I'll be visiting London later this month for the annual visit, but it seems that I'll be able to make it out to Slimes at least one night this year. Does anyone have any big suggestions? Any house-drinks I should try at the bar? Anyone I should avoid? Dangerous areas around the club, etc? It'll be a little weird walking around late at night and not able to carry my 9mm. Damn British laws....

Also, I'll be heading into Slimes from the South Kensington area- what's the best way to get there? Bus or tube? Which lines?

Those are the strangest questions I have ever read on this web about the club... No dangers in Slime. Probably it is the safest place in London. Or at least it has been for me in the past 10 years...

Also the weird thing is to have to carry a 9mm around to feel safe...

Where do you come from?? Let me think... USA?????????

I'm from North Texas. In the parts of town where the clubs are around here, there are often large, dark areas between the parking lots and the clubs where people get mugged occasionally. I didn't figure it was the same in London, but it never hurts to ask. Things tend to be a little closer together in London, and there aren't many dark parking lots to worry about. You won't quite understand unless you visit the area yourself.

I don't have to carry it around to feel safe, but it's nice to have. I haven't ever had to use it, and hopefully never will, but I'd rather be the one holding the gun if the situation comes to it. Just a different culture and a completely different area of the world.

Aaahh!! Dear Zomborg...

I do understand very well even though I have never been in the USA and do not particularly intend to go as many other places in the world interest me more at the present time but I have travelled my bit and I do keep informed about how things are in certain countries...

How do you explain I knew where you where coming from...?

Now, London, the UK, Europe might be much safer than USA, but there are areas of London where not even a gun would be of use for you.

Coming back to Slimelight, I hope that when you'll go, you'll enjoy yourself and taste the real FREEDOM without being scared of who is next to you. You'll see how pleasurable it is and also, you'll have the music, the rest, as I always say, it completely accessory!!

Enjoy it!!

hackney?
Brixton?
Finsbury Park?

or where?
bet certain places overcrowded with, errr, "guests"

I know how weird it is, walking around with a 9mm, and suddenly you can't anymore ^^

very annoying :( (though mine were gas only, due to German law... )

anyway, SL seems to be pretty safe :)
buses and stuff are directly around the corner, the only dark places there will be Slimelight itself ^^

Look, we don't do guns here in Europe. And we don't want them. Simple as that.

So this is one thing, you are encouraged not to worry about.

Enjoy your visit to Europe - without guns.
And then tell everyone at home that Europe is nice place - without guns.

Please don't take this personal, but I can get really worked up about this subject. And I can't find my medicine....

Common sense keeps everyone out of trouble here. Use yours, and you'll have a great time on your vacation.

To be safe (anywhere) you have to avoid the three stupids

Don't go to stupid places, with stupid people & do stupid things.
Bringing a weapon, any weapon, into a confrontation will only escalate the problem. The guy who just wanted to black your eye & feel macho now is frightened & faced with fighting for his life. He's going to become even more violent.

It's much better & safer to learn (& practice) situational awareness & verbal de-escaltion skills.

Slimes is a pretty safe place to party, at least I've never seen any trouble there.

I'm glad I'm not american...I wouldn't like to read those apostolic posts about guns.

Time to accept other cultures?

Not only in the USA has a gun culture...
Where I come you need the right to protect yourself..
Here in England everybody lives so close together that if it had a gun culture there will be a war by now..

I like this thread. As we can see, Vin Diesel lives, eats and breathes gun culture, and everyone in Slimelight should follow his lead.

...and now a random fact about Vin Diesel:

Vin Diesel shot Bambi's mother.
