Over the Hex-mass period, I have enjoyed

In the cinema:
Golden Compass - not too bad, a bit long and they still couldn't fit it all in. The book is great though, the film just misses out a lot of the point and the best bits.
St Trinians - v. sexy, trashy and cool. Great fun. Put your best stockings on and see this!
I am Legend - Not too bad, don't pay too much for the pleasure as it ain't fantastic, but a good story well told.

At home: Too many french films by Bunuel to mention, although "Belle De Jour" is fantastic, the point being that women never know what they want when it comes to Love and all things naughty.

Eyes wide shut - I enjoyed it although it's really slow, and the "Shocking" secret party is really no big deal. Maybe that was the point.

Dr Strangelove - ok but not as entertaining as I expected, think it's a grower though.

Mr & Mrs Smith - My favourite of a day of many movies. Arguing couple, sex, violence and gadgets. very cool.

uh, I think that's some of the key one's for now. I really need to kick that habit some day...

Aye, tis well worth a watch...even if it is really just 28 Days Later in different clothing ;)

Indeed! It helps that you have Brad & Angelina as your feuding hit men ;) Enjoyable stuff tho, very silly and very entertaining.

St Trinians - v. sexy, trashy and cool. Great fun. Put your best stockings on and see this!

From the clips I've seen of this it certainly looks like a giggle. Might see if I can't download it sometime (nothing to do with the fact that Gemma Arterton is hawt, honest guv!)

Recently (as in yesterday!) I watched:

DoA - Dead or Alive
The movie based on the games. Was enjoyable enough...had a decent roster of the characters (even tho there were a few blatant absentees), some decent fighting scenes, a silly plot that you don't really need to worry yourself about, explosions and some bikini volleyball.
To be completely fair, the best reason to watch this movie is for the women, and they don't disappoint ;)

See No Evil
Horror film starring Kane from the WWE as a hook wielding psycho acting as the hand of god, plucking out peoples eyes to remove their sin. Kane is creepy enough as the disturbed chap, the cast are the usual fare of twenty somethings that you're quite happy to see die (they're all criminals doing community service), and there are a few "eek" moments, namely the detail of some of the eye pluckings. By no means a fantastic film, but I've seen much, much worse.

hm, dress-up for a movie in the comfort of your own home, huh?

is there nothing that will convince you to leave the safety of your bedroom, Mr Flux??

There are some things that I would leave the confines of Casa de Flux for, (food, drink & boobies being some of the main reasons at the top of the priorities list ), but I have most of what I need right here tbh.

That's not to say I don't go out at all tho (altho I have to admit I've spent the majority of the last two months at home...doctors orders tho!), but now I'm not working in London if I am out it's usually round here in good ol' Romford...and to be perfectly honest, that's no real incentive to go out at all!

It's not a good movie night unless there's at least some tits and/or murderin' tbh! (^_^)

In my experience all movies based on videogames are terrible. The exception is Mortal Kombat 1 which can be regarded as "passable", unlike all the others I have watched (MK 2 taken the trophy as one of the worst video games movies ever)!
I hope Dead or Alive can live up to MK1 standard, at least. :)

Absolutely, most are utter shite. DoA is entertaining enough tho...I think UK:Resistance summed it up best (http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2006/04/new-dead-or-alive-movie-pics.html) ;)

There are a couple of others as well...not that I can think of any off the top of my head

The Anime of Streetfighter II was great (not the movie with Van Damme & Kylie, altho that was comedy!)

I hate to disagree but;

Golden Compass - Rubbish, too short and they added a lot. The book is rubbish too, the film just adds a lot of extra points including all the best bits.
St Trinians - v. sexless, classy and hot. Not fun. Take your best pants off and avoid this!
I am Legend - Not too good, pay too much for the pleasure as it's fantastic, but a bad story poorly told.

Not enough french films by Bunuel to mention, although "Belle De Jour" is rubbish, the point being that women always know what they want when it comes to Hate and all things nasty.

Eyes wide shut - I hated it although it's really fast, and the "Dull" secret party is a really big deal. Maybe that was not the point.

Dr Strangelove - Brilliant and more entertaining than I expected, think it will get worse with repeated viewings though.

Mr & Mrs Smith - My least favourite of a year of few movies. Doting couple, no sex, no violence and sadly lacking in gadgets. very hot.

Though thinking about it I've seen none of these movies and barely know what a movie is!
Probably hit a few truths by accident though....wouldn't want to waste anybody's time in reading this!

Oh all right then, sensible post.....
The Simpsons Movie, saw it over Christmas, is excellent, worth seeing for Bart's willy alone, though I'm not sure when Homer turned into Bruce Willis!!!
Incredibly it managed to look like a movie despite looking exactly like the series. Glad they had the good sense not to go fully 3D or *shudder* 'live' action.

