I know that this is a well discussed subject and wanted to hear the opinions of others on it, and the type of people who give the abuse, as their is already a discussion in a seperate forum regarding the types of people who should not be allowed in Slimelight.
Hey when your running around on a bike thats weeing oil everywhere everyones shouting at you. On general I get the most grief from taxi and bus drivers and twats on flying hair dryers (scooters to the layman). On foot I just look like any other courier and seem to get away with the most insane behavoiur and not have anyone give a dam. Right of the courier I guess.

most of the abuse that i get seems to be shouted from the windows of pasing white vans... a little stereotypical i know, but that's the way it seems to happen.
i've been attacked once, but that wasn't too serious as it was just a bunch of (unarmed) 16 year old kids in Vauxhall. they seemed confused by fighting back...

Incidences with 'men in white vans', seem to be coming more common...
...maybe their baseball caps are hiding a lack of brain...

and usually a lack of hair if their cries of "hippy" aimed at me are anything to go by! kinda ironic.

Strange, I get more comments or am more worried in Camden, than when I was in the East End. I never got hassle there, they tried, but somehow didn't really happen. Where as I hear so many alternatives get real abuse there, like spitting and throwing things. Ya just never know.

I live in the East End and used to get loads of hassle (especially when I had my hair long, people calling me "poof","faggot" and other unimaginative names),but since I started wearing a lot of leather of shaved the sides of my head and got a few piercings, people now leave me well alone!! if anything a lot of them are quite nice to me now heheh.

hehe, I just looked pissed off all the time. Partly for living in Bethnal Green, total crap area there. Now that I met K, I don't have that same look to keep people away, but I am trying to attain it again because it makes a difference! :D
And you still never said hello.

I know what you mean about Bethnal Green,my friend lived there for a while and the one thing that springs to mind about the place is how ugly the hookers were, seriously I have never been approached by so many prostitutes anywhere in London.I'm sorry but I really can't think of anything better to say about the place

Hahahaa...and IF they were goodlooking??? Oh dear :o
Lots of gangs there. They could have got me if they wanted, but I seemed to confuse them somehow, and I saw the sames one almost everyday.

hmph....all I ever seem to encounter is the reandom eggings at my local coffee haus......well, that and I was getting some really nasty looks from people after the Columbine incident a few years back (I tend to wear trenchcoats)
I live in Dulwich (South London) and i get shouted at most days (i know what you mean about the white vans), but i've also been mugged at gunpoint (on my birthday!(they took 50p. they didn't bother to take/search my bag:P) and when I was with a friend some drunk townies headbutted him (both times the police told us there was nothing they could do. bah, humbug.)

if you are getting regular abuse, then you're not looking scary and/or mad enough
try working on improving those aspects of your image
works for me

I don't dress the way I used to but I used to often got name calling...the usual 'fagget' and whatever. One time after a night at Jilly's in Manchester a group of lads kicked off on me. It was only me and my now ex-fiance so obviously there was nothing she could do. I was unconcious for a few minutes. She manged to stop them coming back while I was down to give me more of a kicking.
These people are just narrow minded fuckwits who think that people that dress in certain ways are weired simply because they are different to themselves.

not long ago i saw a boy i know with a mohawk and leather trench coat being followed by a group of 12 year old townies, who were taking the piss and shouting names at him. the boy ignored them until one of the kids ran up and poked him in the back, at which point he whipped round, produced a huge iron bar from out of no where and raised it above his head, screaming at the kids to come get some. of course they pegged it as fast as there little legs would carry them and i stood with my jaw hanging open. the boy then tucked the bar away and walked past me, the picture of composure, shrugged and said "what can you do?" as if this was a normal occurence for him. it probably was aswell, that was not a old piece of lead piping but a huge retractable marshal arts weapon, god knows how he got hold of it. i'm sure the townies will think twice before giving him grief again though.

except that one time when i was sitting there trying tp count the money in my hand hoping it would become more so i could buy a take-away and some guy took my phone, and then he gave it back when i asked for at least the sim-card.......it's a funny world

