I thought this might be a good way to get to know people and get into more bands in a bigger way...and because I'm convinced I'm the only one on these boards with the broadest music taste!

I'll start it all off.

Anathema (metal)
Arcturus (metal)
Beethoven (classical)
Bach (classical)
David Bowie (rock/pop) x 2
Ray Charles (soul/jazz/blues)
Alice Cooper (rock)
Cruxshadows (goth rock)
Cult (rock)
The Cure (rock/pop) x 5
Depeche Mode (rock/synth) x 2
Duran Duran (80s pop)
Enigma (easy)
Fruedstein (goth rock)
Goldfrapp (ambient/easy)
Bon Jovi (rock)
Billy Idol (rock)
Keane (pop/rock)
Manic Street Preachers (rock/pop)
Bob Marley (reggae)
Muse (rock) x 3
New Order (pop)
Gary Numan (synth pop)
Oasis (pop/rock)
Placebo (rock/pop)
Prodigy (dance/rock) x 2
Queen (rock/pop) x 3
Radiohead (rock) x 2
Sex Pistols (rock/punk)
Stone Roses (psychedelic pop/rock) x 2
Switchblade Symphony (goth rock)
Tears for Fears (80s rock/pop)
U2 (rock/pop) x 9
Bill Withers (easy/jazz/blues/soul)
Clan of Xymox (goth)

Now...I can hear the screams of disgust...but how diverse is your music collection?

It would take me days to list all the artists I owned now. I have drawers upon drawers full of CDs. :P

I did compile a list in ~1998 of everything I owned though.

i got noise, ebm and some other stuff... not sure if i would gain anything if i listened to jazz now, i gave that up at age 14 together with the clarinet. i got somewhere a copy of my former chamber choir, and i have taken an exam in classical music once upon a time.... i know its nice to have a broad taste but not here...

i like my narrow taste, if i start disliking it, then i shall get different music ;)

Well, that certainly puts my collection to shame! Lots of different stuff there too

Hehe, fair do - once upon a time I was into just pop and rock in a big way...but then again I never used to have many CDs!

Iand because I'm convinced I'm the only one on these boards with the broadest music taste!

Why? Just because the more vocal members of this board may constantly cite their preferences doesn't mean the rest of us don't exist.

I'd love to undertake such a listing exercise but after spending all weekend dragging 30 x 100 capacity CD boxes round with me during my house move I really cannot be asked (at least not until I have unpacked them ;))

Mmmmm, that seems quite narrow minded of you!

! Hard work then!

Ok, maybe my collection is rather dire! But I've always been a poor student!

Perhaps yeah!

Thing is, no one I've ever known could listen to classical or jazz at all. They've always pointed and laughed at my broad music genre, because they could never believe I would also listen to metal, rock, goth, synth pop aswell!

Hm, between my friends and I, we listen to dozens of forms of electronic music, various genres of metal and rock, some banghra and hindi, Korean rap metal, J-pop, some classical, some jazz, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s classics, hip hop, rap... I think there are lots of openminded people around when you get to know them :)

I do'nt believe it's that broad really! I've seen many collections of which yours looks quite small and compact to me. But yeah the taste is ok I guess.

As for myself I have a broad taste in various styles but most of my collection is more 80s retro / pop / New Romantic, goth rock, old / new wave 80s punk, metal, Oi, Rock, alternative, industrial, synth, trance etc you get the picture
