Ok this is it - the statement.

Fed up with the slaggings and bitchings I've just read.

I have been a promoter for over 14 years in London, Ibiza and the US and have no personal problem with Slimelight.
However I am pretty sick of the aggressive and obvious tactics thrown at us in the last weeks.
If people want to call me annoying and read my LJ and slag me off, go ahead. It doesn't touch the sides.

Antilight is called Antilight because it was the name of my company anyway, and that's it. NO OTHER REASON - and it fits with the no glosticks policy (BTW glosticks is spelt like that because that's the trade name)
If you think we will fail, fine, go to Slimelight, which is now a noise ebm club that has a goth floor once a month. The overwhelming majority of true goths wanted a new club without that and that's what we have done.

We have hundreds of people coming along on Saturday from all over Europe in fact, the majority of which never even go to Slimelight so there is no problem. If Slimelight want to employ tacky "bargain sales" techniques that's their problem. We all know that if they really did get £8500 they would have used the money for renovation or hiring a really great band.
We will be doing a club monthly which is already paid for and bands booked for the next forseeable future, so there is no war to be had.

We will never clash with true goth events at slimes as it is not our objective to ruin slimes at all.

And considering I am employed by a cable channel as their music producer, have been djing for 12 years and manage international ebm and metal acts, sorry I do know my music and I was probably running clubs when most of you were in nappies.I'm no new kid on the block.

So find me annoying if you want, but get your facts straight.

And yes, I think most people are planning on getting their free memberships and then heading to Antilight, so that's that.

Just enjoy your night and stop making it into a playground war.

And I can say what I want on my LJ, OK?

Happy sliming my little padawans.

And PS BEER IS £3 to £3.10 AT KOKO AND SHOTS ARE £1 FOR ANTILIGHT'S NIGHTS SO STOP SAYING OTHER RUBBISH OK?

PPS I'm too busy to read any posts now but I've given you something to gossip about

Lots of proper old school goth industrial love

Because it is making a statement, and because they are entitled to.

Because it is making a statement, and because they are entitled to.

They are entitled to spam up the forums with a quite frankly boring rant? Bloody freedom of speech.

Mmmmhh...

Catasha, you do not seem to be familiar with the membership renewal procedures in Slimelight.

You can only do it late at night, right? Something like after 3 AM?

I'll need to find this out myself too, having never needed to do it before. :D

actually when I renewed my membership a few months ago the guy just said at the beginning of the night that I can get the renewed card back when I come next time. I was suprised that the after-3am-rule didn't apply.

Fire Fire la la la

We have every reason to doubt your musical credentials. You DJ’d at Black Mass: That’s like being a shitstain in a bucket of piss.

So don’t expect to come on here and not get mocked. We mock complete strangers for no reason, so you certainly shouldn’t expect any better treatment. And in any case, you got off lightly, considering it’s the Slimelight website and all that… So, come on, bring on more ‘musical credentials’, so I can shoot them down too… I have years of festering bile in storage.

In any case, I went, not out of choice, to AntiLight, so I can give my Kylon review…

Koko is pretty swish inside, if you haven’t been, but it was a little too bright for my taste – then again, so was the Ballroom. Numbers were pretty good considering. I estimated about 400 in the place at 1.00am, over my prediction of 300, and apparently the total door footfall was 500 + guestlist. Not bad at all. The crowd was older than Slimes, with under 25s in the minority I suspect. Numbers began to fall after 2.30 quite significantly (my housemate went off to Slimes) and when we left at 3.30ish, it was looking very dead.

The music was to my mind pretty dire, albeit what I expected, so I really didn’t pay much attention to it – to be fair the DJs aren’t playing to me anyway. Lots of ‘classic’ goth if I recall, but given some people probably regard Star Industry as ‘classic’ nowadays, that doesn’t speak much. Of industrial, Chris Damage’s set was only half an hour, IIRC had 2 Ministry and NIN tracks in it, and was the only industrial played. No Skinny Puppy, no FLA… oh well. The night’s claim to have much industrial is pretty tenuous, but some was there.

Drinks were expensive and the prices quoted by Catasha are inaccurate. Double Vodka was £5.80. Cans of Lager £3.30. Bottle of V (Smirnoff ripoff) was £2.50, the best buy I think, but had the drawback of tasting like crap. If there were any better deals, no-one was telling…

From the people I talked too, no-one expressed any particular intention to go again, and some certainly won’t be, but, again, that may just be the circles I move in, For people who like old-school goth and suchlike, it is probably a good, albeit costly, night out, but I suspect numbers will probably be down rather than up next time.

There's this saying about people living in glass houses... you can't really complain about crap coming your way if you're perfectly willing to send it Slimelight's way. You can't cry about all the flak Antilight is taking then come here to Slimelight's forum, criticise how it's run, call the promoters liars and patronise the punters that go and enjoy Slimelight.

Just enjoy your night and stop making it into a playground war.

Maybe you should listen to your own advise? If you had simplay promoted Antilight as a goth industrial night and stayed away from the politics then it might have been a very different story. You should also realise that, although you are perfectly entitled to post anything you like on your own LJ, people are going to read your public posts. The assumption is that you made your posts public because you wanted them to be seen by the public, hence there's no real point in complaining that people read those posts.

Perfectly.

For me, reading that LJ made all the difference. And a few people who actually went to Antilight and then were at Slimelight by 1 am(yeah, I made for that time) agreed with me that this LJ declarations going against Slimelight from the beginning has ruined a lot of what they think of Antilight, which they found ok, but not outstanding.

It is definetely not ideal to make declarations against your competitors(specially if they have been there for a long time) and then expect that they will not do anything to save their business.

I think that antilight has caused a lot of problems that could have been avoided. We need more places to go and the london/uk scene is pretty limited, why they couldnt have put their energy into a friday night when there is nothing else on is beyond me [maybe Im wrong but arent there at least two fridays a month when theres nothing on] its great and rare to see people actually doing something for a change but this is not progress.statements promoting antilight like;
"Comrades, it is my pleasure to announce that Kunsthaus Promotions have signed a mutual non-aggression pact with The Goths. They are not our natural enemies and now, shoulder to shoulder with our new allies, we shall annihilate the glowstick wielding cybermensh and (at some point in the future) carve up Poland." [Mon, Mar. 20th, 2006, 09:38 am]
are not going to reassure slimelight that this project is a harmless venture aimed at a different crowd. Only a month ago someone on the slime forum was asking why dont slimelight put live stuff on on stj nights [which may mess with their night] slimes seemed to be quite happy working with other club nights on. I saw the slime video truck outside the last torture garden advertising the new TG video ,the guys from slimelight with it said they were not getting paid but were doing it for a laugh , Im pretty sure about 30/40 % of slimers have been/may go to TG but theres no friction there, its every month on saturdays.nb they were advertising Infest too on the video screen that on saturdays too

Antilight... does the madness and daring of these guys ever stop! :P Setting out to be annoying or funny with their promotions, a joke worn thin or a gimmick, hard to say?
Saw Koko’s during electrofest and it seems like an odd place to have a club… everyone on the dance floor would be on display for the three levels. Still I like Damage’s sets mostly and do drift toward old tracks sometimes...
