One of my close friends is both a Slime regular and a habitual wearer of all white cyber stuff and he's never had any problems getting past the door staff as far as I'm aware (well not for his dress sense anyway)....so no white's not a problem, if you're a 'weirdo' you can wear whatever the hell you like!!:)

white is fine but be careful where you tread/lean/sit because the last time I wore all white I was covered in black/brown/grey/red stains!. These aren't noticed as much if you wear black.

Wise words - it can get filthy in there with spilt drinks etc. (I hope it's ONLY spilt drinks ... I don't want to think about the alternatives)

I wish it was just drinks... but as far as i'm aware, people don't tend to spill drinks over the walls/ceilings, which seem to be just as damp and slimy as the floor.

So if you want to come to Slimes in white please do - you won't look too out of place - but do be prepared for a large cleaning bill.

the last two times i've gone to slimes i've worn white and it's not been an issue....AND i've managed to stay clean :D

two saturdays ago i wore a marilyn monroe/gothic lolita type night dress slip thing which was white with lace trim and it was fine :) though my boyfriend did comment that i looked like a human glowstick on the dancefloor :?

no, no-one must wear white.ever.especially not blink, cos whenever he turns up in white i feel like a tom cat looking out the window at another cat in his dustbin... I AM THE HUMAN LIGHTBULB AND NONE MAY MOCK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i did actually wear black two weeks ago, and silver the month before.
as far as staying clean goes, i'm usually spotless until 5 30, then some arse will say, 'you're not clean anymore!' and put his shoes on me, or 'accidentally' spill drink over me...the turd.i'm going to collect dandruff and sprinkle it all over the goths...

A thought: wear whatever you feel comfortable in and in whatever way expresses your self best. The alternative culture is meant to portray forms of individuality - so lets not try and follow everyone else as concerns dress code or ask for approval..

Well said! 8) It's a shame that the so-called alternative "scene" is often as rigid in it's perception of what is acceptable in terms of garments as any other.

Exactly - In an instance such as this with regard to something as menial as clothing-what to wear and what not to wear-..what of the mind set then..or does that have to follow a 'set in stone' fallacy as well. *blah* enough said. *becomes feisty*

White is great for full-on glow. Let's face it, on the dancefloor we all look ridiculous, it's just that some people carry off ridiculousness better than others. Being super glowy is great, but give off too much light and the flies will gather.

Err....maybe I've got the complete wrong end of the stick here, and as I live at the other end of the Country, I wouldn't be a bit surprised....however, I thought Electrowerkz was used as a paintballing place during the day, hence the 'slime'?! Maybe I'm just dense and hearing things!!!

White is a bloody scary colour!! Or... non... colour... *shakes head to clear confuzzlement*. Thats why I stick to black. But people do wear white to slimes... still want to know who that lass was in the white pvc nurses thing... hmm. want to know where she got it from and does it come in black and my size?

Anyway... wear white if ya like, just make it tasteful ;)

Err....maybe I've got the complete wrong end of the stick here, and as I live at the other end of the Country, I wouldn't be a bit surprised....

Unfortunately, yes, you have. Slimelight is an old club and pre-dates the invention of paintballing by a few years if I'm correct. The name is taken as a slur on the name of another nightclub called The Limelight. It was owned by Peter Stringfellow and was very popular with townies and celebrities in the 80s. Slimelight came into being at a similar time, but the difference was in the style of music and quality of clientelle.

(Fad, etc... Feel free to post corrections to this.)

I believe that the paintball has become a sideline over the years, as has airsoft (that's paintball with solid plastic shot instead of paint, kids). The asvantage of airsoft is that virtually every model of hand-held firearm ever made has been converted to airsoft form, which gives it the appeal of 'realism'. Also, there's no crap to clean off the walls following the games.

www.arniesairsoft.com has more information on this particular sport.

Back on the subject of white clothes... Just be aware that whatever you wear will need dry-cleaning afterwards. Even the white shirts that I wear occasionally come back with grey cuffs and a greasy feeling to them.

You've been warned!

I've safely worn white to slimes before. You just have to be careful of where you sit, what walls you lean against and stay clear of dark drinks!

You can get away with any colour btw, its the style that matters! ie. Not townie, chav....

Just wear silver.. everyone wears silver nowadays, 'cause all the chavs wear black... if you wear black, you probably won't get in anymore.

...and now a random fact about Vin Diesel:

Vin Diesel is better known throughout the universe as the Silver Surfer. Galactus is better known on Earth as Bill Gates.

