so Evavescence,
are they goth or not?
im currently debating this as they have az goth look, with a goth metal sound (the gallery v. cocteue twins) and theyre selling.
what do you guys think? is this going to be the next revolution on the alternative scene where the new metal and rock starts swinging back towards the more traditional goth side instead of shock-rock?

It's that nu metal shite that's going around.......It's like SARS you just can't get rid of it.

Well it's not nu-metal,I believe they call themselves "nu-goth" (after all it's not trendy to like or listen to nu-metal any more ;)).It's just a term created by labels who need a new music label to sell to disaffected teenagers, still it's better than Westlife.

Saw the vid for the first time early this year whilst abroad (yes.. she is a bit stunning i'll admit :D ), and although i have not heard any of their other songs, i must admit the lady has got a great voice which does have a gothy feel to it... However, i think that gets nullified when the guy sings his bit. Don't get me wrong, i think the whole thing works ok.. i guess i must hear more from them.

Sure she has a good voice but the Lady from Lacuna Coil (an Italian goth/metal band) has been doing this sort of things for years yet they remain criminally overlooked,They do too have a guy singing the odd line but he does it more in a "Paradise Lost" way than a "Linkin Park" way.
If you like the girls singing style from Evanesence tho' you really should have a look see at Lacuna Coil :)

When I first heard Evanescence I was instantly reminded of Lacuna Coil too.
I have the Lacuna Coil albums "Lacuna Coil" & "In a Reverie" which I thought were great, but I've heard that their latter material isn't as good?
Btw, for those of you into "eye-candy" as it were, the singer from Lacuna Coil is quite fit too ;)
See for youself (I think the picture may be considered to big for the forum so here's a link):

i suppose they are new metal, im not a huge fan, but i reckon its best to not genre-ise things, it just gets too confusing, as so many bands have such varied influences. i say everybody like what they like and forget what classification its under. screw genres and labels.
although, having said that, i do like when a band dresses to a certain style but their music is so different, it kinda breaks the stereotype which is kinda neat. thats one reason i think avril lavigne *COULD* have been cool, if she was willing to admit that shes playing pop music, then dressing as she does would break the britney pop princess stereotype. unfortunately, shes extremely disillusioned, and believes herself to be some kind of cutesy punk riot gurrrrrl. hmm. how annoying.

Not a nice name........
Evanecese (cant spell for crap) are very boring to listen to. My Immortal is vaguely okay to listen to the first time, but then makes you want to chuck up.
