Just saw this movie last night and it has blown my mind away. If you liked the Matrix, Geerge Orwell's novel "1984", and the acting of Chrisitan Bale in "American Psycho", then don't stay in front of your computer all day... Go to your local movie theatre and enjoy "Equilibrium" FANTASTIC :D :D :D

Yeah, Equilibrium is one of greatest SF what I ever seen. I like Orwell's 1984 too...

the plot for the film was very good and the acting of Christopher Bale in it was amazing but the way Gun Fu was protrayed just seemed slightly tacky and doesnt really seem real when the rest of the film had that feeling

each to their own, I just thought the acting was bad and the story was shite, still not as bad as Star wars 2 Attack of the bungholes

I thought it was a bloody good film. Shades of 1984 without being a ripoff.
The idea of a dystopian future is hardly exclusive to Orwell but I think this is more derogative of other movies than literature. It seems to have the colour scheme of a Minority Report and the architecture of Metropolis with the design sensibilities of the original Matrix film...and, of course, the pseudo martial arts. It appears to have borrowed from (if not plagiarised) numerous sources and strung them together with an unfortunately fairly inconsequential story (which trips up when it attempts to be epic ie; the whole end sequence) but the strength of the original material and the austere mise-en-scene still make for an enjoyable cinematic experience.
In other words; It's a rip-off of Farenheit 451 et al with 'Gun-fu' and the Matrix costumes thrown in....but what the fuck, there's a couple of neat bits with guns and shit...and it's got swords in it too!!!

It's only Hollywood, after all.
I found it to be an enjoyable distraction...plus the bits where the do the Gunkata stuff was immensely funny; they look like cardboard cut-outs with cardboard arms spinning around. Tis funny!
