There are a number of things that really piss me off from time to time, and one of them is people claiming, after one or two guest appearances, that they are a Slimelight DJ.
For those of us who have been regular, weekly dj's at Slimelight (and we know who we are) for someone who hasn't been working at the club in this capacity to come along and advertise themselves in this way is blatantly untruthful, not to mention arrogant!
Using the longstanding reputation of the club to bolster their own image is shocking, and an insult to those of us who are 'Slimelight DJ's', who have earned the right to call ourselves that by dint of having put in many, many hours play time over many years.
Not only this but it also dilutes the reputation of the club itself and the value of the real SLdj's.

And if it comes to pointing the finger?? Check this, from a Berlin club called k17 - see *** lower down

thought he does not say that he was a slimelight DJ on his website, he says he became a DJ with the help of DJ Judas, so i guess he would be a mate of his?

in any case, considering how infuriating it must be, does it really matter who he might be announced as? does it matter more than the music being played?

but then again, i might not understand this right but i personally do not think that DJ are super human beings and the <fangirl> bit is always a windup/joke. form my personal point of view, DJs are people who get payed to put music on for the masses, and bar staff is who serves them drinks ... also for money...

maybe being a DJ requires a bit more skill no more and no less. i do not think it is worth losing friends over.

If you go to an event becasue someone claims to be a SLimelight DJ, based on your knowledge of what is played at Slimelight, and you find out that this guy isn't a Slimelight DJ (possibly because they kicked him out for playing shitty house (not DJ Cyberchrist, just anyone using "false advertising"), then you are going to be pissed off.

Anyone going to an event that is advertised as one thing, and turns out to be another is going to be pissed off.

Imagine going to a night where Untermensch was advertised as playing, and they replaced him with Nils, but Slimelight DJ's but totally different music!

It's a good point Blink but in this case it's not the case as Cyberchrist is VERY represetative of Slimelights playlists (at least the middle floor).

There is also the issue of over use and dilution of the name.
Uwe, Kelly and myself have been trying for several years to get a slot at WGT only to be told that they 'didn't believe that we were real SL dj's because so many others have claimed to be'

So those untruthful enough to us the moniker have screwed it for the rest of us who have legitimate rights to it.

maybe a list on the homepage of who is currently an official Slimelight DJ (their music style and what floor they are usually on) could be used as reference? or is the system not as clear cut as that?

Sounds a reasonable idea, it'll also help to differentiate between those who are "resident" DJs and those who are guests.

It doesn't, but it matters to those DJs who want to get booked partially on that basis.

Seriously Guy practically EVERY DJ lists clubs that they have played at on personal propagnada (altho' I understand Slimelight to be a little stricter on this),next time you get handed a flyer check the guest DJ slots and you'll find that very few previously played at clubs listed are residency only.

I don't know the "ins and outs" of this particular matter but is it inconceivable to think that Cyberchrist got a job offer in Berlin on DJing merits rather than association? It's probably more down to the club in Berlin wanting to promote this night to locals as having a DJ playing from SL rather than the DJ in question saying so (after all I doubt he is printing and distributing the flyers in Berlin).

Rather than us having an opinion I'm sure Judas/Cyberchrist and Slimelight can sort it out between themselves.

Good point...but why post it in the forums if they are to privately sort it out. By posting it, it is surely going to get commented on.

I was thinking more about the situation at Leipzig, where it is apparent that unknown DJs have been making potentially spurious claims, rather than the Berlin club.

the only thing that made me suggest the listing of the DJs is (besides knowing who to suck up to ;) ) was the fact that i know how much weight the name slimelight has in the club scene in germany and that people get no chance to DJ at WGT on the basis of other's pretences... other than that, i dont care, as long as i like the music that has been flung at me through the speakers. also i was asked to co moderate a german industrial forum and wondered for a split second if i should cross post, which i obviously only do if the author want it to be cross posted.

DJ are not super human beings but they are at least for me the most important bit of going to a club. I have been going to clubs since I was 15 because Music drives me mad and I love dancing VERY much. I have always been around DJs because thanks to them my nights are different from one another and I learn more about music. I know many people go to Slimes to...TALK!!! 8O Well, I don't. I don't wanna talk to anybody really when I go to Slimes: I just want to dance, the rest is accessory. And to dance I need music that I like and for that I need DJs to surprise me with what they have to offer that night from a tiny little bit of their particular collection of Music and how they present it.

Year after year of going to Slimelight you start to recognise musical taste of the DJs, their style, or maybe even their mood. I think that's nice. I like it, so knowing who is djing or not gives you a little idea of what might be happenning musically.

I would be one of the very very very upset people who, expecting a resident Slimelight DJ in any given event/festival, would find that this person is just claiming but not being. And a few of my friends(99% of them being male) will equally feel the same...

DJs get payed, ok, but why should they do it for free?? Maybe in some cases they should get double payed for being too good
As for the bar people I always felt extremely sorry for them for not being able to jump into the dancefloor whenever. I think they also should get double payed actually for suffering this deprivation...

BTW, I thought Kelly was in South Africa... Any chance of enjoying his sets again from time to time if he is around, Uwe??

Kalle & Uwe are still around, just both outside of London - so they only spin when they happen to be in town over the weekend which isn't very often anymore. Much respect to them, they've both made a big impact on the music upstairs, and I think we all miss them loads...
