Different genres, kinda like comparing Sisters of Mercy to Combichrist.

I like them both, can't really say which one is better. Depends on what I'd like to see.

Mmmm ... it's a tough choice ... I loved the original three Star Wars films, then the next two were a bit weaker, but still good. The last one I really liked ... very dark for Star Wars.

However, it's gotta be LOTR ... read it as a kid and I have to say that they did a fine job of putting it on the big screen. I'll even excuse them leaving out Tom Bombadill.

Vin Diesel was contracted to play that part, but he took one look at the script and realised it was piss-shit compared to the Chronicles of Riddick. So he tore that contract up and stuffed it down Jackson's throat.

Naturally, no-one argued with him. They had, afterall, seen the Chronicles of Riddick on the big screen.

hahaha!Did you know it was originally vin diesel who spoke the killing word in dune.It was so powerful it not only killed the original actors and crew, all the audiences heads blew apart simultaneously when it was pre screened for approval for a certificate!!!

Vin Diesel not only spoke the killing word in Dune, but Vind Diesel was the killing word in Dune.

This is where the Prodigy got their 'Diesel Power' song from. They couldn't give it the full name, else every single one of their fans would immediately die from getting the worlds biggest hard-on, draining all blood from their brains. Even women.

LOTR of course :D never understood why Star Wars is so big, I never finished watching the first Movie as I always fall asleep, and the new ones are just absolutely horrible.

I read LOTR about 10 years ago the first time, and I just loved it - and I was surprised the movies were actually very well made, though important parts of the book are missing.

I can say as well, I will never understand why people listen to trad. goth, but hey, tastes are different...
same with LotR/SW.
some like to live in the (fictional) past, some in the (fictional) future.

Errm.... My money is on Star Wars. Got most the the Jedi outfit (lightsaber :drools:, cloak) and full on Stormtrooper armour (Imperials rule, rebs suck my blaster bolts), though LOTR also rocks. Read the trilligy twice, seen all the films at least twice and read The Hobbit and Silmarillion.

Then again, its a bad idea to compare the two as they are completly different genres and comparing them is like compairing Motzart to Rammstein.

Ignoring Episode 1 and parts of 2, Star Wars is better. I did love the Ents though.

LOTR = Literary classic that spawned hundreds of imitators, impressive film trilogy

Star Wars 4-6 = Cheesy but enjoyable space opera with more plot holes than an episode of Jerry Springer

Star Wars 1-2 = cringingly awful

This shouldn't even be up for debate

Only my opinion of course

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... are survey says...

There are far more attractive people in Lord of the Rings...... HOWEVER.

Princess leia in the gold Bikini...... is just that.

Hang on, are we talking about the quality of the film and story line?

If thats the case Lord of the Rings is a timeless classic..... and as the book pre-dates the StarWars Trilogy (and the budget was HUUUUUUUUUG-big in L.O.T.R in comparison and everyone knows you need a big budget for a good film mmmmmhmmmmmm...... <=======And you can do that with the actual title as well, i mean starwars, SW, dont work LOTR, its the Free-range chicken!!)

....but truthly i dont care.

bye

Yay, the duck is back!

Welcome back MrD...the place was less amusing without you.

On topic, I don't think you can compare the film series. Star Wars is essentially a series of action flicks. LOTR, while it has its action sequences, is much deeper, more emotional, and panoramic (not just visually).

I like them both, a lot, but in different ways.
YMMV.

if you can make a mocha out of them they would be even better...... mmmmmm

anyway, i love both films, have never felt the urge to compare the two, each have there own good points and bad, theres nothing like a bit of 70/80`s sci-fi to warm the cockles.......

i forget did Lucu$ finally get around to finishing $tar war$ in the end? I did watch a few films recently, but rubbish they were, there were no silly floopy-woopy haircuts and the special effects were actually shot in a studio and not with a pool table in a parking lot with loads of sticklebricks impersonating Death-star biscuits, sorry buildings.......

anyway, gotta fly, fly, fly my prettys, fly...... and dive, and swooshhhhhhhhhhh.

You're just critical because Star Wars didn't star Teh Shatner ;)

Yes, all six episodes of Star Wars are out there...

The Phantom Dennis
Attack of the Clowns
Revenge of the Shish

and those original Lego-based ones...
