View Full Version : Braveheart
I used to like this movie, good battle scenes, despite it's anti-English bias....then I read the wikipedia entry for William Wallace! :(
Now I knew it was historically inaccurate but this is ridiculous...beyond the fact that there WAS someone of the name William Wallace and the fact that there IS a place called Scotland everything else seems to be pure fabrication. It seems to be up there with Lord of the Rings for historical accuracy and is actually based on a fictional poem written a hundred and seventy years after the 'events' it depicts.
What a load of bollocks...still, nice fights.
Just prooves what a bigotted twat Gibson appears to have become in recent years...I just didn't know previously exactly how MUCH of a twat he'd become.
*Sigh*

It's a movie, not a documentary. It never claimed to be accurate, and even movies that claim to be accurate are often lying.
Fargo for instance - not only is it inaccurate, but it also claims to be a true story! What a load of rubbish!
I wouldn't watch any of the Spiderman films either - also complete fallacies. Pirates Of The Carribean? Not an ounce of truth there. ;)

Mmm and I distinctly remember that the Saw series weren't too factual and as for those X-men, well that's just a complete lie!

True, but the problem is a great many of the slack jawed populace believe it to be true and use it for an excuse for a load of nationalist bollocks like what took place on the pitch at Murrayfield before England played there in the 6 nations. It's sort of anti-education.
For the record, no one was wearing a kilt at Bannockburn & Culludon was largely a fight between fellow Scots.
Ahhh...but if you listen to the voice-over at the beginning it DOES imply that it's a possible account of the true historical facts by pointing out that history is always written by the victor!!
Don't remember Spiderman doing that.
And Fargo was taking the piss...which is fine, but can only be done once. The Cohen brothers admitted that they never really expected anyone to actually believe it!!!...Irony you see?!
I don't think Gibson's got an ironic bone in his body....he believes in the literal truth of the bible after all!!!
Fad, you need to watch more factual stuff, like "Lord of the Rings"!
