That is a major blow to the alternative music scene. This man opened many doors for extreme music and he championed small independant record labels. I remember listening to his Radio 1 show years ago and he was playing everything from dub to Japanese noise.

John Peel, you will be greatly missed.

Yes he will be greatly missed. I just don't think there are many people out there who are so open-minded to all forms of music. Just the other day I listened to him playing everything from drum'n'bass to black metal to his 40s rispy stuff he used to play..

he was a true pioneer..

For those who hadn't heard of the man (I hope it's very few of you), this is a list of the bands he had session for him from the 90's onwards. I couldn't get an earlier list. It'll give you an idea want he has done for the music that is played at Slimes...whatever the genre.

I always respected the fact that he would listen to everything and give everyone a chance. He opened the minds of many people.

john peel was one of the most opened minded people anywhere in the music business... there is no one out there who can even come close to being an adequate replacement, especially not that mongy twat, zane lowe off mtv... he bugs me!

John Peel, RIP in the great radio show in the sky!
