I'm planning to go to Leipzig Festival this year. I've tried to find information on where to get tickets, who's playing, blah, but haven't found anything. Anyone know anything about it?

For hotels either any of the chain hotels are fine for accomodation and reasonable (Holiday Inn,Novotel,Ibis etc,)

For flights you want to fly from Stanstead on the Thursday ideally to Altenburgh and then get a connecting train/cab/bus to Leipzig or we are flying from London City to Frankfurt and getting a connecting flight to Leipzig (its more expensive but I'm lazy).

If you need to know anything else just ask.

the tickets will be soon on sale, when they do, you need to reserve the required amount, then when you get the confirmation, you have to transfere the money into their bank account, which could prove to be a bit of a pain in the butt... you could enquire hwo much it would cost sending it with TNT, if you got a few people who all want to go and share the cost, then it might well be the easier option, unless your bank is good (try nationwide).

i am being a lazy bitch, i let my german relative transfer the money :D

then once transfered, allow about two million days for delivery of the tickets .. or as in my case they never arrived as they got the address wrong, i picked them up at the box office at leipzig, which was fine too because we arrived arly on the thursday.

in terms of hotel, book now!

one of the best hotels to book right now is the holiday inn near the Hauptbahnhof (central train station)

there are tram stations to all sorts of directions just outside including the one that goes directly to two of the venues including the main one (agra halle) and werk 2

room = 86 Eurons per room! per night

travel depending on what flight you take roughly about 80Ł ish

tickets will be in the region of 50 Eurons per person

and food is entirely up to you...

we usually spend very little on food and grab a big breakfast for about 6 Euros per person from a cafe in the city, then feast on cheap beer til we bed ourself again... though you can get very cheap bread rolls filled or unfilled form most bakeries all day and you can get snacks from the stalls at the agra halle, other than that you an get relatively cheapish take aways from greasey spoons, just dont expect fish and chips, expect chicken and fries or kebab or pizza instead.

anyway, as i said if you want to go, you would need to book very very soon, as hotels will be booked out, i fear... even though the festival tickets are not on sale yet.

This event is not to miss! If you buy the "Obsorge Karte" you can use the camping area, which is fun (better have some booze or so with you....sleeping is hard..), use the buses and trams for free and you get a nice little booklet wit the annual CD.

Go and visit the forum which is in German & English, navigation without hassle is guaranteed. You can find dark people who will rent affordable places in their flats during the WGT. Nice way to discover the real Germans! :lol:

The first WGT happened 1992 in the "Eiskeller" in Leipzig. About 1500 people came there. Now about 20.000 from Europe, Asia, Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Amazing, weird and fun! Most of the inhabitants of Leipzig are looking forward to this event, for them it is like a gothic carnival, they are very amused and warm hearted! Police is pretty cool as long as the people are. And they are. No accidents, no fights, just peace. I think it was on the 12th WGT when the management went bankrupt.....the roadies started clearing the stages, security disappeared and police patroled in the area. After the big bang "your money is lost, the festival is over" lots of bands played for free and the visitors of the festival organized a emergency administration. Everybody contributed a few hours to hang around as security at the entrance, to provide information services and first aid and so on. That's the spirit of the scene.

However, if you guys hop over to Leipzig, have fun! I strongly recommend it!!! I am there with a bunch of friends, like every year.

None of those bands appeal, I might watch APB and Kiew, even though Kiews new album is very shite. WAs looking forward to watching GUG , but their new album is garbage.
Compared to previous years I think so far this years WGT has the worst lineup, hopefully some good bands will sign up before it starts.
With regards camping there, if it turns cold and rains it's horrendous, mud everywhere. If it's extremely hot then it aint fun to be in a tent.

btw.. I don't think the line-up is that bad! I don't like any of the theatrical goth bands or future pop acts but there's plenty of noise/industrial acts to keep me entertained for a few days. I'm still waiting for Cold meat industry to be added though..

The accidendt happened due to a problem with the "exhaust pipe". As I was told, they were sleeping and did not notice the problem, that's why they choke on it / got poisoned.


Regarding the tickets - you can already order the cards. As I read, using the busses etc. is now also free with having the "4 Tageskarte". You do not need the "Obsorgekarte" any longer. Only if you wish to camp.

We will be there again with our caravan - it's really more fun instead of staying at a hotel!!!

yes! basically... I do like quite a few of the CMI bands. Deutsch Nepal is great although he is flaky life, to say the least.. but he made me laugh last year! and in Slaughter Natives and Raison d'etre are good too, among others.

I didn't know about the accident last year so I guess they did a good job of covering up the incident as I speak fairly good German and did speak a bit to the locals. I didn't know about the incident at the Blutharsh gig either until I got back to London.. I didn't go to the gig though as I saw them at Slime a few years ago and they made me fall asleep zzzzzzz
