I used to stay in London and have been back since, I am now plannin a trip for me and a group of friends. I know a bit more about the scene down south of late and it is alot more friendlier than up here. I am eager to visit the clubs in London, expecially Slimelight, as the clubs here can't care to the alternative tastes and continue to play utter crap regardless of the people's requests. If anyone has any tips or advice, feel free to share and it will be much appreciated, thanks.

And can yu explain this Rivet thing>? I apologise for bein slow on the uptake, but if yu don't ask yu won't know and theirs no harm askin, right>?

Dress 'alternative' and you'll get in OK. Black's always good
They normally let non-members in OK, especially if you look the part, but if you have any trouble just ask in the queue and a member will probably sign you in.
The 'rivet' thing refers to fans of that noisy industrial stuff... bunch of weirdos :D :D :D

If the "noisy Industrial stuff" refers to Ministry (one of my favourite bands of all time) and the like, then I guess I count myself among the congregation... strange tho, the scene here, there are not enough Industrial fans to classify. It is not a big sub-genre this side of the border. By the general masses our scene are "Goffs" and "Moshas"... amongst the scene not many are actually Goths in the traditional sense of the word, i.e Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy etc etc... Moshers is a term that no one uses as far as I know. There are the Wiggas who call themselves "Thugs" who listen to rap and metal and dress in that style. The Emo's are many and completely identical to one another. Skaters aren't as numerous as they once were and the Hardcore/Straightedge has became popular. But EBM/Psytrance/Industrial/Darkwave are all virtually unheard of as they aren't on Kerrang or the radio. The Nu-Metal scene appears to be dead but their are still Gimps who know the one track that is popular of a band and then think they are a member of some elite... I pity them, rather than hate them like so many I know do, as their intentions (expecially among the young) are noble and I tend to have alot of time for them as I too, like everyone was I suppose, one of them and I dare not be a hypocrtie. So unless they are Posers (which is often the case) and rely on their friends knowledge to justify their quick rise to some popularity structure that shoulden't exist in the first place, I have no problems introducin them to the tunes I am into or even listenin to their suggestions. Safe to say, the "alternatives" have escaped to create a mirrored reflection to the mainstream they hate and fear. I have been outside this scene since it became apparent that it was no longer about the similarities and ideals we shared but what attention can be benefitted from common pain and ordinary teenage strife. Whoa>! this has turned into a bit of a wrant... oops, too bad>! Well there is a lil insight for yu all hehe

im afraid it doesnt. the second floor is currently under occupation by people who listen to EEVIL NOIZE! we do not plan to leave soon. you may look at other topics in this forum to see that the religion of EEVIL NOIZE is all about. but ministry aint being played upstairs, oh no

no cheers brighton and its clubs is grim enough... no NOIZE
trouble, no dont have to expect trouble... just dont cross the rivets!!!!
which means, if you see a maniac stomping, looking stern and not making much eyecontact, leave it as that and have fun not getting into her/their way... then everything will be fine ;)
oh and if you see somebody who tries to avoid others by going to the edge of the dancefloor and who aims not to injure the other dancers with fists and hand chops, then also, stay out of range, smile friendly but non threatening and things will be as peachy as at a mediteranean orchard ;)
lasty, dont stare too obvious... some of the more sexier specimen of the fmelae population hang out at the slime, if you drool too much, you might upset their boyfriends ;)

And yes I have noticed by scouring the gallery that their is indeed a ton of very, very attractive females, who coincedentally have boyfriends... TERRIBLE. Lucky bastards...

