not the end for The Doc, just a beginning as we will be hearing from him soon!! (Hopefully)

The first set was certainly fast, but definitely not out of place. That's why I still have cramp today!

As for my daft computer, a few soundcard options have been found, I just have to decide how much I'm going to spend on the thing now!

Anyway, all of the sets I danced to were awesome. Thanks to all the Dj's and of course Mak for three pretty much perfect sets. I can't remember the last time I heard Mak open and close the top floor!

I think I generally prefer the goth nights at Slimes. Not because I'd be going to the goth floor, but rather that the middle floor music seems to be better then for some reason.

And yeah, last night was such a good night. Lots of people again and with Simon & Steve playing in turns from 11 to 6:15, with seriously good and varied sets, I had many moments during the night when I wanted to get some water or have a breather, but just couldn't as the music was too good.

Really, the biggest reason why I think Steve & Simon are the best DJs of the house is that they've both got a good range of music they can and like to play, from different genres, both old and new etc. There is obviously stuff that tends to get played most weeks, but still they tend to spring surprises most weeks to keep you on your toes. And that's really important if you go on a regular basis to avoid it getting boring.

LOL.

I could compare them to the other DJs to show exactly why their good qualities are good. But I don't want to start flame-wars or anything by starting to "slag off" other DJs.

I've been going to Slimelight for more than three years most weeks. And I've heard a lot of other DJs play, in Slimes and also places like WGT, Infest and other places where quality DJs gather. So, I've got material to compare them to, it's not some sort of obscene "hero-worship" :p

I have a good night in Slimes when the DJs play stuff to my tastes, and actually honour my requests (and that's not just the Tactical Sekt ones, either!).

Also, if my knee is strong and I can dance properly it puts me in a better mood...

Steve and Simon usually do the job for me on the mid-floor though.

Ok, I have to admit that I'm not too up on Neofolk. Are we talking Death In June, Sol Invictus etc or have I got my wires crossed?

As for a whole night of noise, I did two nights at FOH last year and they weren't as long as Slimes goes on for. There were quite a few different acts but I did find myself getting slightly bored after a while.

Still, there was also some awesome stuff played by acts that I'd never even heard of. I got some fantastic new music from it! Anyway, enough of the random babble.

TL;DR Which bands constitute Neofolk?

the music upstairs last night was the best i can remember it being in a very long time.

mark and dylan conspired to play a truly pounding back to back set, mak, as ever was great and max's second set has to go down in my book as one of the best of the last 5 years. it's just a shame that there weren't more people there to enjoy it... there loss :p

unsurprisingly, the club started filling up with slimelighters who'd been to unholy, not liked it and thought to themselves something along the lines of "hang on, slimes is just up the road: i'd have much more fun there"

i think i probably spent less than an hour away from the dance floor the whole night.

if slimes was like this every week, all would be well with the world, i'm sure ;)

I'm in total agreement with everything you've said. Max's first set was even better than his second imo. Proper grinding noise and a lot of tunes I haven't heard played in Slimes for ages.

I'm hoping that this level of pure awesomeness continues! Great night had by all, looking forward to the next one!

There was a time when the two words "Noise" and "Slimelight" in the same sentence brought a smile to my face. Then the kids started sending each other Noize greetings cards.

However, last night from 11 til 1 reminded me why I smile at those 2 words. Not danced so much in a two hour stint for a long long time.

As for today, I have spent most of the time trying and failing to move aching muscles, as opposed to 2 weeks ago, when I bounced around the flat listening to Haus Arafna and Tarmvred to remind myself what noise is supposed to be (and it ain't tech).

I like the following tracks:

- Bring Me Violence
- Syncope

And I used to like a fair few more of their tracks .. but as said, they're getting old and I've heard them too many times. Not Entertained is one of those tracks that just doesn't seem to get old though, so I like it. Tell Anthony to make a whole album of awesome tracks like it. :D

Anthony unfortunately is busy with his family. I have asked before about Slimes, he's more or less okay with the idea, but it's up to Marco to get gigs organised. Ant told me he just turns up and performs at the gigs, he has nothing to do with arranging them.

I've been in touch with Marco about it, why don't you contact him as well? Just use the address on the Noitekk page, cos Marco is also the guy who runs that label :)

:p

It's got:
A) Great beat -- you'd be surprised how many tracks fail at this .. including most of the rest of TS
B) Understandable enough vocals that you can sing along -- again, lots of harsh EBM fails at this .. or they have something that sounds like Gremlins (see Psyclon Nine on Faith: Disease) and attracts LOLs rather than GRRs xD
C) It's got a second figure coming in half-way through after a quiet bit -- this is very important! tracks that bring in all their boomtang immediately get boring after a while (see Angst by Reaper)
D) It's got samples from the Gladiator ... and shouting "Are you not entertained?!" to the faces of other dancers is fun -- pick your samples well children! lots of crap and/or overused samples out there

Ok, so it's not "OMG, WOW, this is teh original!!" .. but it's fast track that is good fun to dance to. What is exactly what a club track should be about.

