View Full Version : Hitler and trendies...ENFORCE THE CODES!!!

o.k.,this has all been raised many times before and i've not said too much, but i feel that the dress code and guest rules REALLY should start being enforced more strictly...
point 1.
slimelight is an alternative club.don't tell me that people who have wandered into the club in 'casual club shirts' for want of a better term and are impressed by septum piercings and forearm tattoos are in the least bit alternative.it's not even their apparell that bothers me;it's that in slimelight we shouldn't have to be subjected to 'the questions' (anyone pierced or tattooed knows what i mean).i'm also not being more alternative than thou, i'm content to be 'mainstream alternative' by wearing cyberdog/jupiter, but the point is, at least it's not highstreet brands etc. I wouldn't walk into a club playing garage wearing cyberdog stuff, get loud and (more) stupid and start asking people why they were wearing bling...
point 2
(slightly oxymoronic given the last point)
there is such a thing as going too far, and the Hitler in slimes last sat is the most disgusting thing i've ever seen there. Maybe in a strictly fetish club this would be acceptable. you could state that he's being REALLY alternative by upsetting a tolerant, underground culture, but i think this is donkey shit. i've never wanted to hit someone for being different before (hence a paradox?) but i was itching to on saturday, or at least ask the guy if he thought he was big and clever. i hope he does it again when viking is around. if you went into a club in new york dressed as bin laden you'd be linched.i hope this guy gets what's coming to him.
obviously we're all free to argue the dresscode and entry rules (and no doubt some people will atgue with me just for the sake of their feeble inferiority complexes) but i was incensed this week...
apart from that, a great night!

So dress code rules as long as they suit you????? Agree with your first point but not your 2nd, but hypocritical don't you think?

err...yeah...i guess somebody didn't read or understand the whole post. even alternative clubs have to draw the line somewhere.i don't care what type of alternative/fetish/cuber/goth/crusty etc clothes they are.o.k. i'll spell it out without difficult words like oxymoronic then...
Slimelight is an alternative club and has an alternative dresscode. However some things are incredibly offensive and this includes dressing up as a dictator responsible for the extermination of over six million Jews and countless others. This is unacceptable to myself and many many others.
i don't mean to sound offensive and i'm sure you don't either (nor do i mean to patronise, honestly i just prefer to use the language that i would. i can only presume that you really did misunderstand what an oxymoron is.).Somebody needs to invent a tone of voice translator for technophobes who can't type.
Unless you're arguing just for the sake of it...
I'm an open minded guy. In London you can't afford to NOT be. Everyone has their own style and i don't judge them on it. Cross dressing is not for me, but it's not offensive. i mix with most people on both floors whether they're goth/cyber/whatever.So if anyone's got anything CONSTRUCTIVE to add, feel free, or just carry on being belligerent...

19-07-2004, 02:21 PM
oh god yes, i'm so violent. i'm ashamed of myself. Nobody else in slimelight ever gets angry...Nor do they ever get offended. It's because we're all so fucking alternative that everything is acceptable.
i'll come wearing a fur coat next week draped with an aborted foetus boa and shouting wearing a flashing t-shirt with racist slogans and i expect nobody to be upset, approach me or want to hit me...
o.k, what is the 'line of acceptability in slimelight'? i'm dying to know.
Guy13
19-07-2004, 02:37 PM
I know where you're coming from, but violence is not "within the line of acceptiblity" at Slimelight, unless met out by the Slimelight Security ( ).

I think that you've kind of identified the problem here - where DO you draw the line?
It's (relatively) easy to exclude specific things : No blue jeans, no Burberry baseball caps, no bling-encrusted attack-dogs etc, but how do you exclude something like a Hitler costume? (OK, I suppose you could list 'No Hitler costumes', but that kind of list could get lengthy (and subjective!)....
And I guess your point really was, SHOULD we exclude the Hitler costume person? In my view, no. I really don't understand the whole uniform thing, it does nothing for me, but there are people who like to wear it and who am I to say they shouldn't?
We don't know even WHY they were wearing it - perhaps it was a joke (some may question the taste), or maybe it was meant to be derogatory to Hitler and you just didn't 'get it', or maybe the person IS a Hitler fan? Maybe they were just out for a reaction and you just gave it to them?
There are a lot of people in Slimes who look good, and I'm not afraid of telling them so, but if I saw someone wearing something offensive I'd most likely just ignore them.
Erm, I've kind of lost track of where I was going here so I'll stop.

