See it

It has that great quirky, surreal feel to it (I kept thinking of Northern Exposure). It is dark and menancing, but not, and it is beautiful but disturbed.

See it

Great film

Seen it, watched it again, talked about it probably more than any other film ... still confused about it!

Who was Frank? ... Did he travel through time to show Donnie the portals, or was the whole thing a dream of what could have happened? ...Still not sure!

Bizarre!!!!

I have the DVD - it has missing scenes which are narrated and explain in more depth and clarity what was actually going on (that's why they took them out). I won't spoil it for you, but i recommend you check out the website. I'm sure I'll see you both tonight.

Is that in the special features on the DVD, or are they just included in the cut? I have only seen the DVD version

Alas I won' t be out tonight, but will be next week

That would be in the special features, as I don't think they wanted to narrate the scenes during the movie ;-) also there are some hidden features which you can find (e.g. pushing "right" while you have a certain option selected.) It's quite intruiging, i'm sure you'd be shocked to find out who Frank is. It opens up a whoel new range of questions.

I can see myself having some fun with this?

Can you access hidden features on a PC, or is it just DVD players?

Sound intriguing indeed. My flatmate has the DVD, so I'll have to check out those scenes etc.

It works on a PC provided your DVD plalyer software uses a 'right' button, which I think they all do. You can just enter 'Donnie Darko' in a search engine and find the 'cheats' for the DVD. The website is confusing, but it allows you to read parts of the book written by 'Grandma Death'. I'm off to Slimelight now... bya :-)

Ok, seen the film.....Loved it!!

Watched the hidden scenes.........Very useful.

But one last query....... on the DVD box it says 'contains hidden easter eggs'

Where?

What are these eggs they tease me with talk of?

Has anyone else managed to locate these?

On the subject of head twisting movies has anyone watched "Death Watch"? Any opinions?

I've got to admit, I rate it fairly highly, myself - that whole crossing genres - horror & war and the twisted, oddly moralising end just kind of makes it for me.

That and the fact that the bloke who plays Nick in "My Family" has a very amusing masturbation scene in it - weirdly more funny than the mediocre BBC sitcom has ever managed to achieve with him...

Is this supposed to encourage me to watch it?

Blink worte:

Is this supposed to encourage me to watch it?

Well you never know...

It's a damn fine film though, captures a lot of what you can imagine WWI trench life was like, but for anyone who hasn't seen it, that's on the tip of the horror fest that is this film.

.........., that's on the tip of the horror fest that is this film.

Disagree, it's Rob Zombies directorial debut...House of a 1000 Corpses....classic

Actually that was a typo on my part Skylizard - I meant to say "only the tip" not "on the tip". Last thing I want to get into is a debate about the best horror flick of all times. I might end up saying something really stupid, like how much I fancy Christopher Lee or something...

Has Knob Zombie ever done anything worth note, other than having Stabbing Westward tour with him, whenever it was?

That's okay, typo's happen all the time, but i wouldn't get into a debate about which is the best or worst etc etc of films.......what's the point really, everybody will have their view on what they would consider to be the best and we wouldn't really achieve anything.....
So you have a thing for Christopher Lee???.... :D

Quite right Skylizard, it's totally pointless to debate the best or the worst of anything, especially films. I personally think "Plan 9 from Outer Space" rocks beyond belief, but I dare say most people think it's dire.

I guess it's about recommendation. I've not seen "House of 1000 corpses", but you never know, maybe I'll give it a go.

...and best not to get me started on Christopher Lee  ... I not be albe to stop...

Frank was Donnie's big sister's boyfriend ;)
He is wearing the bunny suit - you see him take it off when he mows down Gretchen.

There's a few hints at it throughout the movie i think, like the note on the fridge "Gone for beer, Frank" before he hits Gretchen.

But when you see Frank throughout the rest of the movie, i don't think it's really Frank, but rather a sort of hallucination of Donnie's.

Yeah, but Frank travels through time & shows Donnie the portals ... thus showing him how to time travel! ... so Frank (time travelling Frank) is the ghost of Donnie's big sister's boyfriend ... or is he!?

SP

He is a future ghost ;)
(since Donnie later kills him)

He becomes Donnie's mentor, as his death is the culmination of everything that goes wrong (will go wrong) for Donnie.

Oh, and thanks about the photos :D

I've watched Donnie Darko on my PC and I moved my cursor over the image of Frank and a white bunny head popped up in Frank's left eye.

Click on that and you get to see a deleted scene ..... obviously won't give it away, but it is quite gruesome.

That's the only hidden feature I've found.

yes, indeed a great film... like the 80's backdrop
apparently it was destined to be a huge cult classic, but didn't make it to the big screen due to comparisons between the plane crash scene and september 11th...
incidently, what's the general opinion on 'bowling for coulumbine'?

hi, i'm auctioning a rare limited edition donnie darko badge @:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61091&item=7509848 153&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
a very limited amount of these badges were made for pre-launch promotions because the film wasn't expected to be such a tremendous success.

Big fan of this film. Love the ambiguity throughout, and the many different themes you can identify within it. My friend is a bigger fan (ok she's scarily obsessed) than me, she has a tattoo on the base of her back; 28:06:42:12, and if you've got the director's cut of the DVD, you can see her the cultural impact section in the special features (Donnie Darko fan #28 I think!).