Umm, Excuse me?????!!!!!!

Most of TS has got a basic "bass - bass+snare - bass - bass+snare" like EBM in general does. But it only has got proper *oomph* on Not Entertained. The sort of *oomph* that you'll feel even on headphones, without being all just drums.

And ever since Reaper came out, this lack of *oomph* feels much more noticeable. Reaper isn't generally stunningly complex sort of music by tune, but Vasi does the *oomph* really well. And EBM bands nowadays need to learn that, if they want to sound good in comparison.

Anyway... I'm sick of hearing about Taktical fucking Sekt in every thread on the board. Make your own thread about them and sing their praises in there, I don't have time to waste on boring acts. Incidentally, don't reply to this post in this thread, create your own and I may, or may not, choose to respond.

Well I must admit that I couldn't honestly tell you whether or not the music was that great this weekend as I was a bit too worse for wear to actually notice....

However I did actually get up and dance for a bit which I haven't done for a while so somebody must have been doing something right! :)

All in all it was a pretty good night, lots of old faces out for Guy's leaving do, but in general I thought the club was a bit empty, there was hardly anyone on the top floor from what I can remember, but then again I can't remember that much!

Apart from my girlfriend being sick in my boots! Yes inside, how the f*$@ she managed that I will never know, as I was wearing them at the time! Nice.....

Still not a bad night though.

I was indeed at the Big Red prior to Slimes.

We were even sitting at the same table! :)

I'm Chris, Lauren's boyfriend (my hair's not blond any more so I probably don't look much like my Avatar).

The guy who was covered in purple vomit on the middle floor on Saturday thanks to his lovely girlfriend emptying 5 pints of snakebite and black into his lap!

Bless her! ;)

The night was most enjoyable and to top it all off the only one person recognized me was Max! I walked past Byakhiam several times, even smiled at him but typical Byakhiam was to busy talking and not enough dancing..
"Getting old maybe" Strange seeing that his BEST Dj was at his best miss matching beats 2 times on the middle floor and 2 times on the topfloor! (He should stay on the middle floor)
At least Untermentch, Max and Mak made the night and Simon should be shot for miss beat matching though out his sets....
I even danced right in front of Dr_absinthe for about an hour and he didn't even recognized me... sigh! sniff sob sniff..
Thinks maybe I should bang heads together!!!;)

Oh yeah ... missing a beatmatch sounds very crap for 20 seconds or so. But if you like the songs, you don't let it get to you too much.

However, even a perfect beatmatch doesn't make two boring songs exciting. :p

yeah, they had a few stutters and false starts, but massive big-ups to the noise boys Doc / Dwellems and Emerich (chemical6) for another blinding threesome this morning (!) (of course, Dr_absinthe's lone set was rather pleasing too, but I don't want his ego getting too excited!)

also mahoosive respect to Francesca (her second top-floor set particularly stompy, where does she find this stuff!!!?) and Matt C, whose set was seamlessly danceable as usual, but much darker than I've heard him play for a while, and very enjoyable, even for a cynical cow like me.

I also greatly enjoyed Loki's first hour of EBM classics... even if I was dancing by myself for a while!

But (sorry chaps) the star of the evening was Mak again, definitely back on form with a high-octane closing set.

Why would anyone go anywhere else for their Saturday evening's entertainment?
Fantastic stuff as usual.

Doc's set was excellent, kept me dancing all the way through it!

The live performances were amazing as well. I had watched SAM live before so I knew what to expect and was certainly not disappointed. I was also very amazed by Phosgore who, in my opinion, sounded much better live than studio.

Finally, Cybercide in the pre-show were very good but the sound could have been a lot better. As usual with electronic bands that feature live instruments, the drums and voice were too loud, almost covering the synths. Very energetic though, which is always a huge plus!

Other than that, there was too much hard trance which got a bit boring after a while..

seems now that the dance floors have been insulated, the sound's back to being as loud as the slimelight i remember from yesteryear :)
sadly, i didn't get to slimes 'til mak was spinning... still, that alone was worth the entry fee ;)

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant night!!! Mak and Francesca playing some interesting old school stuff (as well as all my usual favourites - Thanks Mak!!) Tyske Ludder were amazing, and the sexiest darn threesome of Doc, Emmerich and Max didn't have a dull moment. I'm gonna ache on Monday, but WOW was it worth it!

oh, and a special mention to Doc for mixing in PWEI's Cape Connection so beautifully that it crept up on me. That fantastic moment when a great tune morphs into an amazing tune and you never spotted the join.

well, it may have been a different layout that that i was used to, but last saturday was really good - hearing "velvet realm" by clockDVA and "asbestos lead asbestos" by world domination enterprises really made me smile - it was a belated new year for me as i was working and missed the actual night being a punter, and it was well worth the journey.

thank you for a wonderful night, see you all again soon

OK, it was a really slow start before that top floor finally opened, resulting in a lot of wandering around in the cold looking for somewhere to dance. But along with a good set from Autoclav and Xotox, there was plenty of DJ excitement on the top floor. 1st guy after Xotox (DJ Vertigoneogama?) put in some great tunes, and the Doc / Max / Chemical6 3way was one of their best. Personally, I could have done with some heavier tunes at the end, but on the whole it was a great night.