I have to add that i have nothing against military outfits, and they do look good;Hitler is specifically offensive. If that guy really was being derogatory to Hitler, i'll eat my transmuters...

well, i walked into a townie rave, looking like a silly goth and so far people have been extremely nice to me... even more so, they didnt try to walk right through me, like so many people seem to do at slimelight.
not saying its better at raves but it was a strange feeling being so accepted, looking so different

Yes please we are all uneducated thick people, simple words next time.......just in case you didn't get it, it's called sarcasm......
At the end who gives a fuck what someone wears ( that statement excludes all the trendy, hip hop, glow stick swinging Mofos and any streetdress associated with it)
Maybe a lot of people are offeneded and maybe a lot of people aren't, i'm not offended and don't give a fuck what it's associated with. There are more important things going on in the world than to spend my evening worried about someone in a Hitler uniform.

Wooooo Yay SP :).
Uglydolly: If it offends you it would probably annoy the wearer more if you payed absolutely no attention to him rather than hitting him (as lets face it anyone who goes out wearing that is fully prepared for the threat of violence, nonchalance they would not be ;).

Well I admit that I do agree with some of this; I don't like blue jeans, trainers etc (you’d never get into the Dev dressed like it); but it can be awkward for the security staff on the door. For example if there is a band playing for a private hire, and the customers are very often allowed in to Slimes after, free of charge; and let's face it there is no dress code at gigs (nor should there be) and if they've been to the gig they like the music.
It is also difficult to turn people away when they've come to Slimes for the first time and they are from another country or with a member (although if with a member they should be told how to dress)
But the up front trendies who come to either drink late of "eye up" the customers should not get in IMHO and the same should apply to members was well who just can't be bothered to dress in the correct manner. And to be fair the vast majority don't get in!
Well that' my two penny worth

Whilst I personally objected to the person[outfit] in question I appreciate that I possibly have also managed to piss people off through inappropriate clothing or idiotic behaviour at one point or another and so should not be TOO judgemental. However the sight of him air guitaring was worth beholding, even sober I found it near hysterical.
I really hope that the guy does know the meaning of irony.
Maybe there should be a clothes loan system so that anyone who didn't know what the dress code was could be lent a few items from unclaimed lost property. For a laundering cost though. Must stop now my mind is boggling.

what if this person was a hitler fan? who are we to hold his opinion against him? freedom of speech and choice of political view seems to only exist until the majority disagrees with it.
i don't want anybody to misunderstand what im saying and accuse me of being a nazi, because thats my where im coming from at all. my point is that this "drawing the line" is based on our own objective views of whats right and wrong. if this person chose to wear the outfit as a sign of respect towards hitler, who are we to tell him who he can or cannot respect? yes, hitler did shit awful things, but at the time in germany he was a god, its entirely possible certain people still retain this view.
everybody will be offended by something in their lifes, & we cant create a dresscode which is going to accomodate everybodies likes and exclude their dislikes, its impossible.
just trey and imagine that this person is dressing this way for their own reasons, dont get offended and take it personally because i doubt it was intended in that way at all.
im not sure if im making this point well. in summary; everybody has a right to their own opinion, whether this is offensive to another is irrelevant, as that individual may have an opinion which offends another person, and so on so forth its impossible for everyone to agree.

i've learned the hard way that the only cyberdog stuff worth getting is the cheapest style of tshirts, and the cheapest or most expensive trousers-every 'product i owned perished in a short time, but the t shirt i bought there five years ago for 18 quid looks brand new.
i think that most people look good in it, the only problem being their erratic sizing-i'm a 32 waist and have two pairs of rave pants both of which fit.the grey ones are medium, the white xl!

Not many people even knew he was inflatable, I'm impressed!
Apparently someone once filled him helium and he spent a chilly night snagged in a tree near Berlin, until somone found him and got him down - WWII could have been very different if that tree were a touch shorter.....

