I think that this is very unfair indeed! I think glow sticks are fun, and I dont care whos bum they're up!

I have to add, that if it wasnt for glowsticks at slime, the place would start looking very dull indeed. I think the colourful lights swirling all over the place are very pretty and they work well for breaking up the general dullness of the surroundings and the general dullness of boring miserable fart-arse gothic people that have nothing better to do than whinge and complain about pretty and colourful things because they arn't black and white, or because they make people happy!

CHEER UP GOTHS!

Ironically no-one representing the "anti-glo stick" front here is actually a goth ;) We just don't think they're suited to Slimelight.

Ok, well the glo stick fans want reasons why glo sticks are crap & (at Blinks request ;)) should be banned from Slimelight, so here they are;

*They don't look cool.

*They don't make you look like a good dancer.

* They don't impress anyone other than children...and if that's what you're trying to do then you're going to jail if someone finds out, ya hear?!

* Those of you (and to be fair from what I gather this doesn't apply to those of you talking on here) that swing them around on string are the most annoying c**ts around! You're not going to make any friends when your swinging glo stick hits someone in the face (and it will, it's only a matter of time)

* They make you look uber "trendy", doing nothing for the alternative scene in general. If TG clamped down on the hordes of Cyberdog wearing trendy wear, then surely Slime could do the same with the trendy/rave associated glo sticks?

* You want to dance to songs like Satisfaction & Lonliness while waving glo sticks, then there are plenty of other clubs that specifically cater for this.

For further reasons why glo sticks should be banned please see the exhibits presented below:

Exhibit A (http://www.ravezone.qc.ca/photos/2003/forever3/versosoul/Frank-Jeff_rave.jpg)
As we can see here, these guys have their glo sticks and think they look the business...maybe if they could see themselves they'd realise just how idiotic they look.

Exhibit B (http://www.violentnation.com/visuals/me/where_the_rave_at.jpg)
Not that I really need to comment on this one, but as you can see glo sticks can make you look like a proper fucktard.

Exhibit C (http://www.o-reading.co.uk/clubs/reviews/gifted_brandon/glow_stick.jpg)
As we can see here, using glo sticks can lower your intelligence. No love, it doesn't go there *sigh*

Well I'm not a glow stick waver yet just aspiring to be so therefore i watch ppl with glowsticks, i dont try and avert my eyes from the light. and i dont see any of that stupid behaviour and if i did it would be down to excessing on alcohol/drugs - thats makes anyone look stupid even those not holding glowsticks.

I say stop worrying about looking cool so much and have some fun - accept other ppl for who they are and what they like.

Well i wish i had taped the one girl at Slimes for you then. She was a large girl and didn't have a clue, couldn't dance let alone play with a glow stick. It reminded me of the scene where Homer Simpson goes to the Doctor and the Doc does a fat test, Homer says "Watch that blubber fly". Her dancing was hillarious but she is not the only one, these glowers amuse me no end when i watch them. They go flat out for a minute, stop bend over catch their their breath, flat out again for another minute then stop and look around to see who is watching and maybe impressed with them.
These glow stick people are entertainment though, if I need a good laugh just watch them for a few minutes....thanks people.

Was that on the 3rd? She had loads of glowsticks over her - she is mentioned in the other glowstick thread i think.

If glowstick wavers entertain you, then wouldnt it be best if they stayed if only 4 your amusement??

lemontwist

The message in the other thread was:

That'll be Lisa the glowstick fairy down from Leeds on a mission to spread the glow. The reason she has so many glowsticks is she likes to give them away to people.

Oh if you saw her I was probably nearby covered in strobing neon string, wearing a simmilar UV-reactive tie-dye t-thirt and waving glowsticks (and yes it *is* a deliberate attempt to be as tasteless as possible).

I didnt see much of her dancing so i cant comment on that

Who said anything about "trying to look cool" and not having fun?
I have plenty fun when I go out, and as for looking cool...s'never an issue. I'm more than happy to be one of a couple of people on a dancefloor, be it sober or not so sober, and I never worry if I look "silly" dancing.

Btw, re;

All evidence is irrelevant due to the fact that none of these pictures represent the glow stick wavers that go to slimelight

There are actually two reasons for this...
a) I don't have, nor want any pictures of people from Slimelight waving glo sticks
b) I'm too nice to take this to a personal level & start pointing out individual peoples flaws...that's just mean!

Well, in not too distant past, before Cyberdog destroyed peoples imagination & creativity, Slimers (certainly Industrial floor Slimers) used to create some amazing black & UV outfits, decorating their clothes, hair, wrists etc etc with UV stuff. It looked amazing … especially if you’d munched some acid or hallucinogenic pills. Glo-sicks have also contributed to this lack of originality. :?