Oh, and the Karoake downstairs looked like a bunch of fun too!

No thanks at all from me for the last two DJ's on the 26th!.... cause the last two sets on the top floor prevented me from going home until the very end due to my other half enjoying them so much! Well done... sorta ;)

These laser lights by the tube area are amazing.. oh, and by the way Fran's and Steve's (and one song from Loki downstairs) sets saved my night :)

I would like to thank Loki for playing Marylin, My Bitterness by The Cruxshadows exactly when I needed it. Enjoyed shouting those lyrics out across the goth floor ;)

Music really does cure all!!

Wasn't at Slimes this weekend to say for definite, but I'm sure the music was as awesome as always!

Got fed up of seeing the other music thread every time I log in ^_^

So the music ranged from really quite good to not my bag on the middle floor until about 6:30 when exactly the right tunes were played at exactly the right time to unleash all kinds of awesome. It's sets like that that have me doing the 7 hour round trip and forgoing a nights sleep. Just wish I could come more often :)

Another fantastic night on the top-floor. Too many great tunes to mention, wicked live band, Halloween merriment and an extra hour t'boot. Huge love and respect to the best place to be on a Sunday morning. ;-)

Halloween once again proved to be a great night at the Slimes. Loved it right to the end incl. the extra hour.

after way too many fantastic live acts, the DJs put in another great one on that top floor. I was very amused to see some glowy raverboys throwing some shapes, and to watch them scuttle away several times during Mak's metal-flavour set. Was that an intentional bit of mischief? Nice bit of Ministry was a treat though.

Another good night. Walked in to a blinding track which I promptly missed because I had to shed my arctic gear at the cloakroom. Unfortunately I was feeling rough all night or I'd have been on the dancefloor much more than I was. Shame it ended early.

I agree. If you keep it like this, you are gonna get me dancing again one of these days ... :p

Edit: Btw, to avoid any confusion, that was *not* a criticism on the music up to these last slimes - i have just realized it could quite easily be interpreted as sarcasm. No hidden meanings, okie? I meant what I said, and nothing else. Ciao!

another fcuking great set Mr Weeksy! :) Especially the one from 2-4 last night and the one from the week before 0-2 (on the "1floor slimes"). Would you be so kind and publish a track list please? Even if I know most of the tracks, some are still mystery to me..

Agreed - the middle floor was top (eh!?!) this weekend. Despite considerable fatigue I lasted until seven when the call of the pillow proved too much...

As much as I hate to geek over one little tune I have to have a big shout out to Emmerick and Mak for both playing one of my all-time favourites, Cubanate's Lord of the Flies.

Twice in one night? That's more than some girls get in a lifetime! ;-)

Actually it was a brilliant night all round with some old tunes bashed out by Emmerick and Uwe early on, and then plenty of noisy classics by Doc and Max later. And lots of Cubanate and some Ministry too....

There was actually so much great stuff going on that I felt a bit spoilt for choice and MISSED Fran's set and hardly had a chance to check out the guest DJs on the top floor.

Nice to see the place properly busy too. Wicked fun guys, can't wait to go back next week!

i really loved the music mix on all three floors last weekend. thanks to all the DJs who kept me dancing till early in the morning! i could not come to slimelight for quite a while but -- like always in the past -- it was a very positive experience :-) definitely have to repeat that visit soon!

nevertheless, i was quite surprised about the low number of guests even during what were "peak hours" in the past. was there some other event the same night or is it usually not so crowded anymore? (even though i am happy to have some space around me when dancing, i can see the importance of enough guests supporting slimelight...)

just wondering...

There was Resistanz, a weekend music festival in Sheffield. A fair few Slimelight regulars were there.

well done djs!

missed last saturday due to, uhm...., over-dozing after the Operatino Garden Blast (ah, bank holiday's days off with good weather!), damn!
Guess was a good night due to extra-recovery time +payday (pretty much) everybody had??
:\

Anyway, think I'll storm in this saturday if I'm not too late from work!

I thoroughly enjoyed myself on Saturday - especially the old classic New Model Army.

Only real downer, was my distinct lack of fitness.
