Hi!
I just arrived here from Athens a month ago and discovered Slimelight two Saturdays ago. I'm from the USA. Planning on sticking around London for some time if I can just find a job. Wish me luck :wink:

You silly billy, the FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office) does extraterritorial applications, not the Home Office. If your application comes to my own section...you are in the shit as I work in Enforcement and Removals.

i'll be in cages most of the time, maybe with another young lady. that or finding a space to do poi. i'm told it looks good under UV light as my poi are designed for it. Besides, i have a high pain threshold. i'll be sure not to stick a knife into you though ;)

[Not sure when I will be back yet as I am waiting on my work permit and it takes forever :cry: I'm in San Antonio, Dallas is probably more exciting than here at least. I do Java programming and application server administration. I had some companies that were interested, but they have policies not to sponsor :?

i hope you get your permit soon. i don't know much about San Antonio so i can't pass judgement. that's a cool job to have! must pay well. why would you need a sponsor? i don't understand that concept.

watch that poi, i am not a friend of being hit by it! in fact i think its a hippy thing really and shoudl be done at hippie fetivals and venues....

Plus cowboys are almost as campy as real goths
I don't mind people with pois as long as they are not smacking me with them or looking like that funky clown guy that used to go to Slimes with the glo-poi :D

and poi is so not hippi! it's fsr from it. it started out as Maori weapon then went into a more tribal dance. now it's one of the best fire arts in the world! www.homeofpoi.com www.firetoys.com see for yourself.
i've only been doing it a year and 3 months. only a beginner really.
Kite, go for the permit yourself, it sounds the much better option in the long run!

BRR, I didn't check out those links your provided, but I think I know a little about the origin of the poi. They were used as pre-war ritual stuff to kind of scare away the enemies, right? Traditionally they were set on fire as well. I like all this tribal stuff. Going to finish up on LJ and read up ;)

you can still buy poi that you can set on fire and liquids to make the flame different colours. it's beautiful! it's a hell of a lot harder than it looks though. if you see me at slimes sometime doing it don't be scared to ask for a go. i'll teach you the basics. that is on the bouncers rules of only when there's a large space and not in the way of course. i don't have fire poi (yet), only the basic UV practice poi. i'm not very good considering how long i've done it.
if you ever get the chance to watch the COL (circles of light) DVDs it's well worth it. i've got one. on there it shows people doing poi, diablo, staff... and form of fire toy really! brilliant displays (though in COL5 one of the staff dudes drops it!!!)

I saw a firedancing troupe perform at a festival here a while back. Pretty impressive. Flaming chains, balls on chains, etc... I enjoyed, but got a but impatient because they were taking up the entire dance floor and I wanted to do some serious dancing :p
I'll be sure to say hi when I return, not sure if I'll take you up on the offer of learning how to poi as I have no skills, except with a katana :twisted:
