View Full Version : A whinge about stamping upon entry

I see it as pointless to stamp people before the enter slimes as
a) you do not let us venture in and out of the club anyway and
b) even if there is a different club on downstairs, the regulars will not venture down there and the others well...they do tend to come up to the goth area regardless of restriction. Also, it's a waste to employ people just to do that unnecessary task (sorry those who have that job!!!!).
Now here are my more personal reasons as to why this is extremely annoying:
I have had EXTREMELY bad Excema and was covered in bleeding sores all over my body. It was disgusting and at times I really wanted to be dead.
I know these days, most people will suffer from this sooner or later and then you will understand. Which brings me to why I cannot and refuse to have my hand or anything else stamped with ink :o
My partner has recently come down with it severely on both his hands as well. So of course, he cannot have the stamp either.
Most of the people who work at slimes are absolutely amazing and cool people! Gotta love them! But I always have thing, especially as there are new people doing the stamping, is that I have to explain this and they look at my like I am lying or a freak (excuse the bad pun!!). I have to reve myself up to tell my whole story bout allergies. They usually let us go but the other week one insisted that my partner be stamped :/
/end of rant.
Any thoughts from anyone on this?
I totally agree with you. I understand the point in stamping if there are various floors which are accessable only with a stamp (or a wristband in the case of when Perversion & Alternator had the extra floor on occaision) but otherwise it's a moot point.
I don't think I've been stamped in about 5 years at Slime, I just politely decline :)

I utterly agree. The ink also washes off at the 1st trip to the toilet.
What happened to us being able to leave the venue and re-entering if we had the afore-mentioned stamp? It used to be quite pleasant being able to sit outside and have a natter whilst cooling down.

Really?
I normally find it quite difficult to wash off the next day.
Maybe I should make a bee-line to the toilets and wash it off as soon as I arrive.
[And for those of you who doubt it, I was there on Saturday]

Wow, I had that ink on for days before :o
We cannot go outside because it is a residential area and disturbs people. Unfontunately people used to make loads of noise and disturbance to the point the council got involved. I am happy to stay inside, espeicially if that means slimes will continue to be open ;)

It's true...
Did you get any water melon btw? That was quite bizarre, but a welcome refreshment :)

I saw you briefly, you went whizzing passed, and then I didn't see you again. I saw KiN briefly too, across the dance floor, but didn't have time to chat.

I am not a fan of watermelon.
What with fruit and glowsticks, the place is turning more and more into a rave every week!!

I was wondering why people were wandering around with bits of watermelon. Typical, I have a tendency to miss giveaways like that.
I did enjoy the toffee apple and ice lolly giveaway at the last Alternator.

Yep, it is a shame that we can't go outside anymore, but it wasn't stopped because of noise from Slimelight patrons. It was stopped by the council, because of the noise & fighting outside the pub at the end of the road which was then called the Blue Angel.
When they stopped letting us go outside, I stopped letting them stamp me!

I remember the Blue Angel. What a dodgy place that was...

If you have a resonable excuse the bouncers will let you out and back in again. Needing "a breath of fresh air" won't cut it though, but I have seen people let out and in every now and then. Likewise with the stamping, I'm sure if you just decline it they'll be okay with it.
I saw the watermelon too, but declined it on the basis that I was full of pizza and fajhitas at the time.

Must be me then...they try to get me with that stamp :o Typical! lol...
I love the ones that vote 'don't really care', I couldn't resist putting that option up in the vote. Was going to put 'stamp? what stamp?'
What time do they give food? Never noticed :o
*shrug*
I got there about 2:45...must've been aboot 3:45ish when I got me hands on the melons...*ahem*

Pizza and Fajhitas?
Nice to meet you and chat your ear off for a bit!

