Previous to what has been reported by some webistes as to the release date for this film in the UK, I saw the advert for it on TV last night and it will be out on Oct. 1 (this weekend). And I will be in Germany .....fuck it........

I really want to go see that film.

Apparently Ster in Norwich aren't showing it as 'we don't really show horror movies'.

Right. So I imagined seeing Dawn of the Dead, Freddy vs Jason and umpteen other bloody films at your cinema then.

What they really mean is "we don't show films made by small companies with sensible budgets and we can't be bothered to go to the distributer".

That REALLY annoys me!

Yeah that gets me too why certain companies refuse to play smaller budget films. Hey at least Shepherds Bush Vue are showing late night Bubba Ho Tep! :D

Well, they ended up showing it.... (st00pid desk clerks), and I thought it was very cool. Will be purchasing it on DVD in order to freak out my weaker-stomached friends....

Can we have some sensible reviews, "Blair Witch" has really put me off any "hyped" horror/thriller film ever.

Blair Witch...huh...what a pile of shite that turned out to be. Still I don't really care if some of the critics love or hate stuff because I see a film if I think it interests me. If I like it I'm happy and if it's not any good...well I just have to get over it :P ...
Saying that if practically EVERY critic slams it as utter crap then I'll not pay to see it of course.

I liked Blair Witch.I know I'm a minority but if you take away all the hype (which is pretty easy as Public Enemy once said "Don't Believe The Hype")it's not such a bad film.

I'd go further....I'd say Blair Witch was a damn fine film...in fact probably the best horror sine the exorcist. I know many, many will disagree but they'd be wrong...objectively it is a well made, tightly paced and innovative piece of 'ground-breaking' celluloid (OK!Video!)...it just requires some input from the viewer to appreciate it.
The argument that it was 'over-hyped' may be true...but that merely meant it confounded/failed to meet peoples expectations, it doesn't make the essential film unworthy, and I think even the 'hype' is original and worthy of praise for trying something different.
The main problem I believe people had was that it turned out not to be 'real'....get over it, Starwars wasn't real either...neither was Citizen Kane! 'Suspension of disbelief' doesn't go out of the door just because of a marketing gimmick....and if 'Saw' turns out to be a fraction as original or truly scary as BW I'll eat my baseball-cap.

The best way to descirbe Saw is it's like Se7en in style, a very dark film, but has a lot more suspense in it than Se7en did. Quite a few moments to make you jump (or in my case, make my boyf jump and *really* piss me off), quite a few sick ways in which people kark it, and most importantly the huge twist at the end.

The acting isn't exactly fantastic, the main guy I've only ever seen in 'Hot Shots' and the younger dude is the director as well. But to be honest you don't really need great acting in this film, as most of the plot is developed through little things happening and flashes to cops figuring stuff out (and getting killed in nasty ways  )

So there's a kind of review type thingy. And I managed all that without actually ruining the plot too. *g*

to balance opinions, I'll just post this review:
http://efilmcritic.com/review.php?movie=8560&reviewer=364

that review is too harsh but it's not too far from the truth unfortunately.
The characters really do some of the dumbest things, ok you could expect that from the typical teen who's going to get slaughtered but not from a supposedly doctor or a professionnaly trained cop.
it's got a good ambience/nice settings though

I was keen to see saw (see-saw?) before it came out - I guess the trailers did their job. Once a few people I knew, and whose tastes I understood, had seen it though, it put me off - I'll probably see it on DVD now, so I can form my own opinion.

Whilst I can appreciate that Blair Witch is technically a very good movie (especially given the budget involved), I just found the characters too annoying to let myself feel involved in the film. That may be as much a criticism of me, as one of the film, but it still stopped me from enjoying it too much. It may have been a different story if I'd seen it on the big screen though - I think that would have added to the atmosphere. And, to be fair, that's the medium it was designed for.

no offense to anyone, but i thought that blair witch was shite. and thats not even anything to do with the hype that was built up around it.
