The Birds, Rashomon, Forbidden Planet, Old Boy, Metroplolis

Aaaaargh!!!

OK, succesful remakes -
The Thing (on the list) was re-made by John Carpenter, but was fantastic when it came out in the eighties.
Seven Samurai, became The Maginficent Seven, one of my favourite films.
Even Yojimbo was re-made as A Fistful of Dollars.
All these remakes were by great directors and with charismatic actors, although I suppose the real star of The Thing was the effects.

And yes, my blood boiled the instant I saw Akira on the list, it is of course just to the side of centre (apparently the first place the eyes look).

?Forbidden Planet? - Isn't that Tempest?

Makes you wonder if the screen writers strike is the cause or the effect of the number of remakes.

i swear hollywood writers are just getting lame, the only films you see comming from there are either re-makes or based on graphic novels (since they already have the script and the story board...) oh and ocasionally you find sequals

originality has left the west a while ago, eastern cinema is better for that, you see a few original ideas there, but even so theres still a lack of originality there at times, especially since eastern cinema is trying to replicate the sucess of western cinema by employing the same techniques, which, by the way, dont work...

i do worry for the future of film at times
