I've found that I can't go onto the upstairs dance floor for more than an hour or so before my ears hurt.
It might just be that my eardrums are very sensitive (I'm slightly deaf already) - but does anyone else find the music levels uncomfortable? Sometimes I love it loud; it's so easy to get absorbed in the music and dance on, and on, and on... but I always pay for it with a certain muffled sensation and occasionally ringing noises the next day.
Virgin in Camden does sell reusable earplugs, even if the staff tell you they don't - go to the till on the LHS of the ground floor then turn round. It's a pain to have to wear them but I feel like I don't have any choice.
Who else likes the noise but can't deal? What do you do? Or are you resigned to encroaching deafness?

I love the noise... but only the right sort of music.
The fluffy house shit they have a habit of playing upstairs could do with being quieter: it just gets so dull. Heavy Industrial Noise has to be played ear-bleedingly loud... but can get really painful after a full night. Sick'n'twisted hurts at the end, and that ends at about 3am (i think..)

Too old? Heh. Not unless I drop dead on the dance floor, which will only happen if the music hits the resonant frequency of my brain (Uwe's particularly good at this). It would be nice to carry my ability to hear into old age, though. Assuming my head doesn't explode in the meantime, that leaves a good few years of aural abuse still ahead of me!
Maybe half of Slimes is already proverbially deaf, and that's why the music has to be turned up so loud...

I know what u mean  :)
But I think the best thing to avoid the damage is not to go up or wear some of these (http://www.themagiccorner.com/magiccorner/images/earplugs.jpg)
There is even a rave edition (http://www.georgereppas.com/images/earplugs.gif) that should fit in the colourscheme upstairs  8)

I think what slimes needs to do, especially on the goth/ebm floor is get more speakers. That way the music surrounds you more, and engulfs you more, so it doesn't need to be as loud. On the Goth/EBM floor, cos there aren't enough speakers, you don't get enough volume all around the floor, a few more spekers up near the DJ box, and it would be great.

Please introduce yourself to Snowwy and myself at Slimes some time...it sounds as if we are kindred spirits, musically speaking! :D

i love the noise and apart from very rarely or very early on in the evening, i dance well away from the speakers which means that i have not got the tinnitus afterwards :D
maybe slimelight could sell earplugs for a small profit at the door?
:D

Music volume is fine, it's just all the levelling and equalising where some DJ's could use a course or 2 on.

Apart from a course on two on EQ-ing and compressors etc I think the main problem is the PA system which is old and knackered and doesn't sound right on a lower level..

I agree- it's even worse than upstairs! Actually sometimes the PA on the mid floor is too low.