Went to a party before slimes where I was filled with pizza, fajhitas, alcohol and made to smoke funny cigarettes. By the time I got to slimelight I couldn't even stomach some watermelon.
Good to see you though, and to put a face to a name. ;)
Oh yeah, and I voted for "don't really care" because "not bothered" wasn't an option. Believe it or not but they don't look to stamp people just for the fun of it. It's not pointless, and I don't dislike it, but then I'm not overjoyed by it either. ;)

I can certainly agree with points made against stamping such as alergies but just to let you know if it bothers me to get a stamp on ME I'm not that fussed it takes like a second or two to let em stamp me and that's the end of it. Personally it's no big deal so I'm fine either way stamp/no stamp.
Also I went to slime the other week and I was outside chatting quietly for a good 20 minutes or so with my girlfriend and the door staff were around nearby but said nothing. They were real friendly as always and made a little joke at me to help em move the outdoor tent area. They never hurried me in or anything. Suppose if you're just stood aside not bothering anyone and talking amongst yourselves quietly it's not really a big deal. Kinda sucks for those people who have been told not to go out.

Yeah it's a good choice. Beats some places doing some marker pen swipe on your hand. How dumb is that anyway...that's easy to duplicate.
Ladybirds on the other hand aren't so common.

that has to be the most bizarre comment i've heardc all week, rick 'ladybirds aren't so common'.
unless you're a farmer planning on using natural pest control!
and my two cents is i support the allergy/skin complaint sufferers.as for me, it's pointless cos i always wear wrist bands etc which then obscure the stamp!

I do genuinely wonder what the point of the stamp is? I could understand it if you could go out and come back in, to prvoe you'd already paid, but officially that's not the case now is it?
As for the ladybird being rare, I think it's fair to say it's rare for THIS kind of application. So there you go - exclusivity! No doubt people will soon be tattooing huge ladybirds on their foreheads to show they visit Slimelight regularly....or maybe not ;)
As there is no real purpose to these stamps (though I will probably be corrected by someone who knows what they're talking about), why should people have to have them if they don't want them - for whatever reason?
If some form of 'yes, you've paid' marker IS needed, those plastic strips they use at a lot of clubs/gigs that go around your wrist, and have to be cut off, are pretty cheap and probably get around the skin sensitivity issue. Of course the problem then is....what colour to use? Dayglo/glowstick colours, or a stylish, desirable black? :)

Who will pay for the additional cost in having a plastic arm band as a oppossed to an ink stamp????? If they increased mem. entry fees by Å1 to cover this would you be happy with that?

Firstly, those bands are probably not very expensive, purchased in bulk.
Secondly, would I be happy with paying more to get in? No, of course not. Who likes to pay more for ANYTHING (except very sad individuals who like to impress people with how they are SO wealthy)? But then I don't have a problem with the stamping. If the stamping is causing people problems though, maybe an alternative is needed - I was just advancing the armbands as an idea. Perhaps someone else could suggest another? Any ideas Skylizard?
If a blanket switch to the oh-so-expensive plastic bands is going to cause an increase in the entry-fee, perhaps they should just be offered as an alternative to stamping for those who can't be stamped?
I shall speak to 'those who stamp' about not insisting upon doing so to anyone with a bona-fide reason to want to avoid it, such as a medical concern.
The stamping is generally there to make it possible for us to distinguish those who have paid to enter from anyone who hasn't (there'll always be someone who tries to duck in through a fire-door/ hop between clubs while the security's attention is distracted/ abseil down the face of the building/ whatever) and the stamp is a simple and convenient way of distinguishing between the two.
It also allows us to let people pop out, be it to use their phone or whatever, without the security requiring photographic memories.
The 'no-readmittance' rule is indeed one stipulated by the council to avoid noisy drinkers from disturbing the neighbours. It's a real pain in the arse, I know, when it's hot, but doesn't prevent us from allowing people to leave the road temporarily, say, to escort a girlfriend to the bus stop, to visit the cash-point, etc. With the stamp we can do this, without it......!

i think i will get a ladybird tattoo.
the danger with dayglo strips is that people like ollie would never take them off, and then become lepers, or at least get horrendously dirty.and that wouldn't be nice, would it?

I didn't know that! I have, on occasions, run out of money and being able to the cashpoint would be great! 8)

Any ideas!!! yeah sure, just keep the stamp, i don't have a problem with it and really don't see what the fuss is all about. They have been around for so many years, just seems it has become just another point for slimelight goers to bitch about.

LOL not much of an alternative for the people who DO have a problem though? That was what we were talking about, after all....
If the stamp's optional, I guess it's all irrelevant anyway....
