Am i the only one who is bothered by the fact that the shout box is censored??

Do you feel we have the right to swear when logged in?

Do you prefer the tone to be polite and civil??

Only one way to find out..................

Fine for members, but what about kids looking at the site?!

We can swear here though!

Like the forums, the shout box is only readable once logged in.

Yeah, your right actually!

In that case, I don't know why they bothered censoring it!

Ahh, who give a fuck!!

Why does nobody understand that its almost gaurenteed that they didnt bother to censor it (and not the forums), it just happened, as a random undesired result of such a complex system as a nuke portal?

Oh, and what experiment causes those side effects? sounds fun :).

Kelx,

Albert discovered ACID!!

Here's the full extract (couldn't fit it all in my signature!):

I suddenly became strangely inebriated. The external world became changed as in a dream. Objects appeared to gain in relief; they assumed unusual dimensions; and colors became more glowing. Even self-perception and the sense of time were changed. When the eyes were closed, colored pictures flashed past in a quickly changing kaleidoscope. After a few hours, the not unpleasant inebriation, which had been experienced whilst I was fully conscious, disappeared. What had caused this condition?

I think you are confusing lack of interest with lack of understanding.

And why was it undesired, is your vocabulary so limited that you cannot function without resorting to the vulgar and the vernacular?

I'll admit interest is minimal, even mine, Im just trying to explain to the few who do seem to care, but dont seem to understand / read / believe me.

I have no interest in being able to swear in either the forums or shout box, but the "undesirable" was because I somehow doubt that the slimes webmaster desired, and sat down deliberatly to create, a situation where one box is censored and the other isnt, which is, sadly, what people imagine was the intention, and are rightly puzzled over it.

Webmasters are not all gods, especially when dealing with box-of-presets type software, its often more dificult to get a box-of-presets type system to perform as you want, than writing the whole thing from scratch. Not that Im putting down the slimes webmaster, the site is rather impressive considering its a nuke portal, but it could still benifit from a completely new custom writen solution :). Not goina happen obviously, but it would fix many tiny errors like the censorship, various font iregularities, the differing smilies on the forums and shout box (which incidentally are all hideously ugly), etc.

Must confess, I do find the smilies on here a bit disappointing.

*shrugs* what ya gonna do?

Blink,

I like to be able to choose. that's all.

I think personal choice of words is a basic right not a priviledge. :)

Out of interest Kelx, do you believe in self-censorship? i.e. do you censor yourself in certain circumstances, or do you just always use the words you want?

True, and no-one is denying you your right to chose whatever words you like, they are merely (selectively) protecting my right not to have to read words which are, in the general populous, considered inappropriate.

But is that applicable here on this site Blink where the general populous of this site may be a little more open minded with regard to colourful language?

I was

a) (suprise suprise) being slightly sarcastic
b) Addressing a larger issue of the fact that although someone may have the right to do something, they do not, necessarily, have the right to force other people to experience the consequences of those actions. (The best example of this, I think, is smoking, I have no issue with people smoking, but surely my right not to inhale dangerous fumes is more important than someone's right to smoke....I would never support an all-out ban on smoking, merely that people should have to "opt in" to a smokey environment, as opposed to "opt out")
c) It would be fine if there was a warning when you joined the site
d) I really actually don't give that much of a fuck about this pissing stupid wanky-bollox of an issue, and I am just too far up my own arse, and am a complete prick who justy likes annoying the fuck out of the other tossers on this board
