Wasn't too pleased at these to be honest.
I mean yeah some points might be valid but I reckon the person who wrote this ain't got all his facts right. Another example of ppl spouting their mouth off before even looking into something properly.
What do you make of it?

Sorry if I seemed so uptight...I realised it was kind of tongue in cheek but seemed a bit generalistic. Let's face it the ppl concerned are in the States where it could be a much more elitist scene than here in Europe. I find ppl don't mind what each other thinks to a style of electronic music whether it's powernoise/EBM/IDM/Indus-tech whatever...could be that there's something a bit more of a "I like it coz it makes me cool" thing going on in North America...which would be a real shame since it's generally very open and friendly. I don't see any ppl stating what's supposed to be cool and what should be listened to.

It's Episilon Minuses attempt to distance his music from the "gothic" scene and that's all it is.

Yeah I see that point. It's kinda sad that he's wrapped up in those issues though. I mean I work on music with the band and we don't mind who likes the music it's just about enjoying it.
I guess I'm a bit upset by it because I'm not a person who likes to cut themselves off from certain 'types' of people. I like a person based on them being friendly towards me regardless of image.
Whatever his ideas are he's got one problem...marketing!
He's probably cut off a huge percentage of his audience now so it's gonna bite him in the arse at the end of the day...hopefully!

I don't know about that really. As I understand things he is trying to appeal to the more trance/IDM orientated crowd which is a much bigger scene that the goth/EBM scene. He has the potential difficulty of being on a predominately EBM label to overcome though.
Let's be honest too,EM's music (not really my cup of tea) is a long way away from the scene he's deriding.
Even the singer of SOM once famously proclaimed that his band were not goth if he can do it then I'm sure a 100% electronic one man band from Canada can do it too (and make more sense ;))
Rivetmike
Hehe, that's funny...not sure when Power Noise was considered "goth" tho?! Meh.

That's the main reason I was kinda angry at the whole thing.
As I mentioned in the original post the guy was kinda been generalistic but also not getting the facts straight. I don't remember powernoise being a 'Goth' label thing either...I think this epsilon person is lost.
Anyway I'm not gonna keep going on about it I feel like I'm just becoming a whiner so sorry everyone. BTW I just wanna say that although this guy slags off a lot of things 'wrong' with 'the scene' I myself have been fascinated by the way people really get creative ever since moving to London. Let's face it where I was from it was so boring. The most creative anyone got in the alt scene was a hoody, make-up and hair dye. I've always loved the idea of being creative but it was never really accepted back home I just got my ass kicked for being 'weird' or whatever they came up with. Nice that it's more interesting in the capital and a lot more open minded :)
I've had no bad experiences at any club especially slime...probably the friendliest crowd I've been around actually.

Yeah Rivet your comment makes a lot of sense about the slight Trance/IDM angle. All I'm gonna say is that he can slag off whatever scene it is he's targetting cos at the end of the day it's not gonna change anything just I won't be buying any of his stuff if he wants to be concerned by trends n fashions rather than what's true n by that I mean the music and being happy that others enjoy it no matter who they are (like most genuine music artists out there).
Oh yeah and I did notice his collaboration with Stromkern's vocalist too. I was kinda surprised that he's done that if he's trying to move away from that kinda EBM scene.

Never ceases to fascinate me, how seriously some people will take a remixed Jack Chick tracts about goths. It's a joke, man. The fact that goths go all stoney-faced and nitpick over the accuracy of the references is just more incentive for mockery. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's always someone else ready to do it for you. Need to face the fact that goth = hilarious.

Yeah okay if it's a joke fair enough. Just that it was a bit confusing since I wouldn't say I'm any way in the Goth catagory or fit the cliches surrounding that kind of label...you know the pale face, depressed kind of stereotype but the powernoise references were in there too with the goggles thing. I don't connect Goth with powernoise or goggles it was so mixed up :?
I take it that was the point...to be really mixed up and confused?
I was just angry at first reading it seeing how generalistic it seemed you were being. I enjoy the music and am fascinated by the fashion ideas people come up with. After all music is an art form and so is fashoion...tey both go hand in hand rather well and I'm cool with that. I love the fact there's some variety rather than it being like a very sheep-like crowd. Yeah there are certain styles but I've seen a lot of personal touches of creativity :)
Glad you've cleared it up that it was harmless and there's no sour grapes.
You gotta understand I come from a very narrow minded town and I've had a lot of crap about the way I express myself it just gets to me a bit more than others because I've not had people around me who understand that I like being creative.

