Who thinks that slimelight could do with some air conditioning?
Last night, at least for me and my friends, it was unbearable! we left at 2:00 because we couldn't stand the heat!

It was hotter in there last night than I can ever remember.
Mind you, quite cool on the dancefloor, assuming you could get into a position dancing under the air conditioning.

what floor was you dancing on?
I couldnt find a single cool spot on the industrial floor :(
Alexander

The goth/ebm floor mostly. Upstairs was actually a lot cooler than the middle floor believe it or not, but there's a lovely air conditioning unit right in the middle of the goth/ebm floor that you can stand under. Problem is there's usually a lot of people that want to dance under it. Even more irritating is the amount of people, who have no intention of dancing, that go to the dancefloor just to stand under it.
If anyone reads this that was doing that; if you're not there to dance then go and stand on the staircase if you want to cool down! :P

i tell you a secret, Secret...
there is AC on the top floor- if you stand near the wall on the other side of the dancefloor, close to the raised bit, then you see a squary thing and it blows out cold air but you have to be fairly close to it.
... but it has saved me a couple of times from fainting when it was hot :D
Yup, was a bit warm in there on Saturday wasn't it!?...or 'hotter than Hell' if you prefer. The AC is there and was on full all night but it was an unprecedentedly hot one, probably thanks to the humidity ...I can't remember a worse one in 17 years. Still, this is England so it'll probably be bloody freezing in a few short weeks....!

It was a bit hot in there on Saturday wasn't it? I was cursing myself for wearing PVC, but congratulating myself on keeping it skimpy ;) (Though others may not agree that's a good thing LOL)
I just danced for a while, then wandered around saying hi to people while I cooled off, before heading back onto the dancefloor again.
I've found that people are usually OK about letting you get to the A/C spot on the Goth floor, though I guess in a life-or-death situation like this Saturday, people may be less willing to share...but I don't think I tried to get to it this week so I don't know...
Autumn, that's what we need. Not too long now...

Twas hell, I tell thee, HELL.
Seriously, though, it was unbearable. I ended up leaving at about 1.30am as I'd been there since 7.30pm for the bands and it was all my poor little body could take.

It made New Years at Slimes look empty.
They were good, but to be honest, by that stage I was trying to find a cool spot at all costs.

Absolutely need it!
I hate trying to jockey for a position in front of any fans or a/c when we're all in the same boat, and i don't like hanging out on the stairs so much (they get crowded, and this makes the security have to come out and do the job of shooing everyone off, which i don't like making them do :( ).
and trying to step around everyone on the stairs can be dangerous as well...last time i tried to avoid stepping on people that were swaying about i managed to slip and split my own knee open on the stairs. :x
anyways...point of reply: air conditioning: GOOD. 8O

but think how much that would cost cos youll have to get a load of them cos of the size of the place pluse te number of ppl the price would be in the 100,000 way of money and it still wont be cheep to run. air conditioning will be a god send but i dowt it would ever happen

It was very hot for the bands but by the time the club started in earnest I didn't find things too bad (after the crowd had thinned out a bit).

The Fact that the lead singer of the Cruxshadows was carried off to the back rooms completely passed out from heat exaustion kinda says that the aircon upstairs is not sufficient, especially if you want to cram so many people into such a small area.
I heard that the aircon has been soundproofed and now is only about 50% effective as it used to be.

even though it was extremely hot, i have to say I really enjoyed the cruxshadows! they were very good.
I'd not heard of them b4, but i like live music, and whenever i can, i try to check out bands live, preferably before I've heard any of their recorded stuff.
this is because live music speaks for itself, wheras you can do anything to a recorded track in the studio to make it sound good. And often i find on studio recorded albums, sounds that just cant be recreated live.
I also liked the way the lead singer moves randomly through the audience climbing onto random things etc!! when he was behind us, I was half tempted to take my eyes off of the violinist!

Had to leave at 4:00am (heat), even though the night was quite good at that time...
Although it doesn't normally get that hot, occasionally the industrial floor gets a bit warmish. Cruxshadows were great.
There have been one or two nights over the last few years that have been as hot as Saturday ... it was truly sweltering!!!!
Survival 'til the end of the night was achieved by wearing a skimpy sleeveless top & short skirt! 8)

We don't you know! There're a bunch of new industial fans in there but because of council noise restrictions it was necessary to put mufflers on them that cuts down their effectiveness considerably. We try to make it as comfortable as possible but there's a finite amount of money to go 'round and legal requirements, to ensure there's still a club to go to, hot or otherwise, have to come first. Last Saturday WAS a freakishly hot/humid day though, wouldn't expect that to happen again for some time....fingers crossed.

Hmm,
I was at Slimelight for the first time on Saturday to see the Cruxshadows perform and it was a great show, apart from the heat! It's the only problem with the place though, the atmosphere is great theres hardly any trouble about and The Cruxshadows put on an excellent show. It's just a shame I had to leave before the encore (11:30 I left) because I would have missed the trains and changes back home but also the heat played a part in me leaving - it was almost unbearable.

um this? extreme? are you mad??? extreme is temps in the negatives in winter (that may happen for a day or so here) and in the 40's in summer ...
25 is not extreme ...
i remember litterally frying an egg on a car bonnet once when i was young ... and i remember just before coming here driving to a neighboring town and the road had melted...
what the problem is here is that the hot weather comes and people arent equiped to deal with it... the tube is awful and fans are sold out in the stores... and clubs dont have sufficient aircon and houses are designed to keep the heat in not out...
yeah 'global warming' hasnt helped but this is far from extreme... and although i hate the heat (with extreme vengence) and could never deal with it back home either... i can still understand that its bloody humid in here!

In other words you don't know and now just waffling sh1t
amen to that
I'd just like to add, at this juncture, that the vast majority of English people are twats and should have been drowned at birth....and as an Englishman I include myself in that number! Just off to drown myself now so as not to appear hypocritical!!

i dont think its waffling. I think it makes sense if you actually read it.
Its like for instance, a penguin could call a penguin a name, but if a lion called that penguin the same name, he would be accused of being prejudice against the penguin
All penguins are bastards too....not sure about lions...don't wanna piss them off in case one reads this and I get eaten.....'course that doesn't apply to South Africans as they're all wussies....apart from the ones who are lions.
My apologies to any 'wuss's out there about the spelling of your...errr...kind!

You've done it now Fad....if you see penguins starting to flock around your place, it's time to worry (I have this mental image of penguins perched everywhere - trees, phone wires - like in 'The Birds' - I'm not sure how they would get up there though. Must have ladders.)
That's weird....I'm just getting visions of being punched in the face by a South African.
Course there's no danger of any of THEM perching on phone wires....they're notorious for having no sense of balance....AND they attract sharks apparently, but that's not really relevant!!!
....actually maybe it's the Penguins that attract sharks. I think Sith Efricans attract 'snakes'!! (In much the same way as Irishmen repel them).
It's amazing what you can learn on the inter-net.

Going back on topic for a second, I must say I thought the outdoor seating helped a lot with the heat this week. Should happen for the whole of the summer!
