Yeah since no one else bothers to create threads I've had to start tying up loose ends and start this mother licker rolling again!

It is rather sad, considering how busy this forum was about 2 - 3 years ago...

Ah yes, the dreaded blog-machines.
I swore by my ability to avoid such timewasting, but since I know a few distant folk, it's a good way to make oneself public. Definitely necessary evils of the age. But such an easy way to waste away youth and life.
In the defence of LJ, I've been able to chat to Slimelighters on the strength of something they've put on LJ. So, if it ends up making me more sociable, no mean feat by any means, then it has to be a good thing.
Or does blogging actually turn us into hermits, unable to reach out with more than a *hugs* to those we wish we could touch..?

I love that quote...it's like the introduction to an episode of Jerry Springer! ;)
I have to admit I was of the same mind in that I tried to avoid the whole blog thang...but alas, I started posting (originally just to advertise a gig night SP & I were putting on) and there ya go.
Still it's a good way to stay in touch with friends and there are some fairly decent groups out there that are worth joining (i.e the slavelabor one so you can find out about all their new comics & products :D)

I do neither and not planning to start doing them either. Forums and instant messaging progs are what you really need.

Not if you want to be a flash Harry and show the world a little of your flare and let your niggaz know a bit about you that thay may not already.
Obviously your close mates know your shit but your shapes and faces that you only see in clubs or at gigs dont know anything about you other then what you've shouted over loud music when drunk and mashed up.
I've found out a lot about my shapes and faces from MySpace and LJ and they often help fuel conversations I find.
BUT LIKE WOTEVA TREVOR!!

I like LJ - it's a great way of keeping in touch, getting to know people better, and arranging to do stuff. I really don't like MySpace though...I think the look and feel of it (and the way it's used) put me off.

I vowed never, ever to get a lj, I thought it was a waste of time and didn't really want to put my life and thoughts where other people could read them (who would really be interested!). I finally caved in when I moved out of London, I got a lj so that I could keep in touch with all my friends and find out what was going on incase I wanted to come and visit! I don't post that much, I just read other peoples.

I used to think that, and a lot of people say the same, but it turns out not to be like that really, doesn't it? You don't have to post at all, if you don't want to..you can just read others' journals and comment on them. If you do post, you can restrict who can see it to only a select few (or just yourself, for diary-purposes).
LOL I sound like I'm trying to sell LJ accounts!

Really? I recall several threads on the old site that you quite willingly posted twaddle alone with me...a Monty Python lines thread instantly springs to mind... ;)
Besides, no one can hold a candle to Secrets and Lemontwist and their little love chats that used to highjack almost each and every thread.

depends really i think
if people think the word "hug" makes up for everything and means they have helped a friend in need thejn its a bad thing. being a communication junkie myself means that i keep in touch with people i care for or those i dont hold in such high esteem.
i think if a person wants to be superficial then they will be, online or not, there are always people who think saying "oh thats bad" was all they need to do but somebody who is more caring will emerge out of the online medium and be a friend in reality too.
its totally up to everyone what they make out of this.

Seriously, some very good points. I think blogs help people who aren't dripping with self-confidence to air their views when they normally wouldn't and is often a stepping stone to actually getting out there and making real life friends. I wouldn't know a whole mass of people if it weren't for this forum or LJ...I didn't have the confidence to talk to people, I am still quite shy still.

Monty Python isn't twaddle! ... but you're right about Secrets & Lemontwist.
