I recently picked up the new Nightwish album "Once". I have to say I enjoyed this album a lot. All the music is over the top and extremly theatrical. It's accompained by a full orchestra, The London Session Orchestra.
The standout track on this album is called Creek Mary’s Blood.
It contains narration from a Native American and the music and vocals are so over-the-top, one has to listnen to it to to appreiate the beauty of this track. In my opinion it's the best one on the album.
If anyone hasn't heard of this band, I suggest you pick up this CD and try it out.
I have other releases by this band and I have to say this is my favorite, hands down.
All comments on this band/CD are welcome.

Nemo seems to doing quite well as the single. Gets quite a decent response on the dancefloor too.

I saw Nightwish this year and last year...both times they were excellent. I heard from someone they're returning early next year again so I shall be finding out about that ASAP.
One of my tutors last year, Pip Williams, did the choral and orch. arrangements for 'Once' and he's in the slideshow on the 'Nemo' single (one with the photo Gallery not the one with the music video). I was so pleased he'd worked with them on it...gives him something else to talk about other than Status Quo and Motown lol :)

Though art tempted by the Italian Goth-rocksters? I was until I realised the tickets are Å18 and I barely know the other bands on the bill...

Yay. I used to really like Lacuna Coil. Remind me to run you off a copy of In A Reverie, tis a good album. Methinks you'll like :)
As for those other bands, I've heard of Chimaira before but no idea what they sound like. Could be proper rubbish for all I know.

firstly, in a reverie is fantastic, not just good :)
secondly, caliban and in flames are kind of hardcore euro-metal, kind of scream-y eardrum splitting riffage and chimaira are their lesser (but still good) american counterparts
i'd like to go but icant get the time off work, what with not being allowed holiday time at xmas (WTF??)