Just to stick my oar in.
The guy in the Hitler gear didn't *do* anything offensive. I also think I'm right in saying that he didn't have any swastikas displayed, or any military badges even.
It *was* just a style thing.
He was dressed in Nazi chic, sure, but he didn't do anything that could be interpreted as *being* Nazi.

This pretty much ties into the general sentiment in this thread - that certain attitudes/behaviour are not deemed aceptable, but most clothing is.

hmm, this reminds me off a contraversial night in sheffield i was at..it was called the bunker, and had a military theme. It was held in the town hall and the hall was decorated with red banners, with a black sybol of a B (for Bunker....) they also had various people dressed up in military uniforns who marched about and stood 'at attention' for some of the night...
Now all in all it was a good night....however, many people were deeply concerned by the imagary in the club..it is a fair comment that the banners could be said to be similar to that of the nazi flag, and the military staff, did seem a little SS like. the argument against this, was that the banners were not NAZI flags, but Bunker flags and it was a miltary themed night...(the dress code was cyber/goth/alternative..)
I remained undecided, as i could apreciate both sides of the argument..If you took away the possible similaritues to the Nazi-ish deco, then the decoration did look pretty dam good if im honest...but obviously was what was behind them that upset people...
Just thought it relevent an worth mentioning..any thoughts??

i dont think it should HAVE to be said that a hitler outfit is pretty inappropriate. how many MILLIONS of people died because of this one man? i hate it when people wear this kind of shit to be "different" and "altrenative". they want to get a rise out of people, but they use a figure of hate and discrimination. i think it was tasteless for someone to dress this way in public. if it's some kind of fetish thing you're into then whatever go for it but don't pull it out infront of people who will most likely be highly offended by it. there are still people alive who have been to concentration camps...can you even imagine the feeling they must have when they see someone dressed as hitler??

youre forgetting the fetish aspect, which is not to be mistaken for a liking or a preference.... its something you have or you dont.
i personally dont understand foot fetishist or rubber fetishist.
the guy in the uniform did not walk up to me and demanded more or less that i should play his fetish games... while the foot fetishist did...
there you go, it still matters what is on the inside and, i could moan about people in nurses outfits, as i have had terrible experiences with nurses.
besides, i didnt think he looked liked hitler himself... seem more likenesses, i am not even sure if its a WW2 uniform to be honest, as i try not to stare.

In Germany (where I'm form) dressing up as Hitler is absolutely not acceptable. There are many military outfits, at least "my" club, but they are rather randomly put together, not resembling any actually existing uniform. I really can't understand that there is a single person who deems a Hitler outfit appropriate, no matter if the wearer behaves or not, it's just extremely bad taste, IMHO.

i am also german and i love the SS uniforms and there are clubs where people wear uniforms occasionally even with swastikas...
the guy in question has been many times at slimelight, his uniform and himself do not look particularly like hitler at all and maybe less noticed were the guys who looked like the hitler youth sporting the 'totenkopf'.
why dont you relax, simply wearing a uniform doesnt make you a mass murderer 8O

Hitler at Slimelight? What kind of freaky Franken-scinece time travel could have made that possible??? Seriously though, I don't find anything offensive or in bad taste about SS style uniforms; it's only symbols after all, you know, semiotic war-fare, a way of translating your disaffection and distaste at the horrors of the "real" or "straight" world, subtle as a brick and ready for war. Shock is an imporatant and powerful wepon in getting people to wake up to reality, to question, to be aware. Shock is pretty much the only channel of communication left open. Fact is, (sad but true) maybe extremity is the only was of articulating yourself, reving a kind of lyricism of protest..... Or maybe the guy was just a turd? I don't know, I never saw him. But my guess is you can't dress like that, open a debate, throw down a challenge unless you actually have something to say, so did like anyone ask him why? Okay, enough of this superfluous verbiage. Way too early for this Dada-ist bull shit.