This is actually rubbish ... the top floor plays quite a wide range of stuff. If this needs any justification, just read old threads where these "rivett-burgers" winge their arses off about the "non-eeevil-noize" played there.
Invariably, Mak does the last hour or so ... and he plays a great variety of stuff that isn't all noize.

yes which sucks dog's cocks when it happens but the amount of noise played upstairs increases and the NOIZE lovers seem to grow in numbers... in other words they actualy turn up and dance and the more noise played in the future the more sexy millitia people will actualy appear and dance and have a good time.
i seriously hope that i wont get into a fight this friday when they got the local goth club night on in brighton, as i am really sick of chavs getting into my way when i dance... why the fuck do they think that looking at their white trainers and tracksuits is at all pleasant and why the hell do they think doing pretend sex dances (usually females) would add to the entertainment...
dont get me started on chavs and nightclub boredom otherwise i can go off in a serious rant.
i am just glad that slimelight is a place where they play noise and not just cheese and i would seriously love it if it had more dedicated noise and harsh industrial ebm nights, rather than ibiza shit playing attracting more fucking chavs, who shoudlnt be there in the first place...
i started to become a london regular, even though i live in brighton cos i was sick and tired of waiting the whole evening for a reasonable track or having to whinge at the DJs all the time to play maybe one or two good grooves, and then boredom, even stay of alcohol, so i can drive myself home again ....
i am now contemplating going up to manchester on a regular basis (Implant) as i really dont wanna bother with trad goth and future pop and trance err.. i mean ebm anymore... it bores me.
after all futurepop and the like gets played a lot on the mixed (middle) floor too, plus its much darker and intense UV light should ensure cyb0r goth happiness, so why bother with it on the top floor?
 :x 8O :? 8)
and dont get me wrong, i still think slimelight is so far the best nightclub i have ever been to and that is exactly whay i keep turning up every weekend :D

The music at Slimes does get a bit "same old, same old" and it seems very little is done to combat this. DJs Matt (from Implant) and Francesca seem to be the only ones trying to be fresh and new on the top floor.

This question of the music mixture does come up a lot, about both floors. It just highlights the fact that the audience at Slimelight are too varied to please all of the time, so most people will have to put up with the fact they won't get their favourite type of music all of the time.
There are probably specialist nights around, catering for each particular kind of music only, but personally I think I'd find that a bit dull, and let's face it - it wouldn't be Slimelight would it?
It's quite hard for DJs to introduce new stuff, because as an audience we mostly tend to like what we know, but they must introduce new stuff or the set list would be the same now as it was 10 years ago.
I really enjoy the mixture of music and people at Slimelight. So there :P

Surprisingly there are not any dedicated noise nights in London,I think the closest you'll get would be Sick N Twisted once a month.I wouldn't want noise music all night either as I like quite a bit of traditional EBM stuff too. Also if Slime were a dedicated noise night it'd mean that many of my friends wouldn't bother with the place.

Flux Ibiza... well i think he can do a bit more than ibiza and if i had it my own way he will have that base burst our eardrums.
i go along with the selection above, which is what i mean by harsher EBM which would fit so nicely onto the top floor surounded by noise and EEVIL NOIZE
also occasional very hard dance would be acceptable but please please please no future pop. and i still vote for dedicated noise nights.

yes mixed with harsh EBM as mentioned before,, that would be really good i mean bottom floor trad, middle soft ebm, future pop, everything that is beeing played there btu no trad and top floor seriously industrial stuff.. sounds like a plan to me and we would all be able to get what we like i guess

I'd prefer it if the NOIZE floor was at the bottom, would feel less like mountaineering moving between the two floors. How about if the old very top floor (the old goth floor from years ago was made into a chill out room properly?

Yep, the old (very) top floor has an inadequate fire escape.

How about if the old very top floor (the old goth floor from years ago was made into a chill out room properly?

erm, and why dont they fix the fire escape exactly?
Erm ... it's not broken ... it's just inadequate ... I think it was something like an odd 50K that was required, from what I was told. So, why bother when you can just open another floor?! 8)

military style i hope ;)
no but seriously there are plenty of other people who like loads of diverse music, so once youre swept onto the slimelight shore you might find plenty of music to enjoy...
... though the noise bunch is growing at an frightfully exciting rate :D

Your ecletic enthusiasm is assuring. I am so used to music listeners here being so close minded in their tastes; alternative here means strictly Metal, Punk or Emo normally. I listen to Ambient, EBM, Industrial, Metal, Psytrance, Darkwave, Ethereal, Sixties Rock, Deathpop, Doom, Futurepop bands. I never like everything in a genre but like certain bands throughout all music. Oh well>!

Sounds like a very sensible, healthy attitude, to me.