I watched that movie on the plane on my way out from the UK (had 16hs of flight ahead of me so I had to do something).
I really liked the first 20 minutes. Once they escaped from the bubble, however, the movie went downhill, in my opinion.

I confess I only watched it because of the Spider Pig scene in the original language, it's actually funnier than the Spanish translation! And ended up going thru to the very end instead. :)

Spider pig, spider pig, does whatever spider pig does ...

The Simpsons with real actors? HEAVEN FORBID !!!

*me shudders

The Simpsons movie...worth seeing if you're a fan. It's not bad per sé, but, much like the tv series, the concept, the jokes, the format...it's all become quite stagnant now. The best part of the movie is easily Spiderpig, and you're shown that part in the trailer.

As my friend who I watched it with said as the credits were rolling:

"so we've waited nearly twenty years for that?"

I think that sums the movie up perfectly tbh.

Anyone seen Sweeney Todd yet?
Come on, it's based in London... it's dead goth (ahem)... What more could it have in common with the Slimelight?

I went to see it, and loved it. I've seen two musical films in my life: Grease [thanks to mum scarring me at an early age] and The Happiness Of The Katakuris. So I more or less know what I'm talking about.
I don't think they composed new music/songs for the film... but they were really good the ones that were in it.
My missus - not even half an hour into it - said, "Give me your fucking car keys, I'll be back at 11." And fucked-off!
And everyone else afterwards in the bogs or whatever seemed stunned that it was a musical.

I do recommend it though.

What??? 'Sweeny Todd', the famous Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim has been made into a film that has songs in it??? What the hell were they thinking??? What next? A movie of Les Miserables with songs??? A movie of Evita with songs??? Where will it end I ask, Where? Why on earth would Tim Burton, a man probably most famous for his musicals (Nightmare etc, Corpse Bride) decide to make a film with songs in it? And who could possibly have foreseen it? Who????

Or to put it a different way...it's always a good idea to find out something about the movie you're paying to see beyond the title, I mean, I went to see a movie once that I thought was going to be a medieval war flick and it turned out to be about a giant monkey attacking New York. Didn't see that coming I can tell you!

I agree 100%. Much like reading any book. Heck, much like LIFE, lest you be stumbling blindly everywhere without real sense of what is happening all around you.

By the way, I have something for you. I think you are going to love it. Judging from the name, I guess it's an epic struggle in a fantasy world much like the Lord of the Rings - I think the story tells the tale of a certain King called Kong embarking on a quest to meet a God called Zilla, and save the world from looming darkness :D. (1962 flick).

so we hire 3 movies for the week, all of which, it's fair to say, I really wanted to see:
Ong Bak - Disc went kaput after a mere few minutes
Lord of war - One glass of wine later and I'm asleep! d'oh
Saw 3 - I totally wuss-out after about half of the film and demand to watch some fluffy sitcoms instead. Hopefully we'll attack that one again this evening.

dammit! Need a movie fix!!

I have watched Saw 3, the extreme version (or uncensored, don't remember very well).

Right at the very beginning of the movie I was already grabbing my foot and thinking "arrrghh". So you can imagine it was one hell of a ride till the end. But I loved every minute of it.

Haven't seen the 4th installment yet, I hope it keeps up!

At WGT, I had the privelige of meeting the fine chaps from In The Nursery and caught a little of their screening of "The Passion of Joan of Arc", a silent 1920s French film. Unfortunately, it was far too late at night for little old me, but despite being a bit knackered our circle of friends could not tear ourselves away from this incredible film, and the bands lucious soundtrack.

They have scored a number of films, including "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari", which I'm going to see if I can buy somewhere, because it's already a favourite of mine, and I'm sure their gorgeously hypnotic music would make it even more stunning.

But if your into that sort of thing, check out "The Passion of Joan of Arc" it's very emotional, and if those lingering close-ups don't break your heart, you may already be dead.

the three best films i've seen recently are:

wristcutters: a love story (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477139/) - a beautifully quirky film set in the afterlife for people who've committed suicide... the film, that could so easily have been schmaltzy trite, avoids the obvious pitfalls and the result is a captivating and endearing tale.

special (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479162/) - without wishing to give too much away, this film is the story of a boring, borderline retarded non-entity of an individual who participates in a drug trial. the drug, designed to suppress the normal feelings of self doubt, has an adverse reaction with the protagonist's brain chemistry and hilarity duly ensues.

trade (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399095/) - a visceral and bleak film offering a window into the world of human trafficking. set in mexico & the usa, this film tells the story of one man's struggle to release a loved one who was abducted to be sold for sex in the usa. it's a rare thing when a film trying to highlight a problem in society is so utterly awesome.