I have to agree with this..... I come from a very small minded town too HybridiuM_vocalist, and I moved to the city to get away from all that. But at the end of the day, you do have to be able to laugh at yourself sometimes. If I got offended every time someone took the piss it'd just get silly. Of course there is a point where it doesn't become funny anymore, but that's dependent on personal opinion.
Personally, I think it's really funny, but that's just my sense of humour

I usually pick up on irony, jokes n sarcasm pretty well but there's some peoples' tastes/styles that I don't pick up on. This is one of those cases. I see now what it's all about and see the funny side.
A classic case of not seeing the funny side of it. Perfect example of ironic humour and how some people find it funny and others just hate it and find it irritating or nasty:
The Office...mym dad can't stand it yet me, my gf, bandmates and most friends love it.
It's the same with Alan Partridge...my flatmate just doesn't connect with Coogan's subtle style of humour.
Don't worry I don't have a humour bypass!
Still I think it's a bit risky in terms of building a strong, wide, fan base as I don't seem to be the only one who's misinterpreted the whole thing. I was chatting to Miss Anthropy of Emergence earlier and she was on about how much attention he gets for the wrong reasons. I had to agree with her on the SimRonan flash movie though...it was really funny!
Check that one out if you get the chance!

I don't sit around thinking about how I'm going to "build my fanbase" all day. I don't connect screwing around on the internet with making music, and while I'm sure lots of people connect everything I do, it doesn't make any difference to me. If someone decides to boycott me as a musician because they're offended by a joke I made, then so be it, I'm not going to lose any sleep.

Sure that's a fair point like you said it's all just a joke and has been obviously misunderstood. I don't have any beef with you over this whole thing I get it now.
Yeah I said I was angry but it's cool now. Like I said I got so much abuse literally every day back home and it got to the point I couldn't even walk around the streets near where I lived. What you were saying just seemed like another mindless attack and it got to me a bit. I just can't stand the way things are when I go back home to visit my parents and I'm afraid to go anywhere because of the threats and physical abuse I get for not being part of the "mainstream". When I saw the page it just brought back all those past memories so I naturally got hot under the collar and yeah I feel kinda dumb now.
For the record I appologise for this all getting out of hand on here...my bad.

You obviously don't know just how irritating it is to live up North and get constant abuse...I said I'm sorry for getting so uptight about it can't we leave it at that?
I'm obviously more sensitive to issues than you are and I know for a fact I'm not the only one to misinterpret the cartoon.
I judged it differently and made a mistake that's all.
SORRY!

That was a really weird sketch!
Kinda cool
It's from Johnny The Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez. It's an excellent series with a lot of really dark humour...there are also some amusing references to the goth scene in there too (was hoping I could find one for here, but no such luck)

Anyone who lives outside of what is considered the mainstream, whether it is music, lifestyle and/or dress, they will have experienced some form of abuse.

My friend back home liked Stabbing Westward when I was at college lol...must have been just before their 'big break' came. I remember hearing some but wasn't so keen.
Speaking of NIN another friend of mine who's got into the EBM style music back home keeps going on about the RIB covers of NIN. Having grown a bit bored of NIN I'm not so bothered about getting a CD but are the RIB versions actually any good?
We can all connect with the comical side of those 'Johnny' stories I'm sure. The classic case of kids with issues that have angst against their parents and resort to attention seeking with cuts n saying they tried to kill themselves etc.

On all those Cleopatra released tribute albums RIB are normally the only band who do a decent cover (save for KMFDMs cover of Madonna Material Girl of course ;))

I'm fond of RIB myself but haven't touched on any of the NIN covers. As I said it's mainly because my liking for NIN has dwindled a bit over the years mostly because I hear the same songs played so many times at clubs I've grown tired of most of the material.
If the NIN tribute stuff is good enough (which it sounds very much like since that's three people now who've said positive things) and it's also got personal touches that make it different from the original then I will look into it :)
Must say RIB sure have been busy with the old tributes I wish I had the money to afford it all as well as the other stuff on my list at the moment!