Can't agree more with that really. That kinda stuff happened on a regular basis in Scunny and I've had a few beatings (never a fair match either which is typical of these scummy assclowns!). The worst moment was when about five lads surrounded me and my mate after we'd gone to meet two female friends at a bar they were at and were walking them back to my mate's place. The lads approached making some bull up about us doing something to one of the lad's cousins. Before I could explain that I knew nothing one punched me and then the whole lot of em joined in. Soon it got worse as they phoned friends up (some boy racers) and about five of six cars ended up at the scene full of more townies/trendies and of course they all decided to take pops too. Soon it was complete mayhem and I jumped a gate n hedge into someones garden then pounded on the door for help. I got out of it with a bloody nose and a few cuts n bruises but my friend had been kicked while down n was shaken up pretty bad. He had mental scarring from that incident and refused to go out for months :?
In the end they all got away with it since most were covered by scarfs and baseball caps or hoods.
Only had one incident in Camden (my only London incident) which involved being headbutted by a junkie and he bent my piercing. I can no longer remove my spike from my labret screw. Nothing serious and he was doing it to various ppl not just myself so go figure.
It's a strange world we live in but we seem to get by. I have less problems now I have martial art style tape glove n finger tape stuff as part of my look. They must think I do some sort of martial arts/combat training stuff or something lol

"white van men" are rthe only form of on-going abusers nowadays, i thinkl the bulk of teh public are becoming used to the fact the people will dress differently and not give a shit.
also noticed that teh undercut and less grunger/gothy peoples get less hassle.
i nowadays get little chav kids trrying to talk to me, and random weirdos wanting to touch my funky hair, i seem to get the opposite to abuse now :?:

I get abuse once or twice a week from some normally Adidas kitted out kids. It's not because of the way I dress, I rarely go out all black, but they still like to do it, but only when they're in groups.
Spineless....
I won't say.

went to slimelight a couple of weekends ago and as we were walking around london (don't know where as I'm from Manchester) got followed by a load of scalleys (as we call them). They started throwing empty glass bottles at us and shouting abuse. Unfortunately there were also more of them so we didn't have much chance if they started on us. We started to run because we really didn't fancy getting battered and luckily a taxi drove pass and agreed to take all 7 of us (even though it was a black cab) out of the area. Don't know what would've happened if he hadn't turned up :(

It's awful that you had problems in London it's really unfortunate. I've managed so far to avoid it probably because of people who've lived here ages telling me where not to go. I know it can hapen anywhere if it's just the wrong place and wrong time...like I've said before I actually feel more afraid of going back to my town of birth than being in London...that says it all!
...oh and yeah Lemontwist I second your comment that was one cool Grandma Fad had! :D

Glad to hear you haven't let it put you off - I find London, generally, to be the most cosmopolitan part of the UK I have ever been to. I get abuse on the streets of Chelmsford (where I live) just for being a Goth, let alone cross-dressing. In London I've found that people actually come up to me and talk to me BECAUSE I'm a Goth, and are generally interested in what it is/means. I've never had any abuse/nasty comments in London (I mean CENTRAL London when I say 'London') about being a Goth, though the cross-dressing does still cause that kind of thing sometimes, even there....
Starbucks is OK after Slime, but you have to be patient - it can take a long time to get that coffee!

I'm not so sure about that...Slime closes at 7:30 am, which is when the tubes start running. The coffee shop in question, Starbucks, opens at 8 (or 8:30, I can't quite remember).
What time do you normally leave Slime? Personally I've found that I'm better off staying in Slime til closing rather than heading off early (unless I have a friends to head back to), as otherwise I have the same problem as yourself, sitting and waiting for public transport to start up again *yawn*
It's the second Starbucks on the left up Upper Street. Just follow the trail of Slimers when the club shuts!
It opens at 8am, but occasionally they open it a little bit earlier.

i usually leave about 6am, so i guess i only have myself to blame! I will be more hardcore next time and stay till the very end, it will be worth it when i have a sip of the glorious beverage that is tea ...mmmm :D
foofoo, did you know that you can buy both tea & coffee in Slimes too? Tis a fantastic idea and definately the drink of choice when coming into the wee hours :)
If I'm starting to peter out t'wards the end of the night I'll usually go & prop myself up at the bar/sit somewhere with a cup of tea/coffee...as this usually does the trick.

Only thing with Starbucks is I don't see a proper cuppa on sale it's some weird named thing (no surprise there) and I have no clue what it actually is. Have a feeling it's some herbal concoction but I dunno.
Not a coffee person so I go for the hot choc menus...oh and a panini too coz I tend to work, or should I say dance, up an appetite :)
