New Cross?

I'm will be in London later in the year and for quite a stay and interested to know about the area 'New Cross', any info on the area as far as rent prices, transport, crime rate etc would be much appreciated.

It's South of the River, south east to be precise. Rent prices are ok, Crime rate is reasonable, as far as transport goes it's on the east london line and also on the south eastern line. And Carter sang a song about it which involved the crusties, the greebos and the goths.

There's a good goth record store in New Cross called Grave News. Never been into the shop mind, just bought things online from them, but prices are pretty reasonable - http://www.gravenewsltd.com

Actually I think you will find the Carter video was shot in the Venue , which happens to be in New Cross.
