I'll probably die due to some bizzarre accident at home, like electrocuting myself on my playstation 15 at the age of 75.

Either way, my epitaph will say that i died trying to save to babies from the clutches of a wild bear....

I was born in Australia, and came to London at about the age of five. I grew up in East London (Woodford/Ilford) and Cornwall, then moved back to London for my mid to late teens. I moved out to the wilds of Essex (Maldon/Chelmsford) for far too long, and now I'm living in Central London, a stone's-throw from Slimelight.

Born & raised in Romford, Essex. Moved to Stoke Newington a few years back, but it was a short lived thang as the flat I was in was determined to kill me! (not sure what it was exactly, but something there made it very hard for me to breathe and so was forced to move out!)

Am back in Romford again now.

Born in Helsinki, Finland. Lived also in a few other places in Finland before coming over to London in last September. If anyhow possible to avoid, won't be going back to live in Finland, but I might end up moving somewhere else from London if I ever get bored of it, but that's prolly years away from now.

Actually it’s the people that you so eloquently call “scene whores” that make London the greatest city in the world (you would be surprised how many of the worlds major cities I have visited.) I would disrespectfully suggest that if you are tired of the varied nightlife and interesting people, which/who can be found all over this city (if only you are willing to take the time to look) and you have the audacity and downright narrow mindedness to label anyone who enjoys living in the capital (including myself) as nonce’s, pigs or wannabee's we are all better off if provincial hicks like you don’t live in London.
P.S. BIG CIGARS eh…. What are you compensating for??????????

First sorry about the font size I got a bit carried away.
DerOberst, what makes you so special that you can say you know everything there is to know about London and every other major city in the world (other than being a senior member on this site that is.)
Moscow is a very interesting city I agree as is Amsterdam but for variety and complexity of culture London “shits” on anything and everything else I have ever experienced.
Now I am not saying that I have seen “Virtually every Major city on this planet” I am not an omnipotent god like Senior Member DerOberst all I am saying is within my obviously inadequate human experience I have never been to a more amazing complex lively and friendly city.
Once again sorry about the font wont happen again.

I'm not special at all far from it!!!If you read my post I was tearing at the bad
aspects of life in london!!Yep its a very diverse city and I have met some real characters there!!Why do you think I moved there in the first place!!!!
When I lived in epsom the height of my weekend would be the club life and to trawl areas of notting hill gate etc!I loved it so much I moved to tavistock square next door to the old jewish museum!!Unfortunately I also met some real lowlife vermin who's sole aim was to either take advantage or be with people they could be seen with!!!And why do you think I dont live In the smoke ITS TOO BLOODY EXPENSIVE!!!!!Not because I hate everybody there

I think DerOberst is very right in what he says, whether we like it or not.

And I do not think London is a friendly City at all. Apart from the fact that people help you carry your luggage up the stairs in the underground.

It is just a big City and as such, diverse and you will certainly find the characters DerOberst defines.

DerOberst is a Senior Member on this forum cos he has posted a certain amount of posts. And he is an extremely pleasant person to talk to(Yes, sometimes I do the normal talk at Slime with people from Slimelight) and also very interesting.

I would listen to his opinion any time because even if I may not agree, it is interesting and certainly valuable.

I pretty much have to agree with DerOberst on this.

London is certainly an amazing place, whenever I travel there for Slimelight or work or whatever, I always try to see as much of it's life as possible. However, there are insular people who refuse to travel beyond its borders for fear that everywhere else is dull by comparison.

This self-righteousness is so laughable from a sensible distance. Just to quote a sad little man I used to consider a friend "What do you do, just mope around in Milton Keynes...". He thought he was more interesting just because he lives in Central London.

I digress... I lived pretty central for 6 years. I loved it, London is my spiritual home (although I'm not particularly well-travelled) but while the weekends can be amazing, the monday to friday can be a little tougher. Crowds and crowds of strangers can be intimidating... I'll never be able to communicate exactly why I got freaked out and knew I had to leave. But despite considering myself pretty level-headed (I regularly walked across whitechapel at night, and never even found a reason to be scared.) the pace of life of a big city is not good for everyone.

All the whores, nonces etc survive pretty much everywhere, due to their inability to give a damn. If anyone stays in London for more than a few years and keeps their sense of humour and some moral fibre, then good luck to you.

“Probably move away again!! But not London as the place is full of nonces, pigs, wannabee's and scene whores!!!!”

Surely there might be more interesting places than London about, but I've yet to see one.

On the other hand, how can you really appreciate the conveniences and richness of the place, if you don't occasionally stride into the "Here and There Be Dragons" regions outside it? :D

hmm... i was born in a scuzzy-looking hospital in orsett village, sahf essex in 1980 & lived in nearby grays thurrock for the next 12 years before moving to liverpool, where both my parents are from.

i bounced between liverpool & manchester throughout the 90s on my lonesome (i was independent from a very young age, & manchester had a better goth scene at that point), then moved to chester for 6 months, back to liverpool & then buggered of to california for work purposes for a short while before moving down to london in '03.

six months or so after that i buggered off to live in berlin, then sloped back to london in late '04 & i've been living in a shoebox just off camden high street ever since.:)

Born in Nottingham, where I lived for 20 years, then Wolverhampton for 3 (I know, I know, it's not my fault, I was a student) then London for 19 with a brief sojourn to Dublin in the late nineties. I'd prefer to go live in the Lake District but there's a bit of a dirth of alternative clubs up there currently it appears.

But good for the lake scene...

Or so they say... in the ghetto.

hmm... i was born in a scuzzy-looking hospital in orsett village, sahf essex in 1980 & lived in nearby grays thurrock for the next 12 years before moving to liverpool, where both my parents are from.

Gotta love Essex eh? ;) From what I gather reading this thread there are a fair few of us Essex bods here. Looks like it might be US who's taking over then? :p

I'm gonna be seeing a lot more of Essex in my new job...I'm providing technical support for Essex's Fire Brigade. This means I'm gonna be travelling all over the place! Still, at least the scenery is nice ;)