Sad, perhaps, and maybe a little 'wrong', maybe, but the wearing of black is something some of us have been naturally comfortable in, for years... I can understand that with any Scene, it will attract those who come 'in' far, far later and have not a clue as to what a particular 'Scene' is all about (I viewed later Punk Rockers with disdain for 'getting it all wrong'; I was a 2nd Generation Punk of the August 1976-April 1977 school) and the terrible thing is that 'the mass' may and do invade 'Scenes' when Scenes have been 'going' for sometime, which in a sense is the nature of the beast - prominence and exposure are the worst enemies of any Scene. I like black, mainly, as it is 'me' and has been, since I was 18 - I am 45, now, and really don't give a damn if it is 'passe', as I can also understand jaded minds.

I am perhaps the only (for want of a term) 'Scooter Goth' in all of London, as I have seen no others of 'my kind'; I ride a black and red Lambretta, move in the general 'Sixties' Scene, like a lot of it (I have been into Sixties music since age 11, but in particular prefer the 'dark' Sixties sounds, of which there is so much, believe me...) but do find that most in 'my' Scene are ultra-straight in a way that I reject and feel uncomfortable with. I am disliked by some who also ride scooters for what I am, but then my private 'joke' is to turn the whole thing on its head and 'bastardise it', by the way I have fashioned my machine and my image - yes, you may see me whizzing by Slimes on Saturday nights with my 'devil' numberplate flashing (LUI 9666), the vampire bat on my headset and the 2 chrome skulls on the rear-end saying 'up yours' to all and sundry, particularly those in 'my scene'. Black is a preference (I also like midnight blue, red, mauve and even white, but always with black as the main component of dress). I would love to visit Slimes eventually, but do have doubts as to whether I would be let in. I can only but try...

PS: If anyone wants a chat, sometime, feel free to email me - my preferred meeting place would be The Ben Crouch Tavern, Well Street (Off Oxford Street) as it is a lovely pub and I feel comfortable, there - I am still steeling myself to pay the initial £8. for Slimelight (first visit) and this pub is free entry and just the price of however many drinks you can afford, lodged in your pocket...

well you are not the only one whos lifesryle choice was goth for a long time.. i have to admit i was hanging out with the punkrovk crew before goth was invented in germany but i found the german punkrockers not such a good bunch and some of them, which really cheesed me off worked for banks and the police. but back to the 80ies when i was tolf off by my parents for constantly wearing black ... well, i am a bit younger than you but not by all that much. i went to a club then and if it wasnt for the fact that it was smaller than slimelight and had much cleaner toilets then i would say that it was like slimelight and like a lot of slimelight people, i went there when i was way too young and sometimes couldnt get in ;)

anyway white wearing bemuses me, though i have sometimes worn a white shirt, which is rare though. mt favourite colour being such a rivet is of course gun metal ;)

industrial music has been with me since the early days of DAF, i still smile when der mussolini is played at slimelight.

not sure if you would like the music at slimelight, as i am not aware of any 60ies music and quite frankly i am unsure as to why you feel the urge to go to slimelight on one hand but then wanting to meet people elsewhere...

Hi There, Snoww White;

Don't get me wrong: I do want to visit Slimes, and, although I don't know much about the 21st century strain of Thrash-metal etc, I know that I like what I hear when I hear it (old Punks never die - fractured chords forever!); I remember viewing a post here, where someone advised a newbie to visit 'The York' pub beforehand, meet some Slimelight people before going, for the first time - I am cursed with a 1963 machine where things go wrong or things need to be added/changed, relieving me sometimes of the cash to get into Slimes ha-ha!) - White is an excellent colour and so is black (monochrome is always to good effect, however used) - All black is always effective but depending upon what is worn, or it can look rather 'samey', I agree - I tend to use another colour with it either as a small hankie in top pocket, or socks, which is striking and subtle and dramatises the overall black even more... Oh no, Sixties (dark & doomy Sixties such as The Zombies, Them, Yardbirds, Garage Girl Group, Psyche, Freakbeat, mean Surf/HotRod etc) is a main preoccupation, but I also love the sounds that I hear which I could imagine would be played, here - Besides which, Slimelight seems like a place of interesting people who have 'made themselves free' and really don't give a damn for the sake of expression, which is what reaches me, too. I will be visiting, and probably will do the sensible thing and pop into The York, first - As for 'Chaves' & 'Townies'; I have no liking for them, either, as they are the ones who are born, die, and follow slavishly all the directives of controlled-life in-between, and they are also the ones who damage and spit on the scooters of those like me, probably frustratedly as they cannot express themselves and fear the outward expression of others who are not 'controlled' or media-led, like they are.Burburry? Ugh. The kind of thing which creates those who are 'free' enough to dare, in dress, attitude and lifestyle. I laugh, knowing that I wouldn't park my machine outside Slimes, as the 'Chavs' or 'Townies' who are kicked out would love my machine to maul! I normally wear hunting jackets in midnight blue or black (with white or blue hunting stocks) and will certainly have time for anyone who has the remotest time for me...