Is this "Hitler" the short guy in the grey shirt and a peaked hat and slight moustache, seen there quite a few time?
Hardly Hitler-esque.
Or was this guy properly kitted out?
i think the german WW2 uniforms are damn sexy. They were after all designed by Hugo Boss himself. People wearing that uniform are as offensive as people driving VW's. I think people wearing crucifixes are more offensive as more people have died in name of christianity since its "invention" than any other "belief" or war, for starters - or has no one heard of the crusades? and yet people still flock to church and worship a god that is supposed to be peaceful under the watchful eyes of perverted kiddyfiddlers better known as priests.
So wear whatever military uniform you please!
At the risk of sounding patronising, two wrongs don't make a right.

I often wear military outfits to Slimelight and often get mistaken for a Nazi. At no time have I ever worn a Nazi uniform , the uniforms I wear are ones I have made myself from various sources. If I have ever caused anyone any offence then I am very sorry , but I find it sad that I should be apologising for the clothes I wear at a club such as the Slimelight. I have been a regular for about fifteen years and anyone who knows me knows that I find it upsetting that people relate my outfits to my politcal or personal opinions. I am not a Nazi and share none of their views , but I do like wearing uniforms , and I'm not about to stop wearing them because other people mistake them for something else. If anyone has any problems with what I wear please come and talk to me about it and hopefully I can put your mind at rest.

Since someone mentioned Jesus, can we ban Jesi? The long hair or Jesus mullet and the beard is a no no for Slimes.
No!! :P
OMG, literally. But Jesus, the music is Slimelight is dark, wouldn`t it better if you went to a club that played house music? Full of love and all of that.
Fuck no, dark is good!!
You people believe too much of that shit printed in that church endorsed piece of fiction.
Peace? There's always fights at house clubs. Too many fucking chavs, ya see!
I'll be down Slime at the weekend, you can be sure of that!!

I'm so fucking alternative that I turn up at slimelight in whatever I wear at the moment, I do not identify myself with goth people with hobby depressions or feel a need to identify myself with any other type of sub culture.
People that judge me, I do and always will regard as very unfriendly people. Even maybe a bit evil ! {Edited version for all the children}
My last visit at slime I turned up in my normal computer geeky/friendly pothead clothes that I picked from my wardrobe because it was clean.
I go there because of the music and nostalgia and it used to have some fairly nice people, nice guards as always but can't understand people that believe that just because you want to go out and have a good time and listen to some music you have to dress the way everybody else does.
To look mainstream still get more attention than worst pervo outfit.

I think it's a bit rude of you to use th word CUNT in a public forum!! children could be reading this!
And as for dressing up "to fit in", I think you'll find most people dress up for the fun of it.
Yes it's fun to dress up. but when do we get a chance to do that outside of a fancy dress party, without looking like a complete tit? SLIMELIGHT! Yay!
Casual wear welcome too, i say :)
But as long as it doesnt point towards the kind of ppl that like to cause trouble ('football shirt' ppl are a good example... always like to cause a fuss.. but then im stereotyping, for which i apologize)
Create your own style or buy it off a shelf, just put some kind of effort into it. This is not a Sunday social, it`s a club and one with a dark theme. We come to Slimelight to forget our dreary existence, enjoy the music, and lose ourselves in a momentary dream.

Coming soon to an imaginary record-store on the internet, Hitler and the Trendies' debut single 'Enforce The Codes', featuring the fuhrer-lookalikey on the electric euphonium and teutonic vocals.
'I like zis instrument, it has ze real deep oompah-industrial sound' said the band's lead singer, Hans Lederhosen, in a (quite frankly) offensively bad, put-on Germanic accent, when interviewed by his mum.
Lederhosen (real name Ralph Hapshatt) was asked about the stir his outfit had been causing amongst Slimelight regulars.
'Fuck zem, zey are a bunch off pooftas' He is reported to have said.
Hitler and the Trendies are planning a tour of local A and E departments, next time they leave home.

Something a little lighthearted for y'all:
The European Union commissioners have announced that an agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for short).
In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard "c" will be replased with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced by "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20 per sent shorter.

yeah. your primary language comes natural to you, but when it comes to learning a secondary language later, its kind of like learning translation from your primary language, which is harder

yeah that's the one thing... but it's more difficult for kids with english as primary language to learn other languages than for kids who learn english as a secondary language... i dunno why... ;)
well... i totally lost ... what the hell was the topic here?