Fun has always been had, and will continue to be had … but c’mon, let’s do it our style … not imitate the rather poor mainstream clubs!!! 8)

You have to look around & use your imagination! There are many cheap/free sources of UV glowy stuff. For instance, my leather jeans were laced down the sides with orange road marking tape ... you can steal it (of course, I would never condone theft ... honest Guv!) from any road-works and it glows like a fucker!!

Haven't seen an electronic one so can't comment.

Hula hoops. Nice idea, but i reckon if someone started hula hooping mid dancefloor they aren't gonna be the most popular person in town!

I had a great idea for something for Slime (altho admittedly not very practical) , but I'm afraid I can't tell you my trade secrets.

Suffice to say tho, one idea for doing something a bit different for slime that is currently gestating looks like it may come into fruition, and if/when it does, it's going to be fun ;)

Sorry I have been gone for a while, some of us WORK for a living

i) Flux, a nicley structured arguement Sir, credit where credit is due.

ii) It is all about having fun, some people like using glowsticks, some people like doing the goth "lightbulb" dance, and some people like being boring and sitting in the upstairs bar bitching about everone. As long as it is fun, and doesn't HARM anyone, who cares.

iii) I thought the "alternative" scene was meant to be about being accepting and open, and not picking on people, but apparently I was wrong

iv) Making your own outfits (a) this assumes that people care about their outfits being original, and aren't just wearing stuff they like (b) it just means you would then pick on people who are crap at making clothes, as opposed to the glowstick wavers (c) If originality is so important, why don't we all start making our own music, and getting slimes to play it, instead of the mass-produced stuff that they play at Slimelight which everyone owns. (Compare that with everyone wearing cyberdog stuff). Just because it is popular does not mean it is bad.

v) Anyone who takes me TOO seriously, wake up and smell the coffee.

so whats our views on the electronic ones??? as to be honest they are so much better than glow-sticks although matching them up can be even more fun  and i take it that if people came in with those hula hoops wich used to be played with in school you would object to that also???

for you see i want an affordable dancing accessory so what do you reccommend

Hula hoops. Nice idea, but i reckon if someone started hula hooping mid dancefloor they aren't gonna be the most popular person in town!

Been done, quite recently too and the purpetraitors were not the most popular but there were a big group of 'em.

Rivetmike

... This was instigated by Dette around New Year ... believe it or not!!

She bought some and left them lying about around the upstairs floor.

Yep and it just happened to be the group of people I was with who discovered them.I was not tempted to have a go though ;)

Rivetmike

Actually if we need to remind you, you did ( you were a little pissed so maybe that's your excuse)

The bad thing about this I really have no idea if you are joking 8O

One of the main reasons I started going to Slimelight was the belief that the crowd would be open-minded.

* They make you look uber "trendy", doing nothing for the alternative scene in general.

"Doing nothing for the alternative scene in general".... Could glowsticks really do anything either good or bad for a scene? And who really cares if they make you look trendy? I didn't think "the alternative scene" was supposed to focus so much on image.

She was a large girl and didn't have a clue, couldn't dance let alone play with a glow stick. It reminded me of the scene where Homer Simpson goes to the Doctor and the Doc does a fat test, Homer says "Watch that blubber fly".

There's no need for that.

I go out to have a good time, not to judge people by what they are wearing, their size, or whether they dance with glowsticks or not. :(

well said, mr spyder.

Its a shame that so many people are so narrow minded. it makes me sad :(

Ironically no-one representing the "anti-glo stick" front here is actually a goth ;) We just don't think they're suited to Slimelight.

Ok, well the glo stick fans want reasons why glo sticks are crap & (at Blinks request ;)) should be banned from Slimelight, so here they are;

Glow sticks. I dont particularly care for them. Neither do i dislike them. An "on the fence" issue for me as it were. But frankly i cant understand the disgust you show towards them. Glowsticks are just that...little glowing sticks. Am i missing something here? Are they supposed to feed a passionate emotion in me? I doubt it. They wave about, make some people look stupid, make others look like theyre enjoying themselves...and apparently, make you unreasonably angry. This, if anything is the most obscure effect of these glowsticks. And obviously the most extreme and innapropriate. Thus, if these sticks were somehow banned, i hope it would be for the correct reasons..Not that they can make people look a bit silly, but that some people are particularly intolerant of other peoples aesthetics and will discriminate accordingly.

I dont like 'em, in most cases they dont match with the atmosphere of the music, and you see everybody, waving/spinning just for the sake of it and it looks like as they try to kill a fly or something.

banning glowsticks is a stupid idea, why shouldnt people have fun with them? you dont like 'em, stay away from them. not many people take them anyway, if everyone had one and people kept getting wacked in the face by them, then that would be different wouldnt it.

I have seen hideously debilitating injuries caused by glowsticks. They ought to be outlawed in accordance with the protocols on Chemical & Biological weapons.
